I'm surprised you're releasing a demo. You said there wouldn't be any release until it was finished. Changed your mind eh?

I will give it a try, and let you know how it is. I must say that I for one have been very interested in this hack. Oh, you might want to edit your post and tell everyone that the only way to download it is to right click, since it won't work if you click on the link regularly. Anyway, I can't way to play this. Thank you.

EDIT (ADDED) - I had to edit this post since no one else replied.

The demo was decent. The hack could use a little bit of polishing up, mostly in the graphics department, but it was okay. Good job.

Is this demo only supposed to go to the first level of the desert world? Thet's as far as I could get. I'll assume it does anyways

I wasn't able to get the patch even by right-clicking on the link and choosing 'Save Link As...' I had to go to your site by taking off the filename part of the link, then manually typing it in after the FreeWebs page loaded. It's working now though, so all is good there.

I noticed if you just stay still on the map screen, the numbers on what I'm assuming to be the odometer keep increasing For the levels, I'll comment on each of them individually.

Level 1 : The green and orange blocks that have a shadow also have a little bit of white down in the lower right corner of them. You could probably fix that by editing that tile and filling in the empty space with black. The big green bushes also look sort of odd, mainly because of the shaded left and right sides. I don't know if it would look it make any better, but you could make the edge of the bush go all the way down to the ground, or not have the shaded edges on any bush that overlaps another.

Level 2 : Right from the start, I noticed the same thing as stated above with the tall bushes. That's about the only thing I can see in this level.

Level 3 : The problem with the blue and green blocks with the shadow is the same as the green and orange ones in the first level. The tall hills once are here once again. Midway through the level, there's a Fire Brother in a pool of water, but when I go on to the screen, it appears down inside the blocks that make up the outline of the pool. It's not a big problem, but something that, if there's a way to correct it, should be fixed. The Mouser replacement to the big Hammer Brothers is quite neat, although I wonder if it would be possible to make it throw bombs, or maybe even Bob-Ombs instead of hammers. Right near the end of the level, there's the blue and dark blue boxes that also have the same problem as the rest of the blocks with the shadow.

Level 4 : There didn't seem to be anything wrong in this level.

Level 5 : I don't know whether it was your intention or not, but it's possible to skip over a majority of this level by hopping up off the top of the screen at the beginning, and jumping when needed as you go along the top.

Level 6 : If you walk and jump to the right at the start, you'll pass a Koopa, and after the platform it's on, there's one of those blue line-end things. The moving platform falls right off the line. Maybe it's supposed to do that, but I'm not completely sure. Also, before you come to the final platform of the level, there's another platform guiding line with another one of those blue things near the middle of the left hand side of it. That's not the problem though. If you jump down, there'll be another blue thing there that seemingly serves no purpose.

Small Castle : After you go through the double doors, and if you're small, you can run through the small passage that leads to the treasure chest. Problem is, the platform that's rising and falling will rise right up through Mario.

Large Castle / Flying Ship : The palette inside the castle is... different, to say the least. The purple and green, when combined with the rest of the colors looks pretty ugly. As for the flying ship, there's nothing wrong on it that I could see. When you get to the point of reading Peach's letter though, the P-Wing alternates between the wing and 4 x's.

Desert Level 1 : The overall incompleteness of this level makes me almost completely sure that it isn't complete yet, so I'll refrain from saying anything about it.

Other than all those points, this demo is quite good. I never managed to collect 100 coins, so I didn't get to try out the Kuribo's Shoe, but I assume it's pretty much the same as it was in the original game.

In all, you've done a nice job on this demo in my opinon. Keep it up

In addition to the aformentioned, I'd like to add that, in the first doom ship...

I jumped on the koopaling while I was on the center podium, he reverted into his shell, which spun around, and jumped up as normal -- except it jumped up and to the right, right off the screen! He never came back down and I had to wait until time ran out to try again.

The only other problems I had were that a few of the levels were too recognizable to the originals... 1-2 and 1-5, specifically.

Other than that, pretty cool -- Mouser actually made me laugh; wasn't expecting that!

This is a pretty good demo Ringodoggie, This hack is making me want to release a demo of my SMB3 hack too. This is the inspiration I need right now, I like the way you design your'e levels. Very well done.

You better finish this hack Ringodoggie, it has potential.

If you don't finish this hack, I will hire a hitman to get you!

I know that silly. What I was asking is what did you do to stop the glitches? If you didn't do anything, then its possible the glitches will still turn up.

Sorry I forgot to reply to your PM: This doesn't have to do with sprite TSA, it has to do with sprite positioning on screen. I've been looking through the ASM routines for about 30 minutes now without finding anything, but I'll continue searching until I can find a way to fix this.


EDIT: Ah, finally found it.

0x85DB = 00 That will move your fire bros. up by 8 pixels, but this very well may affect other enemies as well, I haven't tested it myself much.

That byte is for bommerang bros, not fire bros. While searching for the byte myself, I got the correct one:
