Bush let 9/11 happen...he let the war on Iraq happen. We couldent just leave them alone for the time being. Now we're losing family and friends over there because Bush doesent know how to pull out. Well now that Bush is deep into Iraq I guess I have to not fight him going in...but still! Bush should of lost this election, and im sticking to my vote.

Ziff - Oh come on dude, NAZIISM! Right there in big capital letters! Sonic - Was Bush just supposed to wave his magic wand and prevent 9/11? Jesus. He's the president, not God. You want someone to blame there, blame the upper bureaucracy of the DoD, FBI and CIA for not paying enough attention to threat warnings coming out of the terrorism departments and not sharing information enough. But of course they're not elected officials and it's just so damn easy to scapegoat someone else who didn't even know a thing about it... (edited by Zarathud on 01-03-05 12:35 PM) |

No, Otto Von Bismarck's changes to create a constitutional monarchy. Of course, Otto Von Bismarck was long dead when Hitler came to power, but I'd assume that Conservative political historians would state that to this day he and his robot side kicks still ride ponies in Germany! Zarathud - He is the President. If he hadn't been a moron and decided to go "Durrrrhhhh let's just completely clear all the White House files because we're Republicans". He decided to follow the fools of Reagen and his daddy and continue to institute members of the hierarchy within the critical US agencies as long as they gave him partisan support. |

Ziff, it's getting harder and harder to tell whether you're just pulling my leg or not. Most of the CIA and FBI staff at the time were still holdovers from the Clinton administration. What in the hell are you smoking?

That last thing was a joke. The President isn't to blame, it is just the whackiness of the American intelligence beauracracy and their accursed stoicism. As for Godwin's Law, I'm going to stand by and say that the comparison of BUSH TO BISMARCK is not grounds for its invocation. If I were to go OMG Hitler!!!@#$@$BUSH KILLS MIDDLES EASTS J00S LIKE HITELRS! then yes, that would be acceptable. |

s009, due to your inappropriate behaviour, I have deleted your post, and will ensure your punishment. Homophobia...BAD I would link to the FAQ, but you've been here long enough to know the rules. I hope that this will sort you out. This will be a formal warning. If I see any form of bigotry like that again in this segment of the board, I will insure that you will be given more warnings. Oh, wait, I can't hate Bush for the same reasons I hate Jerry Falwell, because Falwell is Evangelical (sp?). But let's just say, they are pretty similar. Here's a somewhat recent quote from Falwell: "I think we need to go and bomb most of the Middle East. Even if it means we are going to have to kill thousands of innocent people, who, might I add, are going to hell anyway because of their pagan beliefs, we have to kill those terrorists off before they attack us again. We have to bomb that sector of the world in the name of the Lord." Ok. Bush may not be that direct and... crazy... but let's just say the two men are similar enough that I can hate both by association. |

I will never go to Yale. Ever. You can say that if I try hard enough I can transfer, that all my dreams are obtainable, blah blah blah. The fact remains that I will never go to Yale. Yet this stupid bastard can not only go to Yale, but do lots of drugs there, drink, party, and still pass with a C because his daddy is rich. Fuck the bastard. I don |

As much as I agree that the brain trust is at the heart of the problem, Jay doesn't win. Bush is not at Dick Cheney's or Condeleeza Rice's mercy. If he thought that what he's doing and representing was wrong, I don't think he would do it. The man is very clear and very certain in his convictions, and his convictions are far right-wing. There's no doubt about it. He's not bullshitting when he says this ridiculous shit that he says -- he believes it. (edited by Andrew on 01-28-05 06:51 PM) |

Originally posted by Andrew well, Drjayphd half wins. He wins for foreign policy. The rest bush is a douche on. It's impossible to credit all of bush's foriegn policy actions to him alone. In fact pinning any of them on the president would be faulty. This president more than ant other's in recent history has relied on the policies, ideals, and convictions of his staff. That's exactly what he ran on in 2000, not his experience, but the combined experience of his staff. look into Paul Wolfowitz's draft in the 70's proposing the effects of non-american-friendly Persian Gulf national taking control of the region after feeling the bad effects of America dealing with Iran. Look to Powell asserting his precense more than any previous Joint Chiefs of Staff as the first in that office presiding after the Goldwater-Nichols act of 1986. Look into rumsfeld's consistancy for being a total douche and snake in the grass Look at Armitage, Cheney, and Rice. If you simply read into thier history of serving our government you can see exactly where are current foreign policy actions have taken root. To me, bush is almost a bystander as they enact their ideals. (edited by Gavin on 01-29-05 07:30 PM) (edited by Gavin on 01-29-05 07:32 PM) |

Colleen Powell was an unwilling figurehead during his time in the Bush Cabinet, dude. He was solid against the Iraq war, and the Bush Administration basically forced him to try and sell it to the UN. That said, he's an asshole and a sellout for doing it.

Doesn't Powell get any redemption at all for being one of the first to jump ship during the second term? Though, actually, it would probably be more likely that he was "persuaded" to resign. In any case, he was a voice of reason among the madness. I hate to say it, but I liked Colleen Powell. I'd gladly take him as our first black president if he ever had the guts to run. |

In my mind Mr. Bush represents an America which someday down the road will develop into an opressive theocracy. The number one factor on why people voted for bush? Morales. That's frightening. Why? Morales are how you are told to think, told to act. Morales are subjective, not entirely concrete. How are you supposed to govern a nation as large as America with morales? Someone is obviously going to dissagree at one point or another. You cannot place a ban on gay marriage, and I cannot beleive that they have. It is a matter of religion-- church and state are separate. Under Bush though, the line is very fine between the two. And well- it honestly scares me a bit. Besdies the whole ongoing church vs. state battle. I wish he would pick a reason for being in Iraq and stand by it. If it was from the beginning to remove Saddam Hussein from power and set up a democratic government-- why didn't he say so? Why were we told there were WMD's? And why are we helping out a country in which most of the population can't stand us? Why are we there Mr. President? I'm afraid the war in Iraq is going to turn into another Vietnam. I can't see any possible way we can expect to just pull out of there now. If there's a draft- well many of my friends will be going to fight for a cause they don't even beleive in. If you're going to do something as dramatic as go to war.. make sure your nation supports you. Especially your nations youth because guess what-- that's who's going to be fighting it for you. There are a number of other reasons. Including that Mr. Bush passed a bill allowing animal testing to be done on bunnies. Yeah-- poor defenseless bunnies. I'll try to dig up an article on it, it happened a while ago. Just the fact that he is so loyal to big bussiness is unsettling. |
