Woo yeah Break Down! One of my favorite 9 footers, and the second one I actually passed. First was Can't Stop Fallin' In Love Speed Mix. Can you do that one, EE?

Hehe, with the rate you're going at I almost feel like I'm competing with you to get more 9s under my belt...

CSFILSM isn't in MAX2...I don't think it's in MAX either. This is PS2.

I find it somewhat more impressive with Grey's improvement on arcade.

I mean, I used to think that passing 9 footers on X-Box was fun and all. But too easy. The console games are simply too easy.

Hiryuu is correct, though there's a non-speed mix in MAX2 for PS2, and I believe the speed mix is in Extreme (Though I don't know for sure, not owning it).

I should note that actually owning and playing the console games every day, I have somewhat of an advantage in that department. Actually getting advanced concepts ((&*^*&^*&^ spins *(&(&*()&*() down to a point that I can do them confidently (As opposed to fumbling my way through those sections without using the correct technique) will probably take awhile, though.

Errm, so...Mario Mix. Anyone have it/play it yet? Just curious.

I'd hoped to get it this morning, but according to what I found out from my phone call to EB Games, Nintendo is using a different distributor than the store here does, and as such, they don't have it in yet As things stand now, I hope to have it by the end of the week. The person on the phone said she'd put my name on one when they arrive, and will give me a call to let me know it's in, so things should work out. When it comes to it seeming too easy, I myself think of that as a good thing I've played several more of the easier songs I've got than normal recently, just to see what they're like and to think about what it'd be like to play them using a pad, and a few of them seem like they would be pretty difficult. The one that comes to mind is the beginning part of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow".

Anyways, as for results, I worked up a frames page for them over the weekend, that I think looks a bit more organized, but I still kept the old one that's simply text in and outside of a table. Right now, the frames version can be found here, and the non-frames version can be found here. Note that I've tried my best to make sure that anything I add in the frames page gets added to the non-frames version as well, but there is a possibility that I forgot one or two songs. If that's the case, sorry.

As for mentionable results, Mind Parasite comes to mind. I'm surprised I managed to get an A on it, seeing as I was blindly hitting arrows at the end of the song Maximizer is the only other one I can think of right now, and that's because previously when I tried the song, I either got a C, or didn't even manage to finish it. Managing to get a B is as good as anything right now

I did bring my hard drive in today, so provided I get a chance to hook it up, I'll be able to try Battle AX (as well as the other two new simfiles) tonight. As usual, that's it for now.

Had a great arcade run. Despite being tired from overplaying Ex2 at home, I saw an immense improve in my arcade skills.

I bagged a couple of new AA's.

Kiss Kiss Kiss (hard 8 footer).
Colors (Oni)
Paranoia Rebirth

I also full combo'd Witch Doctor and got 1 Boo (rest Great/Perf, about 60 Greats) on Fantasy (the 9 footer one).

So all in all I've improved quite a bit. Next time I go I should be completely rested and ready to totally own Sakura (trying to AA it).

It seems too easy for Hiryuu. :\ He did grade the two hardest videos (IMO) that I sent him in the 7 range, and those were at Very Hard difficulty - there's also Super Hard. My guess is that if you're just starting out at DDR on a pad (like me) or aren't a very skilled player, you'll be satisfied with the challenge level.

Mario Mix was shipped today. Everyone knows that shipped != in stores. :\ I checked Future Shop today to see if they had it but no luck.

So does it not use the typical "foot" difficulty level or what? I'm a bit confused.

As mentioned above, right now I'm at the "pass [most] 9-foot songs through sheer force of will" phase. I guess the next step would be passing the remainder of the 9s I can't do just yet, and then work on actually properly doing turns/spins/what-have-you (Though I did get an A on My Summer Love on DDRMAX for PS2, but this had none of those things in it) so I can truly pwn said 9-footers.

Stupid question, but will there be a option to acquire just the game with no pad? As I see it, I may be able to save a bit of money if I decide to pick it up by getting a game and some sort of PS2/GC converter, or something.

