Fixed. Hahaha... I'm just being a wiseass. But really... GB has too shitty of a res... its games are really... really hindered because of it. I mean Mario takes up 1/10th of the screen in that game.... the screen is so small it has to scroll up when you do a normal short jump.

Better yet, a project I might even try to do sometime: A universal music inserter/extractor/editor. This IS possible

This concept if fundamentally flawed. A universal music edtior is no more possible than a universal level editor. Different music routines use different spaces in RAM... different -amounts- of RAM... different sound channels... some take more space... some take less. On top of that... there's no way for a program to magically find music data... since music data can look like anything. That's like wanting it to find level data -- it just can't be done through automation (or at least... not without full emulation and one hell of a logic sequence -- and even then it'd be iffy).

And even if you somehow manage to make a program find and convert the music data to a common format -- you'd essentially have to reprogram the music engine in the ROM to play the new format. Again... finding the music playback code and rewriting it is not a job best suited for a machine. Add space issues, sound effect conflicts, and a slew of other problems and you might see what I'm talking about.

I would agree with Disch on the universal editor idea. The only universal editors you will ever have will be for very low level, basic editing. (Such as hex editors.)
A graphics editor is only as 'universal' as the features it supports. Just as Sappy is only universal to a standard GBA audio format.

That's because I can't think of any (fast) routine to do that. :/

There are completed hacks of the 1st 2 sonic games. I especially like that Sonic 2 Long version. It has all the regular levels, but it also gots unseen but talked about levels (Wood, Hidden Palace, Winter, Dust Hill zones). I also have tried a few Sonic 1 hacks. I like the one that gives you a spin dash, it ain't perfect but its still pretty cool.

I think that if someone were to make a SML2 editor they should have some kinda option to colorize the thing. And choose your colors. Well, that's my wish anyway.

Another thing I was wishing for was a Hack to turn Mario land 3 to a mario game instead of wario. The sprites for wario are a little wider than a mario land 2 sprite. So you couldnt really switch with that. Pretty much have to redraw wario.

From what I can tell, it doesn't support any kind of data relocation at all.

That is unfortunate. Perhaps I had it mixed up with something else.

hmmmm maybe some hack editors to MK 1 2 3 and UMK 3

and to other fighting games , that would be awesome in my opinion :-)(with support for action replay codes in the ips file through the editor) so when you patched the game with the ips file you could also have the AR codes in it.

just my five cents :-)

I want to see:
A LADX overworld editor that has support for DX graphics(so I can acually finish a hack).

A TGL editor(which is supposed to be in the works by somebody).

Gameboy Advance editors, like for Metroid Zero Mission, the castlevania games, Dawn of Souls, ect.

People actually doing somthing with all the data that I post instead of ignoring it.

Oh, and an Oracle of Seasons/Ages editor. I didn't stay up countless nights cracking the evil compression for nothing.

More sports game hacks. There are precious few of these.

Some newbie-oriented, easy-to-understand documentation that links assembly code to the hex values you see in ROMs. For a beginner, this stuff is really impenetrable. I know that good ASM ahckers always say, "there's no way to teach assembly or make tutorials for it", but a document showing, say, how to have the screen display (suppose) score here, coins here, and "the value stored at 0x12345" here, instead of just score and coins at this other point on the screen, would be nice.

Good documentation about what's stored at what addresses in ROMs. I'm guilty of not documenting anything when I edited Baseball Simulator 2 for SNES; now I've forgotten a lot of stuff.

Documents on how to make an editor. People who know nothing about programming, but know exactly what they want a potential editor to do, could get started on making their own editors.

(ahem)

In the name of flogging a dead horse, sometimes, VB is all we know. And no, we don't have time/patience/motivation to learn another language just because VB's kinda crappy. Honestly, I'd be happy to just finish ReSpin (thought I forgot? ) and then, probably release the source code.

How about more game show game hacks? Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, etc. Make that more hacks of non-action/adventure/RPG games. Sure, those are probably the easiest to do, but how many SMW/SMB1/FF1 hacks can you DO?

I'm somewhat shocked that people can be so picky as to hate VB editors.

Some people forget that most times, people make editors for themselves alone, and if you already know VB and (like drjayphd said) don't have enough time/motivation to learn C++ or whatever it is, why bother?

Not to mention that if you don't like it, just remember it's a free program and if you don't like it you're more than welcome to write your own editor for it

I'm not sure if that's really very possible to do. You need to know something about programming in order to make an editor. That said, I do have a few helper classes that I wrote to speed up the whole editor creating process, but they are in Delphi, and not many people seem to use Delphi.

Here's my wishlist:
-More music editors for games. Especially NES games.

-Editors to be made for Metroid Zero Mission and Metroid Fusion. Enough data is figured out to at least get something going.

-A re-translation of one of my favorite RPGs, Robotrek. It's fun to play, but it conveniently loses grammatical cohesion whenever something funny or important happens.

-A complete hack of one of my other favorite RPGs, Earthbound. There's plenty of editors out there to accomplish this, and I've tried it myself... Easy, but not so easy to stay with it, being such a huge game.

-Musical hacks of games like Metroid and F-Zero, who have recieved really awesome updates to their music in sequels and remakes.

I remember about a year or two ago seeing shots of someone's pet project that was SML1 with 16 bit graphics. Can't remember too much else about it, and I don't know what happened with it, but it looked really cool.

That would be Weasel, and I don't think he had actually planned on making it a rom hack, but I could be wrong. His mock up screens looked pretty darn impressive though.
