Im hoping to pick it up today...if I dont i will surly cry
The whole card battle isnt super exciting for me, whats really drawing me into this game is just the fact that its more Kingdom Hearts! and there are actual cut scenes in a GBA game, thats crazy!

SOME places released it today.

Most (like EB) apparently didn't and were insisting that the release date is tomorrow.

Bah. I'm sure it'll be out then, can't see why there'd be a delay...

That may very well explain the 256Mbit filesize...but I somehow doubt the cutscenes are very visual...maybe something like the new Donkey Kong game on the same console where it shows a 'cutscene'...yea...

I haven't looked at the Jap one...the Eng on is still not out yet...which surprises me because usually there's a large line and a half for people to have something of this caliber available way before anything else.

Wrong. Wrong. Wrong!
The cutscenes were created like normal PS2 cut scenes and then pixelated...its just like those new carts that let you watch TV shows on your GBA. Ive played the Jap. rom and I can tell you all that it looks fantastic.

My Gamestop didnt have it yesterday...they said it would in Today....I cried hopefully ill get it today.

Yea, the whole deal was that the KH: Chain of Mem were suppose to be in yesterday, via FedEx. They never delivered the shipment (along with Mario Party 6) until today.

We got in a lot...and I mean A LOT of copies in.

I'm saying I doubt it until I see it Sion...that's all...not like I've read a lot of back stuff to it either. And it would explain the LARGE filesize.

Woohoo, KH 1 1/2!

I'm still a bit fuzzy on exactly how the card fighting system works.... someone mind clearing that up for me? I don't see how a card battle system would work in real time action, which is what I assumed the game was gonna be.

In any case, I'll pick it up just so I can see what happens between KH and KH2. I've been waiting a long time since Deep Dive.

How can I explain it after only spending 45 minutes with the game... OK.

The battles take place in real time, and you can move around/jump to avoid enemy attacks. You create a deck of cards which are used in battle. Most cards will likely be Skeleton Key cards, which are basic attacks - but you can only use as many as you have in the deck. Then you have your typical magic cards, healing cards and the like. Now, obviously you'll run out of cards eventually, but you can reload them when necessary. Some cards can only be picked up in battle (like Donald/Goofy cards) then vanish after you use them; most stay in your inventory. You can also stack sets of 2/3 cards for combos - for example, you can stack two Cure cards to cast Cura. You can also execute special attacks with combos, although if you do so you'll lose one of the cards in the combo for the duration of the battle.

It's a little easier to get the hang of in the game, but for the most part you'll be fine in the early going. I definitely think that things are going to get a LOT more complex later on though.

EDIT: Oh yeah... almost forgot to talk about the decks themselves. You can't stack a deck with the best possible cards, at least not right away. You have a max CP (Card Point) stat that can be increased with levelling. Each card has a CP value. The total value of the cards in your deck cannot exceed your CP value. So if your CP is at 300, you can have as many cards as you want in your deck as long as the total value of the cards is equal to or less than 300.

I'm a GOOD ways into it now, but I'll give you an idea of what the battle system is like:

What's displayed is the first twelve cards that I'm currently using in my deck (with maximum CP usage) which are all attack cards (otherwise denoted by the red color attribute). You're also given magic cards, item cards, and enemy cards once you beat them. You can put any number of cards in your deck as long as you don't go higher than the CP you're allocated. You can fix yourself with more CP once you level up (you have a choice of higher HP (+15), higher CP (+25), and the possible option of a new Sleight technique which is a keyblade technique. Those Sleight techniques require a combination of cards during gameplay (3 cards with L+R pressed and then L+R to release the technique) and a specific combination for each additional technique. Suppose you have two Fire cards, you can combine them and something else for the technique Fira plus whatever other card you stocked. If you wanted Firaga, you'd stock three Fires. This works with all magic and all summons and attacks (which either make a sleight or a fast combo attack).

So you might wonder how the gameplay works, it's similar to you running around like you did in Kingdom Hearts, except you're on a 2D limited plain and the cards you select are what you attack with, you can do a straight line of attacks three times, combo finisher ending it. I'm not sure if you can boost this like you could in KH with air and ground combo plus but I'm at Lv. 29 as it is now and it hasn't really been a problem.

Some might wonder about the number on the cards as well. The cards are number 0-9 (1 low, 9 high, 0 above all) and are very important for how you attack through the game. Let's make an example out of the number 7 Kingdom Premium card key I have on the bottom left of the cards I have displayed there. If an enemy tries to attack me with something lower than the number of the card it's attack is negated and I'm designated time for a free hit based on how well the recovery is for an enemy's card. If the enemy has a card 8 or higher and I try attacking it my attack is negated and I'm stunned for an amount of time based on my recovery. If both are the same, both players are stunned. This concept is called a Card Break and it's a very important thing in the game. You can find out recovery, attack power, and other things about a card by looking at the attack cards you find throughout the game in the card screen here or in Jiminy's Journal (yes, that exists here too). Also, for the higher numbered card you have in a certain attack, magic, item, or enemy card the more CP you have to pay for it to have it in your deck. However you can also get what is called a premium card, which cost less than what a 1 number card costs but you can only use the card once during battle.

Oh...and speaking of that...if you're worried about running out of cards in battle...you can 'call the cards' back by choosing a black number card that's in your deck from the start of battle and charging the A button to get your full set back. There are exceptions, such as sleights and premiums. Premiums, as I said, can't be used more than one time per battle and they're history. Stocked attacks for sleights kill a card after they're used, so it's important not to go nuts with using sleights or else you'll find yourself out of cards and then you're in serious trouble.

Also...almost forgot...once you beat a normal battle, you're given a Room Synthesis card before you go. There's a basic map overlay of each room in a world but -you- choose what each room will contain based on the cards it asks for. You can only get to a room if you game what cards it asks for, which is how you progress through the worlds. You need to use three key cards correctly through each world and you're given one of them at the beginning (the Beginnings Key card) and you need to navigate around the world to continue with the story killing monsters, getting treasure, and finding moogle shops as you go with whatever cards you put in for Room Synth.

So far I've liked what I've been seeing, and yea there are cutscenes, but they're lacking voice acting and they're relatively short. I've seen two so far...one at the beginning and one just before where I'm at now. The storyline's been pretty interesting too since I've started although if you haven't played the original beforehand, you might be lost...which will probably be the case for those wanting to pick up this and Kingdom Hearts 2...you'll be lost if you haven't played the original. But I killed HOURS on this tonight and got really far and I'm liking what I'm seeing, as said.

EDIT: OMG! This game is so fucking hard towards the end so far...I have never seen such crap at times...but at the same time I can easily mow down enemies as long as sleights don't come into play and I don't have to crush them with a 0-card. Yea...they can use sleights too...and it gets really really scary.

Eep. I checked for info regarding an Aussie release too and got nowhere.

Oh, and once the bosses start using sleights... FUN. *rubs bruises*

I need game.

Heh, there's no international weirdness with GBA games like there is with PS2 games (by that I mean PAL/NTSC) is there?

What I mean is... if I were to get a US copy of the game, it'd work on my GBA...?

..need...game...

Stoked.

Now I just have to work out how much it's gonna cost me to get it... I sure hope it's not prohibitively expensive to get it from elsewhere....

Dark Riku, fourth battle. Anyone who beats this, tell me. I don't really think this is possible with as many sleights as he's doing with 'Dark Aura'.
