Most operating systems have a boot screen when starting up. And the difficulty changing them varies. On both GNU/Linux and Windows 9x/Me, it's extremely easy. Windows 2000 is a bit more difficult, and XP/2003 are pain in the asses. I currently don't have a boot screen on GNU/Linux because I didn't want one... Anyway, if you have a non-standard boot screen, show them off! I made this one for Windows 2000: http://mike.warpedbelief.com/images/win2kboot.png |

I get an error when I try to look at your picture It just says that 'mike.warpedbelief.com' couldn't be found. Anyways, I use BootSkin to change the bootscreens I'm not going to take pictures of all the different ones I can choose from, so here's a screenshot of the selection thing in the program: I'm currently using the 'World Lights' bootskin. I know the screenshots say I'm using the default one, but I switched it right after making this post; it reminded me I had that program The skin is a picture of the Earth, and you can see which areas are lit up by any sort of light. It's not a very good description, but I'll post the preview screenshot of the skin if you want (edited by Karadur on 01-18-05 07:02 PM) (edited by Karadur on 01-18-05 07:03 PM) |

I got one of my many Felicia pics on it. "Powered by hentai technology", it says. Because "hentai" sounds like "en-tai" (NT). |

Hey, it is possible to make a boot screen with more than 16 colors I thought windows XP limited all boot screens to 16 colors. Or have I missed some development?

Originally posted by Super FKitten Yiffer Man! Ha, I changed all the bootscreens at my school last year to that. Not that many people saw it considering people didn't reboot very often. I currently just have the words: Shut Down Please Wait... Stand By In big 3-D letters assigned to their respective screens. I am running WIN98 here so only limited to 16 colours |

Originally posted by neotransotaku No... Windows 2000, XP, and 2003 limit you to 640x480 with 16 colours. Windows 95, 98, and Me could use 256 colours at 320x200 |

But what 16 colours? Or can you choose what thoose 16 colours are? If it's using a seperate pallete it's possible. Hell many old games uses a custon pallete so it looks like 16bit when it's like 256 colours...

It's just an indexed bitmap image with 16 colours, yeah... Same with Windows 9x, only that can use 256 colours (and some special hex at the end which determines what colours to rotate to give the animation illusion). Windows XP and 2003 store the palette separately from the bitmap, that's why they are a bit trickier than Windows 2000 to replace the screen. |
