Nerds need their action figures and model kits! Indeed, game stores are having more of them, but usually only those related to games and/or anime. One can't walk into a Gamestop and buy a TMNT figure. And the department stores screw collectors in the ass.

Ehm. Do you have a link to an article where it says Toys 'r Us is closing down? I have something of a hard time believing it. Anyway, imagine the irony if they get bought by some video game distributor (Since toys 'r us has a videogame department, then they could have a... Oh forget it.) |

Don't have a link and honestly, I didn't look for one. At least in my area, they are closing down. I doubt all of them are closing, but a lot of them are. Same goes for KB.

TRU *did* sell a ton of NES games back in the day, Kitten Yiffer. In fact, they were going to keep selling Tengen games when Nintendo sued Atari, but Nintendo told them "if you sell those games, we'll cut you off from receiving further shipments". ...Tengen was dropped. |

I just did a paper on video games, and while I was looking at stuff, I came across an interesting fact. I forget the exact number, but something along the lines of 17% of Toys 'R Us' total profits came from selling Nintendo products in 1990.

Although video games do play a factor in the decline in toy stores (a small one), there is another enemy out to get them. ... An enemy ... called ... Wal-Mart ... and those other megastores, yeah. Wal-Mart and the other super-duper megastores have been able outdo toy stores by simply selling the same merchandise for cheaper. Plus, since parents are most likely going to these stores in the first place, why make a detour to Toys 'R' Us to buy toys when you can get them in the store you're shopping at? Personally, I don't think toys are what's going downhill. Toys are, in my opinion, still wildly popular with kids moreso than videogames. It's just the toy stores that are going downhill. Oh, and I've read somewhere that Toys 'R' Us and other toy stores everywhere had to do well during this past Christmas shopping season to roll in the big money, or they would've been struck down. Toys 'R' Us has been trying to keep their shoppers by having exclusive items that nobody else has. |

TRU didn't do well from what I heard. I don't think they bled money or anything but they were likely below expectations. Now, whether they choose to sell or just downsize is another question.

One of my friends who works at a TRU said that their big money maker was video games. I have no idea how true that actually is, but it does tell you something. And there was a Kids R' Us that closed recently near where I live too...Babies R Us and I want to say something else also once made up the "R' Us" empire. |

I dunno, Mega-Stores (IE Wal-Mart) aren't entirely without merit. As I said to my cousin, "People say, 'How can you support the evil empire that is Wal-Mart?' Well, then the evil empire charges me six dollars for a cable I would've had to pay fifteen dollars for at Radio Shack, it makes it a lot easier." |

Due to their exploitation of the third world. Yeah. And their reluctance to suceed in legal battles that they don't need to be in. Yeah. What other merit do they have? Oh yes, destroying various economic ideals. |

Hm... Given the choice between an American Wal-Mart and some of the stores of yore (Hills, Ames, etc.) I'd have to take the latter. Besides, the Hills across the border had a fun video games section and the Ames had a PlayChoice-10 machine. |

No kidding about Radio Shack - I'd never buy a computer there, that's for sure. Even if I wanted a brand name for some reason, I could go to Future Shop and get a better deal. Of course, it was fun when Radio Shack was clearing out TG-16's for $19.99. |

I WANT A CIV3 SPEARMEN AND TANK. (just a game inside joke, sometimes a spearmen can actually defeat a tank. Rarely happens, but it happens...) Dude, Lego rocks. I loved to build with thoose as a kid. Hell, I maybe should play with thoose toys again. But now it's a hobby. Heh, some people should act like kids all over again. Becuse it seems that the smartest people are quite playful hmm... |
