If you didn't get the first demo yet, now there is no need to. Demo 2 fixes up some things from Demo 1, and features a brand new level. The new level is Ice Man's stage. It is now an abandoned stage that is polluted. The ground is muddy and slippery, the walls are moldy, the water is dirty, the sky is a dark gray color, and the clouds are red. Other than that I won't say more! Please report any bugs you find, but the bugs that you will find I most likely know about. If you die and you made it to at least the checkpoint, the enemies will be all over the place until you get to a different screen. There is also a bug at the end. I will worry about fixing the bugs before the final release, but right now there isn't much I can do about them.

You may have seen these already, but they show off a little bit of the now-abandoned pollution stage.

Please read the readme. Thats why its called a readme.

And heres a tip for you: You should beat Cut Man's stage first.

I hope you enjoy the demo, and as always, feedback is appreciated. Have fun!

Is anyone here a fan of the never-released version of Resident Evil 2? A quick summary for those who don't know what Resident Evil 1.5 is:

Capcom made Resident Evil 2, and at about 80% complete, they decided to scrap the game and start over from scratch. The scrapped version became known as Resident Evil 1.5. From seeing all the screenshots and videos of Resident Evil 1.5, all the fans of it view it to actually be better than the Resident Evil 2 of today. It had things that Resident Evil 2 didn't have, such as spiders crawling through vents, zombies that could crawl up the ledges, a lot more blood, and different areas. There could be many zombies in one room, and zombies came in different types. For more info on Resident Evil 1.5, you should visit http://www.bioflames.com. Its a great site. It has lots of screenshots, and actual video footage of the game. I am a registered member on the forum by the way.

Anyway, I wanted to know if anyone here who is a fan of 1.5, can go along with me through the Resident Evil 2 Demo that came with RE: Director's Cut, and see if we can find anything that was in 1.5. Some people have said that there may be material in it from 1.5. You're going to need a GameShark though, and you're going to have to be a good GameShark hacker, so you can bypass areas in the demo. I actually used the GameShark code to get the "L Key" so I could access an area you are not supposed to access in the demo. The room is from the Resident Evil 2 we know, but there may be more. The game locks up if you try to bypass that room. This can be a lot of fun.

I'll see what I can do about the blood. Parasyte helped me out a little by giving me the bytes to get rid of the score. In other words, no more annoying score on the top! I honestly don't see the point to the score in that game anyway. Unless there was a hall of fame at the end of the game or something, fine. But there is no point to earning the points. What are they for?

I'm also going to attempt an ASM hack that allows Megaman to charge his Megabuster in this game. I hope I can pull it off.

A bonus to what? All they are, are numbers. Whether you get a high score or not, the outcome is the same. You go through the level, beat the boss, get his weapon, and move on. Its not like you get a special weapon or have your name in a hall of fame for getting a high score. Even though those would make great ASM hacks.

My hack is no longer called Mega Man 9. I felt that the number 9 was pushing it. I ported the levels from my hack over to a brand new ROM. I didn't make major changes to the enemy data because doing so results in a lot of bad glitches. But I did do some changes. I also removed the "blood" aspect for now. If I add it back again, it will be as everyone suggested, with graphics changes to make it look more realistic. All the previous screenshots and demos are no longer availabe. Since it is no longer called Mega Man 9 and all 3 levels I made have been completely redone, you could say that Mega Man 9 was scrapped. I am going to release one more demo, and it will be the official Mega Man Nightmare Demo. Expect the release soon.

Here are some new screenshots:

The beginning of Cut Man's stage.

Mega Man is going to easily avoid that Cut Blade.

He is going to have to get through these eye creatures.

Mega Man has to get through him to move on.

The underground cavern gets even deeper.

Welcome to Fire Man's domain!

This area is on fire.

Because of the release of the Mega Man Anniversary Collection, I decided to release a WIP (Work-in-progress) version of Mega Man Nightmare.

The three edited levels as most of you know are Cut Man, Ice Man, and Fire Man. Fire Man is not complete, but is worth checking out.

