Should we have a staff re-org?
Oh...and maybe some reasons why you think the way you do as well.

Don't forget that some forums might not need local mods. The goal here shouldn't be to swell the staff through arbitrarily assigning mods to forums; efficiency is the key.

No real new reasons; basically, there are several staff people on that list who, as far as I can tell, almost never post. Now, it's possible that they make contributions behind the scenes, but in my view, people who only contribute behind the scenes can be dangerous--it fosters an image of the board being run by mindless robots instead of human beings. A little contact with the "common subjects" may be nice.

Additionally, I do feel a more hard-line stance needs to be taken when it comes to banning in general. If you're going to permaban someone, DO IT. If not, don't call it a "permaban" when most people expect the person will be back in a month anyway. Otherwise, the staff as a whole gains a reputation that they can be walked on, similar to the perception the administration of GameFAQs (Specifically CJayC) has earned for itself over the years ("Okay LUE, you've gotta shape up, this is your last chance. Okay LUE, I'm not kidding, I'm giving one more chance. Okay, I'm SERIOUS this time, it's your LAST CHANCE..." and so on).

I'd compare the LUE fiasco to how we tried to get rid of Lost Threads at one time - didn't quite go over so well.

The staff do a great job already, but it's best to have some more support with the minor forums than running to the nearest admin and commanding him to close down a thread all the time, right? Let's make their job easier.

Nice upside down pyramid.

LUE probably is the most wellknown spammy messageboard out there, it's infamous yet... sought after. I never did go into there.

Colleen: And let's not forgot, the ACS. Some people said it was the source of all spam... but did it help closing it? Sometimes the solution isn't as easy as it seems...

I think most of the admins can stay as they are, because they do a great job already. The mods, however, might need to calm down and take a break. The ones we have today do a great job, but some of them are rarely active, while others use their power just to get higher respect, like they are "better people" than everyone else. So in general, I think it's okay to change most of them. Also, I think there should be two mods in the most active forums, and one in the "not so active" ones. Forums like the "Game creation centre", don't need any. But the "Online forum" needs one, definitely.

The old staff should choose the new ones, like said. The new ones don't have to be anything else than good, average members. There are many people out there who haven't got their chance yet to show what they got. Of course, they have to be serious, just not over-serious. Also, you shouldn't choose old members only, there are some (quite) new members here that can be excellent mods too.

Again, those are only my opinions, so you don't really have to listen to them.

The board has come a long way from it's rom hacking and emulation routes, but it's an important part of the community even now.
It seems as though there's a community of it's own there, and would benefit from a little more staff.
It's good to know that people still come here especially for our emulation and rom hacking forums

At this point in time, I'm just leaning against really. Some of the staff is doing an alright job at least. Lame threads are getting trashed or closed, the bans that are issued out seem to be appropriate, but... I think it could use a reworking.

Now, I hope that some people are NOT voting "Strongly for..." just because they would like to be organized into the staff. That's just plain selfish.

This certainly sounds like a good idea. We have several inactive staff members, a whopping 10 admins, and a few forums that desparately need more mods (or even any mods). Look at poor BMF, practiacally all alone handling both SMW and ROM Hacking (Earth to Fu, come in Fu, where are you?) and nobody in Programming or Help & Suggestions.

Eh... off the top of my head, we HAVE quite a few admins who access Programming on a regular basis and can take care of it just fine.

Of course, every forum will be looked at on a case-by-case basis.

At the very least, we should evaluate how well the current staff is working and see if there are any specific problems with it. If a reorganization would do the board good, I'm all for it, but at the same time, I believe that if something ain't broke, don't fix it.
