Well before going on, I must say that Luigi's Coin Quest has been cancelled. I do not have the will to devote insane amounts of time and work it would take to complete that hack (and trust me, the direction it was heading, it would require a LOT of time).

Fear not though, I do have a final SMB3 on the way and is very near to completion. This is mainly a major ASM hack and small level edits. Meaning this is no Mario Adventure, rather, this is revisiting SMB3 with slightly altered levels, which are altered enough so the experience isn't dull. Each power-up as new powers (Boomerang Luigi, yes that's right, Boomerang; Racoon Luigi can double jump, just to name a few) along with many other cool new features.

This hack will have you playing as Luigi with slightly altered controls, including a floatier jump, higher jump, and ice-like controls (in addition, fireballs bounce slightly higher than before). Even the sprites have been edited to properly fit Luigi.

All of the graphics are just touched up versions of the original graphics, so there won't be new themes, just better drawn ones.

There's still a lot I've left out of the description, I have to have my surprises. How close of a release am I? Let's just say, it'll be before the year is up. So, for now, lets look at some eye candy to see what I have in store.

World 1

Fireballs in action

Red coin?

Somersaulting... without a star?

Standing on lava?

He's grey... does this mean has has statue powers

World 6

Fireballs metling small ice blocks

Shells... going up

World 4

Square ! blocks...

then round ! blocks...

I was thinking to myself how those Game Genie codes make SMB3 quite interesting to replay, and now there's this! The only thing that would make it better would be some kind of secret destroy the level with fireballs ala those few codes you made only with all tiles... but that probably would mess up alot of things, I just want to see that work on all tiles or perhaps make it only work on certain tiles so you can't wreck the ground and make odd looking patches, or destroy a pipe you need to enter.

I especially like the background in the castle, with the red diamonds. Snow looks great as well.

It's too bad to hear you won't be working on Luigi's Coin Quest anymore. That was a good idea, but if it takes up too much of your time, there's not alot you can do about it

All those screenshots look really nice, with the exception of the palette in the 5th one, like Chris posted. The ice pyramids in the shot of World 6 look interesting. Are there any levels in that land where you'll end up going inside one of them? Are the shells 'tossable' like they are in SMW? Even if they aren't, that could definitely add a new challenge to the game

Quite interesting looking screenshots there. Let's hope it's not long 'till you release a patch

The palette issue has been duely noted and I brightened things up a bit, so it's not as ugly (I assume the dark blue is what makes thing seem icky, right?)

Cool hack, Rebecca. How did you make the shell go upwards? Item toss-up feature like in SMW?

Ringodoggie, let me introduce you to DahrkDaiz. His name is currently stuck in sex-change mode. He is also highly respected as an ASM hacker. (ASM is how he did those things) He also made Mario Adventure, a superior SMB3 hack.

Oh yeah, Dahrk. Update your site. Latest news is that your hack isn't dead.

Hmm, we've got interesting things there, yeah...
I assume the bommerang luigi will replace our old hammer-suit luigi, and on the castle screen it reminds me of these boomerang guy in Zelda 2, they were really funny.
As usual Daiz, nice/cool/great/awesome job! If you took notes while hacking, you might have very big docs about that game, uh? *interested

Hurrah. I definately love the fact fireballs will turn enemies into coins. Adding new powers to other powerups should be pretty cool also. I don't mind that the levels weren't heavily changed. It'll just be cool to play thru the game with the new fireballs.

Oh fireballs aren't the only thing that turns enemies into coins... *cough*, but yeah, I've been adding more and more cool stuff lately.

The shell manipulation is cool. You can kick the shell forward, as normal, kick it up without it spinning (thus, when it lands, it doesn't move), kick it up with a spin (so it can break bricks on the way up, or kill enemies) or kick it forward without a spin (so if its about to come alive and you don't want to kick it, you can kick it down and stomp it again for later).

I still need to give a practical purpose for somersaulting. It's cool, but it needs to have a feature to it, but not something cheap, ya know?

By somersaults, do you mean in the air? Or like, a roll forwards? (Ala Sonic Advance 2)

Ooh! How about the ability to crawl!? And like, you could shoot fireballs through the tunnel while crawling, and you could also do hammers, but they wouldn't go as far...

That looks quite interesting Are you able to shoot all 5 fireballs after you pick up just one flower? The reason I ask is because something like this came to mind: you pick up one flower, and you're able to shoot one fireball like you would normally. If you pick up another flower after that, you can shoot two fireballs in succession. If you pick up a third, you can then shoot three. If you pick up a fourth, well, you get the point by now

I think that's a neat idea, but I've got no idea of whether it'd be too difficult to implement in the game or not

If you really plan on releasing this before the new year, time's running short Only three more days

still haven't gotten a somersault idea that I want to use, but I've gone on and added tons of other cool stuff, like this!

Most mushroom houses will have this in them. Choose the box on the left, get a Frog suit, box in the middle, a Tanooki suit, box on the right, a Boomerang suit, each and everytime.

I hear tell that, in this hack, the frog suit does more than just making you swim well and look funny.
