Ive got the Zelda decompressor by Fusoya, and I have extracted the GFX, and in a tile editor, it kinda resembles zelda, but the colors are all screwed up. What would be a good way to go about this? Also, for some reason Hyrule Magic expanded my edited rom by like 2 kb, so Fusoyas utility wont recognise it. Thx for any help. |

There's nothing wrong with the extracted graphics. The editor always uses the same default palette unless you load a custom palette. Palette data is not stored in the tiles themselves. | |||

My advice would be to get ALL your graphics editing done FIRST. ALL of it. Then when youve gotten your graphics done, make a back up, put it in multiple zip files, or however you back-up. Then you can use Hyrule Magic without worry. Some tile editors let you use the proper colors by loading up savestates, picture files, palette files, etc, or, if you know the exact offset of the palette for the graphic your going to edit, you can sometimes type that in a tile editor, and it will pull the correct colors out of the rom itself. Or you can just manually change the default colors the tile editor is using, and save it. Try a variety of tile editors, each have strengths and weaknesses, and your bound to like at least a few. |

I like TileEd 2002, it lets you load palettes from roms, png and gif files, and loads of palette file types. If you can find where the old board backup is, it should still have the Zelda hacking forum, and I thought I saw some palette info in a couple of threads. (it's been awhile ) Here is the Rom Hacking Repository's list of tile editors for download. Try a few. (edited by Chickenlump on 03-26-04 08:29 PM) |
