Should we have a staff re-org?
Oh...and maybe some reasons why you think the way you do as well.

This is probably going to register for some as a 'why in the heck is he posting this?' but I'll explain. There were questions among staff that had been circulating for the last few months and a few were brought up into point this past week. After getting a consensus of opinion from members, mods, admins, and Ace himself, there was an 'okay' given by all to go ahead and get opinions from the rest of the board.

The way this poll goes will determine whether or not we get a staff reconstruct or not. Now really we could go ahead and do this now since I already have Ace's approval but I would want to know how the rest of the board feels before we jump into something that we might regret.

So from the choice, choose how best you feel about a staff reconstruct among members. If you recall 2002, the last reconstruct, there were apps and whatnot. Not this time. Not a popularity contest. There's already a committee among staff made up, headed by Ace, that will not be changed. They will be the ones responsible to whether or not you get on staff or not. As a matter of precaution, I'm not going to give the rest of the names out because I don't want certain members getting ideas if we go ahead and do this. It'd be wise not to bug Ace about getting into staff either.

Basically, if this passes, don't ask to be on staff. The committee already has their opinions already and it will more than likely not be swayed, at least very far. So no 'OMG ME ADMIN PLZ!!11' in this thread. This is just to see whether you want the staff changed or not. Giving reasons why would also help so that we can choose accordingly if this passes.

This is something that is direly needed. Given a staff that will often vary from a negative detriment to the board, to a staffer bearing all the weight of their decisions, this is not only vastly needed, but more over wanted. I think I can speak for many users when I say let the re-organization begin!

I think the staff is perfect the way it is. I've never really had problems with any mods or admins. I may have questioned some of their actions some times, but then I looked into it and felt they were right. So I don't care what happens as long as it benefits me.

If I get banned for being an ass or something though, remind me to change my vote to for a staff reconstruction.

Oh, I should have mentioned this...but I'll probably keep opinions on this open until about Friday or Saturday...just until I feel we've got a good consensus going.

If this passes, it'll be based on this point system:

Strong For: +2
Lean For: +1
Either Way: 0
Lean Against: -1
Strong Against: -2

Higher than 0 to pass. So right now, it would pass because it's +4.

The thing is, well. Earlier I wanted a staff change, but right now... well. If a few inactive staff could get replaced by more active (i'm not saying that they have to post alot as me, but just be... around posting. And outside of the staff forums too...

For now, i'm leaning towards actually doing a staff Re-organization.

I'll vote for 'Strongly For'. This couldn't hurt, and it'd be a good choice especially if there are more present staff members (some of the current staff members are almost never on, or I just have no luck and don't see them online).

I don't think having staff 'active' all the time is the problem, not that there are many problems at the moment. This board is generally quite quiet, as boards go. I think there are too many admins, not to say any of the admins are particularly bad or anything, there's just too many and the balance of power has shifted away from Acmlm, who, after all, owns the board and everybody trusts him.

There needs to be more consistency. Obvious troublemakers are easily taken care of but the problems are those users who persistantly antagonise other users and generally act like asses.

Less admins might also solve the problem of permabans not being... Well, permabans.

Consistency is the key, rather than activity.

Less staff is a good plan, too.

Actually Fyxe, i think the problem is with permaban HAPPENING in first place. Staff with it's zero tolerance thing and some people that shouldn't be staff at all.
I say hell yes we need it!

Zero tolerance? I think their tolerance is too high, really. There are so many staff it's surely hard for them to reach a consensus, anyway.

I don't have any sympathy with most of those who have been permabanned (barring a few examples of severe misplay by staff, such as the Kario incident, I believe, although my memory on the subject isn't perfect). I manage to avoid it, it's not that difficult.

Well, I've heard many things about the staff, both good and bad. I'm strongly for it, but not cause I don't like the staff, I don't really care since I've no problems with 'em. Still, a little revision of the staff, motives, manners of doing things, way of thinking, etc... Heh, if it's end up the same way it is right now, it's good. If not, so be it.

I have voted strongly for the reorganization. We have too many undermoderated forums (e.g. SMW hacking could stand much more mods, regarding the density of "liek omg i cant read any of the three faq threads explain me what is asm can i eat it" threads), whilst others' mods are practically unemployed. In the same time, too many staff members ban people almost randomly for private reasons or fun.

Only admins can ban, and I am guessing most or all of the admins will stay, they probably know too much to be kicked out, but what do I know? :-P I'm all for this, I don't have any new reasons not said here though.

I'm for it. There has been many bitchings regarding power, why not.. and there seems to be way too much staff as is. I just want to see a massive shift happen, no asking what everyone else thinks, no bullshit. I recall 2002 very well.

I think knuck is the only one that can specifically and simultenously argue that I'm a pussy and that I'm too harsh on Legion.

I think Legion deserved it and that you, Jesper, were perfectly fair, if not too lenient. He seemed to enjoy playing the Devil's advocate and finding as many ways to anger others as possilbe. However, I don't know him well and I've never spoken to him outside seeing his posts, so I can't be too decisive about it.

As for the staff reformation, I say go for it. Kasumi is right, the key to a good board is a good staff. I have no issues with any of the staff members, but I believe policies ought to be a little less lenient and perhaps there should be fewer members.

Who is talking about Legion? I got banned WITHOUT A WARNING because i said twice "Kitten Yiffer goes firefox".

Actually, other than the last one, i never got a warning before a ban. ;o
But about that topic Jesper, maybe you are right. Maybe i'm the only who liked the board how it was in 2002.
Oh wait, there's Acmlm, Zem...

So most are agreeing that the staff should be changed, but people have different ideas on whether the rules are too strictly enforced or too leniant.
I have a feeling new problems will arise.
