I've been trying to get to Challenge games for the past few days and whenever I go to cg-games.net, it redirects me to http://neptune.lunarpages.com/suspended.page/.

Does anyone know what's happened? They're not in legal trouble again, are they?

Interesting. Last time I checked there, most of the site was still down (forums were read-only, etc.), but at least you could get to it.

Let's just hope this time something's wrong with the server or something That was the only place I could go to check on Quest for Calatia

X-4000 has contacted a few of us at the panicus hosted CG board. He has just recently married as some of you may or may not know, and has all the money issues that come along with it.

Sliver-X offered to either transfer CG to Panicus hosting entirely, or going in with a few people to cover the cost of the CG bill. If noone else is willing to throw in, or actually regardless of any outcome, i've offered to cover the bill. There was a slight issue with me getting my money back on time, but i'm now prepared to pay if still necessary..

if anyone else wants to throw in... that could be cool.

knuck: don't flatter yourself. you're accused of having been the spammer that nearly took CG out of comission earlier this year, via its boards. (note that "earlier this year" != "now"). even if you did, that doesn't make you responsible for the site's bill coming due- as would normally happen eventually anyway- many months later.

What was the link to the Panicus board? I always reached it through the main site...lol.

And post a paypal link or something. I'd be willing to donate a few bucks for the cause.

I'd like to see Challenge Games revive; the last news update is pretty much stale (over 3 months) and there's one hack in progress, not counting DD's hack (lest we forget he's part of C-G)...

...hell, it it all came down to it and I had a few spare internetdollars lying around, I'd donate... after all, if it wasn't for CG, I wouldn't be here today (though you can take that how you want as I know several of you hate my guts)

Besides, ChallengeGames made it into EGM, so that's pretty incredible right there

Hopefully when the whole issue of payment is sorted out, CG can start to come out of its dormant status. It's a group with a lot of history, so it's a shame to see it just rot. Although there seems to be a lot of rotting going on at all the ROM hacking groups these days.

I think it's safe to say that the whole ROM hacking community is going through a lean period.

Well I have nothing to offer, as payment or anything ...

But I've been going to CGC for nearly 5 years now, it's what linked me to this place, DES, probably Tek, and a lot of other sites out there.

Even though from what I"ve seen CGC is apparently slowing down, I still reguraly check the site for any kind of updates.

It's a great site and community that's been around for a very long time.

And Xk, you serious? I never knew they made it into EGM ... that is really awesome.

Hopefully all goes well.

Actually, I just noticed DES seems to be down too. One of those stupid ad sites, in fact.

I just mentioned them because eventually I found my way to that site in the past, through CGC.

Sorry, it takes a while to get updated way up here. Y'all still using steam engines down there?

I actually followed a link from somewhere... Forget where, I think either BMF's site or Google. So one of them needs to update.

They did, the magazine is one from around 1999-2001 and has "PS2" on the cover (in the lame PS2 logo style)

They just made it into a top-of-the-page blip, with a screenshot from what seems to be a SMB1 challenge game.

Actually that was Metriod Challenge. It also appears to have a screenshot of Strange Mario Bros. for some reason. I consulted the oracle at Google and found:
  • Page 1 of an article about fan translation. This is the page with the actual CG reference (at the top).
  • Page 2 of the article.
The reference mentions smb3c.darkmazda.com, which some of us will remember as CG's former address (it's at www.cg-games.net now... or was, as it seems).

I had written Strange Mario Brothers before that, but ditched it in favor of thinking it was another hack.

Again, that's how I found my way to here (being Acmlm's ROM Hack Domain) -- smb3.darkmazda.com was the URL I had used for a while, actually...

I guess Acmlm managed to get a hold of a copy of those pages and was probably impressed he made it into EGM (even if he was a top-of-the-page blip)... Other than Mario Adventure in Retro Gaming (a magizine I got one copy ofj ust to see it-- it rules) by a fan letter... I haven't seen much else about it in paper.

I wonder if any other ROM hakcs have made it into EGM. I'd be kind of suprised if Mario Adventure didn't...
