Should we have a staff re-org?
Oh...and maybe some reasons why you think the way you do as well.

Seeing the votes now, there is not a single person against. And I am quite surprised over this, I was expecting a vote or two against a staff "Re-organization" after the poll have been around for a few hours but... seems like it's finally gonna happen.

I'm not for nor against; I believe we have a good staff now. I might have some personal problems with some people on it, but that doesn't mean that they don't do a good job, nor that a new staff would be without problems entirely.

Like YD said, everyone has a different idea on what's too lenient or too strict. This is one of the toughest parts of being a staff member, or assembling a staff in the first place. Acmlm won't be able to pick ten people and go have lunch if he needs to put together a new staff.

knuck, I'm not about to continue the discussion further than saying that if you think people didn't notice you following Kitten Yiffer around to make snide remarks, you really underestimate people.

I voted strongly for, the SMW hacking forum needs more mods.

I think it should be something to be considered... But it could also go the other way.:/

Yes.. He is right about that one. After all those bumpings and spams in that forum that has been going on lately... By the way, I voted strong here also and I'am very serious about my decision..

Not that my vote's needed, but I'm all for it. Seriously, 33 staff members? If anything important were to come up that required a staff consensus... well, it wouldn't be happening.

staff should be relegated to the duty of fixing things like unintentional double posts, deleting multiple user accounts, and generally staying the hell out of almost everything else.

staff needs to relax. people need to stop flipping out about things on the internet. smoke some pot, run a mile or something, whatever soothes you.. moderator and staff positions have mainly become power trips.

Yes, like flame wars and hacking attempts. People might need to "stop flipping out about things on the internet", but it's not gonna start with us.

Gavin, you're more relaxed than most other people on here; that says more about you than it does about the board in general. This board has never been a board where you can get away with humorous things outside of Craziness Domain - there's always people around to misinterpret what you say or start a holy war on any given topic. That's one of the only downsides to the board today, as I see it. I've seen boards run more loosely (including running a few myself with other people), but, for better and for worse, I simply don't think it's possible with a board with so many regulars.

I can't help but thinking that you'd be better off on one of the more relaxed boards; not only do you post stuff like this - which is a valid point but ultimately like proposing relegating a senate to a pub gang - but you also flame a lot. It might be "friendly flames" or just small jabs in that you mean no harm, but people still take offense, and it simply doesn't work as well on a board this 'serious'.

If its not broken, don't fix it.

Even though I don't care either way, since the boards aren't in a bad shape the admins are doing their jobs fine. Of course, if it does happen, and it looks like it will, then as long as a bunch of idiotic people don't get into positions of power, it'll probably turn out for the best.

that's a very good point Jesper. i'm really not an asshole, i just get furstrated that people don't think like me, which is a very imature display of uncontrolled emotions besides that the fact that it's impossible and impractical to expect one minority viewpoint to change an entire board's deep-rooted structuring and philosophy. i know i can't win 'em all, so i'll just continue posting sporadically.

Aside from that, my model board would be Zophar's i think, people there aare mostly relaxed. And there if you say something which would be viewed as an "attack" on another member, it had better be for a valid point or else you get your ass handed to you, nobody closes a threat just because a dirty word or a bad name was thrown. you can only dish out what you can take in, that's why i like it

(edit: can't spell and additional point)

1 out of 3.3 staff members is an admin; yet we are short on local mods. It's certainly broken, I'm just not sure the best way to fix it is the one where we throw the baby out with the bath water.

For most minor offenses, an offending user will be warned about his/her conduct through a PM.
Saying "Kitten Yiffer is going firefox" of course is NOT a minor offense and it needs a ban ASAP instead of a warning.

But like Kasumi said, let's drop it now k?

Why not?

The board had a restart months ago (closing in on a year soon I think), so wouldn't it kind of be common sense too?

And I'm not pointing fingers, but from what I've seen, some of the staff on here isn't even that active, whether they're posting or not, some staff I almost -never- see on, and a few of them are higher levels.

And I also agree with Gavin, in the end, we're all humans here.

The greatest thing to have on message boards in my opinion is, common sense.

*Most* Of the staff is doing a fine job right now. Theres only a couple that I think need to be "let go" and replaced with some more 'active' members.

Im not super strong for this, but I know change needs to come in some form...

I'm kinda for it... more in the aspect of the local mod issue.

Not much for me to say, but that's what I'm sticking with
