Winter meeting season, which means a whole lotta people are going to be making trades and there's gonna be juuuust a few signings.

For instance, David Wells is signing with the Red Sox. Could be as much as two years, $18 million. Yes, the same guy that wanted to blow up Fenway.

Phillies get Jon Lieber (aka, the only guy that could shut Boston down in the ALCS). Three years... $21 million? Great move if ya ask me.

Arthur Rhodes, who got traded to the Pirates in the Jason Kendall deal (along with Mark Redman), isn't long for Pittsburgh. He's headed to Cleveland for Matt Lawton.

Uh... discuss?

Wells going to play for Boston, I wonder what Boston thinks of this?

Phillies gettinh Jon Lieber should help them...I don't think anyone was a force in Philadelphia's starting rotation

Arthur Rhodes, didn't this guy have issues when he was in Oakland. I don't think heading to Cleveland will do him good...but I'll have to see...

So Pedro's goin' to the Mets for 4 years, 50 million. I guess he figures however much more money they were giving them compared to what Boston was going to give him is enough money to deal with the feeling of missing the playoffs for the next four years.

"Expos" have made some f'n weird signings this offseason so far. Regardless of what happens with the team this month, next season should be tremendous.

Wow, the Mets slap both the Yankees and the Sox right in the face. I love it but then again I have a lot of respect for Pedro and it's not like he's getting super-high salary numbers. (Still way too high, mind you, but it's not $20m/year or anything like that.)

I'm wondering whether Carlos Beltran will FIND a team willing to take his salary by April.

Pretty soon, I think Beltran'll either fire Boras or find some sap that'll pay that much. I'm betting on the former.

What, Wil Cordero doesn't do it for ya, Colleen?

Pedro (4 years, $56 mil)... well, I can understand. They wanted to get the pub, the Red Sox weren't willing to give him four years (which they shouldn't do, really) and Pedro's just looking for his best interests. Will his arm fall off at some point this season? Probably. During the contract? How you say... mos def?

And Kris Benson: Wait until I work for the Mets before you cheat on your wife. Pease? ;D

Lemme guess, he can't afford to feed his family? Amazing how expensive it is to live in this country in this day and age...

Many teams were active in the hot stove talks this winter... I sense a good season coming up.

And speaking of HOT stoves... it looks like the move to D.C. is DOWN, and MLB's in a really bad scenario now. Their choices:

- Play in D.C. next year while looking for a new home. Odds of happening: Personally, I think slim given the fact they've already said that season ticket holders can get refunds right now... and I dunno how good the crowds would be.
- Play in another city temporarily next year. Odds of happening: Possible, depends if there's a suitable stadium and if a deal can be reached by April.
- Play in Montreal next year. Odds of happening: Iffy. The Expos' PR guys are saying the odds of that are non-existent, but if option A and option B can't go through, it's not like there'd be much choice...

I would like to say that it seems that the Expos are DONE on the free agent market with all this going on, though.

Tim Hudson: STILL not a Red Sox (singular). But guess who is?

Edgar Renteria. 4/$40 million. Not bad, really. Maybe they don't think Hanley's gonna be the guy at SS?

Oh, uh, yeah, that too. Braves traded for Hudson... gave up Juan Cruz and two other players. Not Marcus Giles, mind you. Good move on their part, if ya ask me. So who's gonna play 2B for Oakland? Why, Keith Ginter, of course! They traded two minor leaguers to Milwaukee for him.

All sides agree in principle, the Yankees will get Randy Johnson.

Yankees get Unit from D'backs.

Dodgers get Javier Vasquez, Dioner Navarro, and Eric Duncan from Yankees.

D'backs get Brad Penny, Yhency Brazoban, and Shawn Green from Dodgers.

The deal is not finalized, but is expected to follow through.

Uncle fuckers. I think ESPNews had someone from a paper in Arizona saying there's a chance Randy'll change his mind, considering recent acquisitions. But still, feh.

Oh, and Seattle may not be teh s uck next season. Richie Sexson (4/$48?) and Adrian Beltre (5/$64) will be their new corner infielders. Ka-ching.

They just need the Unit and Green to waive their no-trade clauses, and sources expect that should happen without too much fuss.

Nintendo just became majority owners of the Mariners, no? Nice to see all that cash being thrown around.
