Well, traditionally, expansion packs expand on a previous game. And traditionally you need the original game to play them. And traditionally it's part of the same storyline. Yadda yadda yadda. |

Didn't Vice City have roughly the same requirements for the PC as GTA3 did? Watch the next one be called GTA4 and force Legion to issue a written apology saying that he was wrong all along and deeply regrets his actions. |

Do you know what the three cities in the first GTA were called? That's right. Liberty City, Vice City and San Andreas. TEH CIRCLE IS COMPLETE!~ So when GTA4 is made, I'm gonna be one million dollars richer. This makes me very happy. |

max is correct. We'll see. Would max still win the bet if the game's codenamed "GTA4" but ends up being called something different although Rockstar acknowledges it as #4? |

No, because GTA4 isn't "Grand Theft Auto 4" and the bet was about a game entitled "Grand Theft Auto 4."

*bump* Reason? This thread has some good intel on the PSP, and since the days are getting closer to its launch, I figured that we could revive this thread intead of making a new one. Anyway, in Japan, they launched the PSP with a value pack. It was unsure if the pack would hit the states, but I've just read that it will. It will be launched on March 21st, for the nice price of $249.99 dollars. Yippie. More info below: Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. announced today the North American launch details for the PSP. Available on March 24, in North America Sony is only going to be releasing the PSP Value Pack for a suggested retail price of $249.99 U.S./$299.99 CND. There will be no base package released at launch. The North American PSP Value Pack contains a 32 MB Memory Stick Duo, headphones with remote control, battery pack, AC adaptor, soft case and cleaning cloth, movie/music/game video sampler UMD disc including multiple non-interactive game demos, and for the first one million PSP Value Packs shipped, a special UMD video release of the feature film Spider-Man 2 from Sony Pictures Entertainment. Sony Computer Entertainment will manufacture one million units for sale in the North American market by the close of its fiscal year ending March 31. This figure is part of the company's total three-million-unit worldwide PSP system shipment estimate within the same time period. "PSP will evolve and elevate portable entertainment, giving users the freedom to play full 3D games, watch movies, listen to music and connect wirelessly on their terms, their time and their place," said Kaz Hirai, president and chief executive officer, Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. "More than ever, today's consumer demands access to entertainment outside the home without compromising quality. With more than 100 PSP game titles currently in development worldwide, and the ability to download and listen to digital music and view feature films with breathtaking screen quality, PSP lets users control their entertainment options, all in one package." In addition, Sony is readying an explosive 24 title launch, with games starting at $39.99. Sony announced that SCEA has an additional 23 games currently in development. "The high profile lineup includes a wide range of products that will appeal to every type of gamer -- from the sports fan to the action enthusiast -- providing consumers with the ultimate entertainment experience in the palm of their hands," said Andrew House, executive vice president, Sony Computer Entertainment America. "Combined with a strong first party lineup, the portable entertainment space will be catapulted to new heights as we engage in the single biggest consumer launch of the year." "We are pleased to be building franchises for the PSP that will change consumers' expectations of portable entertainment content," said Jack Tretton, executive vice president, Sony Computer Entertainment America. "PSP has allowed the development teams to create engaging content that is not only fun to play, but shows off the amazing technology of the unit, brining unparalleled visual quality to the portable entertainment arena." The North American PSP launch line-up includes: Ape Escape: On the Loose, Sony Computer Entertainment America ATV Offroad Fury: Blazin' Trails, Sony Computer Entertainment America Darkstalkers Chronicle: The Chaos Tower, Capcom Dynasty Warriors, KOEI FIFA 2005, Electronic Arts Gretzky NHL, Sony Computer Entertainment America Lumines, Ubisoft Metal Gear Acid, Konami MLB, Sony Computer Entertainment America MVP Baseball, Electronic Arts NBA, Sony Computer Entertainment America NBA Street Showdown, Electronic Arts Need for Speed Rivals, Electronic Arts NFL Street 2 Unleashed, Electronic Arts Rengoku: Tower of Purgatory, Konami Ridge Racer, Namco Smartbomb, Eidos Interactive Spider-Man 2, Activision Tiger Woods PGA TOUR, Electronic Arts Tony Hawk's Underground 2 Remix, Activision Twisted Metal: Head On, Sony Computer Entertainment America Untold Legends: Brotherhood of the Blade, Sony Online Entertainment Wipeout Pure, Sony Computer Entertainment America World Tour Soccer, Sony Computer Entertainment America |

man wtf @ bump *close and ban anya* Actually, in all seriousness, I sense N-gage all over again here. Yeah, Sony hasn't made any stupid remarks alienating their core audience (IE "GBA is for 10-year-old geeks!"), but that's about the only difference. For one, this so-called "Value Pack" launches without a game, meaning you're looking at an initial investment of close to $300 if you actually want to use it as, you know, a gaming system. The fact that they chose to launch it with a movie rather a game...well, some people call it stressing the entertainment portion of the device, I call it Sony not being quite sure how they really want to market it. Traditionally, devices like these tend to be jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none, meaning it has a bunch of features and does none of them well. That, and Metal Gear Acid seems to be the closest thing to a must-have launch game, which doesn't really bode well for its future. Of course, I thought the X-Box would bomb too. |

I read that, off the bat, Sony wants this to be a gaming system, and later on, a form of entertaiment; with MP3 downloads, playing movies, and shit like that. And what I heard about MGS Ac!d, is that the battle system is like, well, you use cards. |

Yes, Anya. It is You know Sony designed this for? Sucking up batteries ruthlessly. Then a cash cow. Then a video game system. Then a poor ass movie-music player. |

$249 is way too much. I think Sony priced themselves right out of the market with that move. I know they're losing money on each system to begin with, but lots of people are going to look at that tag and think it's $249 for the system itself, not the extra "goodies". $40 games = really bad idea too. Of course, if you're a sports fan, by all means get the system because half the launch lineup is composed of sports titles from EA/Sony. |

A lot of people are comparing the PSP to the Sega Game Gear, as in how it sucks up batteries. That is pretty sad to compare it to a handheld that went out of date back in the early 90's. And even the size of it reminds me of the Game Gear, save on how thin it is. And the discs...at least with the SP and even the DS, you don't have to worry about messing it up, with discs, well, scratches will be many if you are not careful.

Nah, you just have to tilt the system the right way and watch the disc fly out like a frisbee. I don't like Sony's "the game companies have to take responsibility for a game's battery use" policy. God forbid they have to reduce polygon counts to allow a game to run an extra hour. |

It's not even that. The fact that some games can run for 6 hours on fully charged batteries and others for 3 hours should cause alarm bells to ring right there. |
