Surprise! I decided I would give out one demo for everyone to enjoy until the release. This is ONLY ONE LEVEL. This is the "training" level of sorts (yes, I did steal that idea from BMF, sue me!) which will force you to use all the power-ups and their abilities to pass certain obstacles. It's not hard by any means, but you get to play with the new suits for a bit.

This demo was created using FCEUxd's Code/Data Logger, so if you happen to do something I didn't think of in this demo, there WILL be a glitch or possibly a crash, but that's only because of the demo rom, and it doesn't happen in the original version I have.

Also: DO NOT REPORT BUGS. Bugs caused in this demo are undoubtedly caused by me not logging enough things with the code/data logger.

One last thing: The level to play is the RED level tile, not the tile that says 1. Only the data for the training level exists in the patch, so trying to hack around it is futile.

There are two patches in this zip. Patch 0 is for PRG (0) roms and Patch 1 is for PRG (1) roms.

Go nuts!

I just saw that were the last one to post in this section, so I thought it was going to be something about this, and it seems I was right A demo is even better though (even if it is only one level, as you said.

Looks quite interesting, but wouldn't you know it, I have to let my brother use the computer first

Thanks for the demo, even though it is short anyways

Nobody has said anything yet about playing it?

Well, it's awesome! Luigi has more of a SMB2J feel, it seems like..

*Plays more*

EDIT: Yeah, it's pretty damn glitchy though.

Also, the Panda RULES!

Well, it becomes unplayable if you lose a powerup near the first pipe (Pushing down just makes the status bar fly up)... but again, it's a demo, so... yeah.... also happens if you stand on a hit ! switch XD

Just an annoyance.

The code/data logger must rock, then, hehe.

---

It would be a lot more fun, though, if it didn't crash every time I do something.

There's at least one bug I discovered which is not related to the trace logger. It's possible to get completely stuck if you manage to leave the little 'castle' portion (with the lava) while staying a Panda. The room you exit to is blocked by no-pass blocks, and all of the enemies are 'trapped in boxes'. Presumably, you're supposed to use the Mighty Bob-omb here, but I did not collect it.

OOPS! I just submitted a bug report! In the words of Dahrk Daiz, "sue me."

You're supposed to have gotten the Boomerang Suit before the end of the Fortress part (to walk through the lava), and use the boomerangs to kill the enemies through the walls.

Though, it is possible to get through the Fortress part with Panda like Parasyte said, better fix that

Not only t hat, when I tried to collect the boomerang suit, all it did was just act like I had gotten it, but I still had the panda suit on.

Oops.

I know this is just a result of how DD made the patch, but during the P switch maze, do NOT tail-flick the little wall of "!" blocks. Bad things will happen.

Feel free not to read this, DD...

...if you throw a fireball at one of the coins-encased-in-ice-blocks, freeing the coin, and then you go to the left, pushing the block oin question off the screen, and then go back to the right, the coin will be a set of four 8x8 "screw" blocks (the ones that make up the corners of those background panels in 1-1).

I'm sure every single one of these bugs is due to how dahrkdaiz played. The code/data logger only logs what DD did while playing, and since there is probably so many litle subroutines and peices of data in SMB3, he couldn't possibly log everything unless he spent several hours in that level.

It still is a great way to distribute a demo though, if you don't want anything else included in the rom.

I suggest you just deal with the bugs untill he releases the final

I fail to see how skipping a required suit by walking the entire length of the fortess ceiling has any relation to logging? Once you exit the fortress, you cannot return for the boomerang suit. That is what we call a genuine bug.

Now you know I wasn't gonna let this thread slide without me saying anything right?

1. Training level kicks ass.
2. I like the way you have to defeat certain enemies in order to pass.
3. SMB2J Luigi style rocks.
4. The Panda Suit & Mouser Suit, awsome as bloody hell!
5. There ain't no five, cause I'm not reporting bugs (I'm scared of Dingos)

I can't wait for the final product, Mucho Excellente!

Hey,

Obviously this isn't your problem, as everyone else seems to be able to use it all right, but I seem to be having some trouble. I've tried applying both patches to both ROMs (even tried switching them around to see if something got mixed up somewhere -- applying _01 to the PRG-0, for instance), but I can't seem to get any of them to work, and I didn't see any other special comments in the readme file... I even tried three different IPS patchers, thinking mine was effed up, but I still got the same results;

Every time I patch it, the title screen loads, the map loads, I move Luigi to level one and start, the screen fades out... and the game freezes.

Anybody have any ideas? I've patched both of these ROMs plenty of times before, so as far as I know they're not corrupt.

You have to go to the level that's the farthest left when you start the game. It's the tile that would say 'Start' on the normal version of the game. Level 1 will crash for anybody that tries to play it in this demo, as you can see if you read the first post in this thread through