For those who don't know this is a hack of the first Megaman. To download right click on the link and select Save Target As.

Last night I thought about finally editing the graphics. The graphics in this level are made by me, so they are original. The only borrowed graphics are the flames.

The beginning of Fire Man's stage.

Mega Man can no longer go through the structures. They aren't apart of the background anymore. They're solid.

This area is on fire.

You can see the flames through the fence.

These flames are more lethal.

The flame enemies surprise Mega Man.

This place is dangerous!

An oil pool.

Oil and fire are a lethal combination......

The heat is on!

What some people don't understand is that I can take criticism, but you don't have to be rude about it. You could have said the oil pool isn't that great, and needs work on it, instead of saying it "-sucks-". How is that constructive criticism? That helps the hack in no way. How about being polite about it and offering advice? What can I do to make it better? I'm sure you wouldn't appreciate it if I posted something like that about your hack. In fact, there hasn't been one time when I said something like that to anyone's hack. And this doesn't just go for you either, I think everyone should go by this.

I just wanted to say that you did a great job! And I'm saying this by not even playing the hack yet, because I saw your other thread, and I can tell that you put a lot of work into this hack. Those screenshots in the other thread were great, and this is probably the best MM4 hack to date. I don't think there has been a complete MM4 hack before. When I have the time, I will try your hack out. Good work Schwa!

Your hack looks good Frank. I have yet to try it. When I have the time I will try your hack also. I like how you made use of things that weren't used a lot in the original game. I know the quicksand wasn't used a lot, and the waterfall wasn't either. Good work!

Posted on 08-08-04 01:12 PM, in My SMB3 Hack Link
I have been working on a SMB3 hack also. It doesn't have a title or a story yet, but hopefully I'll have them soon. This hack is still in its early stages.

So far I have implemented 4 ASM hacks that change the gameplay around, and the first level is nearing completion. I plan on doing graphics much later on.

First up, the player now has Infinite Lives. If you die, you can keep trying and trying, and you'll never get a Game Over and have to start the world over.

This is the new beginning of 1-1.

Just like what Jaspile did in his hack, the Boom-Booms are now minibosses. Once you defeat them you can continue on in the level.

They drop a fire flower now.

The other ASM hacks that I did, screenshots can't really show.

The star no longer makes you invincible. It makes you invisible. You can still see Mario. He's transparent (he doesn't show up in the screenshots though for some reason). Its like when Mario gets hit by an enemy. The only difference is that you can get it from a star and it lasts longer, so its like a whole new temporary power up.

In order to beat the levels now, you have to step on the P-Switch. That means you have to find it somewhere in the level. I know it sounds similar to what you do in the Red Coin Quest, but I wasn't trying to copy the idea. Originally, I made it so that the P-Switch gave you the Kuribo's shoe. But this was just a practice ASM hack, and I wanted the P-Switch to serve a better use. I felt it was a waste to have it give you a kuribo shoe, when you could get it from a Goomba or from something like an item block. I didn't know what else could I use the P-Switch for, but I had the data so why not make it end the level?

KP9000 thought of a great idea. Since I'm not using the P-Switch to give you Kuribo's shoe, and lives aren't a factor anymore, why not make the 1-Ups the Kuribo's shoes instead? I have yet to implement this hack, but it will be done.

Here's a few more screenshots of the first level. These area designs are official. But the graphics still have to be changed. The screenshots I posted at TEK are now outdated badly.

The first level is 90% complete.

Sorry about that then. I'm sure the hack is good though. I just rarely have any extra free time because of my job. I try to work on my own hack when I have the chance. When I have a lot more free time I will give it a try.

I watched the video showing off Stone Mario. What a great idea that was! Jaspile, can you show a video of the Boom-Boom mid-stage boss also? I figured out how to do that hack, but you probably did it better. Basically when I did the hack, I just replaced the flashing code with a decrement of the stop scrolling code, but the boss music still played. I even tried using free space to change the music back, but it didn't work. I'm curious to see how yours came out.
