There have been a few Tecmo Super Bowl (NES) edits over the years, mostly updating NFL teams or creating historical teams. Denny and I decided to do a much bigger project than these by doing a WLAF/USFL Dynasty edit. Here is what was produced (below lists most of the changes).

I hope everyone enjoys this edit, it sure is fun to play.

Feel free to post any comments.

Team List
---------------------------
This is the complete list of the teams in the Dynasty WLAF/USLF Edit. We tried selecting each teams best year, some years were chosen to prevent a massive amount of duplicate players. In game all teams have their full team name. No years are dignified in their tecmo name so the 85 Generals are setup as just the New Jersey Generals in game. This was to prevent new people to these leagues from getting confused and it looks better this way.

10 WLAF (1991-92) Teams
18 USFL (1983-85) Teams

AFC EAST - WLAF
------------------
1992 Birmingham Fire
1992 Orlando Thunder
1992 Ohio Glory
1992 Sacramento Surge
1992 San Antonio Riders

NFC EAST - WLAF
------------------
1991 Barcelona Dragons
1991 London Monarchs
1991 Frankfurt Galaxy
1991 Montreal Machine
1992 New York/New Jersey Knights (It's "NY NJ Knights" in game)

AFC CENTRAL - USFL
------------------
1985 Oakland Invaders
1984 Los Angeles Express
1985 Denver Gold
1983 Arizona Wranglers

AFC WEST - USFL
------------------
1983 Michigan Panthers
1983 Chicago Blitz
1984 Houston Gamblers
1984 San Antonio Gunslingers (Had To Be Shortened to Slingers in game, Name Was Too Long)
1984 Oklahoma Outlaws

NFC CENTRAL - USFL
------------------
1984 Tampa Bay Bandits
1984 Birmingham Stallions
1985 Jacksonville Bulls
1985 Memphis Showboats
1983 Boston Breakers

NFC WEST - USFL
------------------

That is fantastic! I've always been a fan of the Frankfurt Galaxy (and even have a jersey).

On the way to download!

That's a cool idea. I once had a thought of editing TSB into a college football game, but just never got around to starting it.

The biggest flaw with TSB editing, from what I remember, is that you could take a team like New England, and stack it with players like what they have now, and they'd be a good team to play as, but if you autoskip the whole season they'll still go 2-14 every year because the CPU would still think they're awful. But this was like four years ago. Does the game still have that type of problem?

Does the game have separate data for the auto-season? (That is, does it not actually play the games using the player data?) I discovered that Baseball Stars cheats a bit when simulating games without watching them -- namely, no substitutes ever come in the game to bat. I wouldn't be surprised if Tecmo Bowl has lots of shortcuts of this ilk.

That isn't a problem anymore. Each team has an offensive and defensive simulation number that makes the team good or bad. Each player has simulation numbers for different skills to show how good they are. These numbers are a bit more important for offensive players than the offensive rating. The defense on the other hand is based solely upon this rating. The defensive players simulation numbers mostly just affect the stats they get.

Heian-794, the above explains your question as well but when the computer sims it does record injuries and the simulation numbers for the substitutes then comes into play.

Uhm, what.

Any chance of making these sim numbers known?

I had never played Tecmo Super Bowl before so I'm fooling around with it just to get used to things. It's too bad the Bears don't have Walter Payton anymore!

I like your new font; especially the numbers, which look like those on football uniforms (such as the 7). Did you draw it yourself?

I didn't draw the font used, the only thing changed I didn't draw. It was pulled from another video game (can't remember which one) with a few letters tweaked just a bit.

drjayphd, the numbers are very known outside of here. Emuware made a program that can change these values. They are also updating old programs and making new ones for the stuff we have found in the game.

...oh. Well, I remember seeing an editor, but it was kinda crap (okay, it looked like shite... probably from the Windows 3.1 user interface master class) so if they're updating it, I can't complain.
