As you can see, I really changed the style of the ground. I smoothed up the shading quite a bit, and now it alternates between the color and white. I really like the effect this creates. I also added some additional shading to the candycanes to give them more depth. The lollipops are pretty much the same, besides an ever so small tweak of the interior shading. And finally, the palettes have been lightened up a little. Let me know what you think.

I have been considering releasing my sets as well. By the time I finish my hack, we'll all be 50 or so. And I'd like to see what other people could do with my sets. Let me know what you think about this, as well.

NICE. Also did you edit the numbers in the status bar? They looks...different.

I like the addition of shading on some of the objects and the small things on some of the corners of the ground blocks (look at the corners where the blue block meets the purple block, if you don't know what I'm talking about)

The new 'font' in the status bar looks good. It looks sort of cartoonish, so hopefully that's what you were going for

Overall, that screenshot looks quite good. Nice work on that.

...Wow. Tell me how you got them to look so smooth and 3D, and I'll try to figure out a way to e-mail you a blow job.

Hmmm. I didn't realize it until now, but the inside shading on the lollipops make them look broken. Doesn't it kinda look like they're folded inward? Could do with a gradual shade, not a steep change from light to dark.

Sonicandtails: Yes, the status bar is different. I changed it a while ago. I like the new style much better than the old style.

Karadur: I pride myself on the small details, like where blocks meet and interior corners and all that jazz.

Blisseh: A new demo is still a long way off, I'm really struggling with the cake theme and have been considering dropping it (or delegating it to a small sub-world). I'm not sure what you mean about the lollipops, but I have been working on the shading recently and still haven't hit the point I'm trying to reach. Expect more improvements.

The_Raven: I just knew everyone was going to misintepret the title, but that was sorta the point. Sorry guys, I won't tease anymore.

Oddgoo: I've been asked about drawing inspiration from Zool in the past, and I have still yet to play it to see where the connection is. Maybe I'll even get some ideas.

HyperHacker: Part of the 3d effect is a very deliberate use of shading, and I suppose the filter I used for my screenshots (HQ2x) doesn't hurt any, either. PS: Let me know if you find out anything about that email thing, heh.

cpubasic13: What a lot of amateur graphics designers don't realize is that the actual graphics are only one piece of the puzzle. Good palettes also play a part. Don't believe me? Check out some of my early screenshots. And yes, I do make heavy use of the 8x8 editor. Not that I couldn't cram each 16x16 into one palette, but that darned fade out bug keeps me from using each tile's full potential. Actually, the candycanes do use only one palette each, but that's why you'll never see one in the end sequence of a level.

Any other opinions on releasing the set? I'll still be working on my own hack, and slowly refining it as I go along, but like I said earlier, I really would like to see what someone else could do with my work.

Not sure if you would waste your time, but you could change the coins to go along with the theme more. Not necisarily make the coins into mints, but use that 3D effect on it and make it smoother.

Alright.

Look at any of the lollipops there. You've got a very light shade on the upper right outside and lower left inside, and a very dark shade on the lower left outside and upper right inside. At first I didn't see anything wrong with this, because it matches up with the corners of the blocks quite well and those look fine, but... The reason they look fine is because the curve on the edges is much steeper so the quick transition works, but on the lollipops it's very gradual. Because of this, if you look at one of the lollipops long enough, there seems to be an invisible line drawn on the diagonal, which causes it to look ever-so-slightly bent inward. At first I didn't see it, but now I can't stop seeing it, and even before I noticed why they still looked a little off. Since you're using a full palette on the lollipops anyway, I do not believe it would be difficult to add a few more shades of color to make the transition in those edges a little more gradual.

Also, the inside shading on the lollipops in the background seems to make it look a little thicker in the lower-left; would it be difficult to make the shading thinner? I don't see why something that's far away should look as thick as something that's close to you.

Kario: Hmm, recoloring and reshading the coins never occured to me, I'll work on it a bit and see what I get.

Blisseh: Oh, now I see what you're saying. That is actually a concern I had a long time ago, but put on hold for other, more important matters. I only have 3 spare colors per palette (if I remember correctly), but that should be enough to make it a little less obvious.