I don't think it displays feet unless they made a change to the North American version. The difficulties are Beginner, Normal, Hard, Very Hard and Super Hard.

So I wonder if that means all songs have 5 step charts or if difficulty just means more access to more songs/step charts. Also, I wonder if doubles mode is in it.

If doubles mode is what I think it is (playing with two pads as opposed to one), then I'd honestly have to say I don't think it will be As pretty much anyone that wants the game should know by now, it comes with a pad, and it wouldn't be very practical to have to buy another copy of the game to get a second pad. I highly doubt that would ever be the case though, as Nintendo could certainly start selling pads alone, and / or third party companies (MadCatz comes to mind) could make pads as well. Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if they already have plans to do so

Also, from what I've read, this game isn't exactly the same as the other ones are. Given that, while some of the other DDR games may have doubles mode, Mario Mix very well might not.

I'm not trying to say that you're wrong and I'm right or anything like that. The above are simply my opinions

Anyways, I was able to take Battle AX home last night, and I gave it a few tries. The first three times, I finished with a B. On the fourth try, I managed to get an A. Since I only saved that one screenshot last night, I put it on a disk this morning, so it can be seen here for the time being. I still plan on adding it to my lists when I get a chance, but it still can't hurt to have uploaded that picture.

As for the other simfiles, I don't know how, but I forgot to download Orochi's Team Theme yesterday, so with luck, I'll be able to give it a try tomorrow night. I did have True Area 53 (or whatever the name is) a try, both on Heavy and Challenge. Heavy, I managed to get a B on, but I couldn't pass Challenge. The area right near the beginning of the song where the double arrows start appearing always kills me My brother, on the other hand, simply saw that simfile as "a new Sonic song to play", and chose Challenge right away. I was out in the kitchen washing the dishes at the time, but I heard him gasping

Now, once again, I've been writing this post on and off for nearly two hours, so I think it's time to click the "Submit reply" button

Now that I think about it, being "easier" than other DDR mixes might not be a bad thing for Mario Mix. I hate to sound like your typical "LOLZ KIDDY NINTENDOZE!!1!1!" Internet pundit, but I do have a feeling that the audience they're going for here may not necessarily be the hardcore DDR audience (I don't know that I'd consider myself "hardcore" by any means, but my feelings are that I already have two games and two pads for PS2..do I REALLY need yet ANOTHER game AND mat for another system?).

I figure you'll see 3rd-party mats before too long, but unless there are plans for more DDR GCN games (Or games of that ilk), I'm not sure it'd be worth Nintendo's while to sell them seperately from the game itself.

Yea, poor guy probably didn't get what a 13 was. :\

Oh, anyone recall HELL SCAPER -TOUKKANKOUJI mix-?

I have the full version of that sitting on here now. 2:48, the additions are hell. I can foresee me re-simming this in the future. 12 easy. Just like the original...maybe more.

There's no doubles mode but I can't see many people complaining about that.

I'm sure some hardcore DDR fans will get the game but it'll likely be marketed for three groups; kids (since the steps are easy and they don't NEED to play Super Hard), Mario fans (some will buy...) and DDR rookies/inexperienced players who will probably find the challenge level just right.

Well I finally did it, got my first and second AAAs in the same night.

http://www.stepmaniaonline.com/index.php?mod=Stepmania+Online&id=12892&round=902610

Also on Nov.5 my local arcade is having an In the groove tournament, im definitely going to enter seeing as its been my obsession for the last 2-3 months. Although Ive heard there are many hardcore players (one of which Ive seen, guy thinks nothing of 11s and 12s) coming. I highly doubt too many of you are in the Harrisburg area but if you are and are interested in coming/signing up drop me a PM.

I really need to find a DDR machine, considering I played the home version for a few weeks and from there on spent all my time playing on an ITG2 dedicated cabinet.

ITG tourney...owch...godforbid they go all out.

Have people doing Pandemonium Expert like crazy.

And not bad AAAs but for a 7 and a 6 you still need to work on your MA (Marvelous Accuracy). DD and I could probably hit under 10 perfects with each of those. I've hit under 10 with A Oni. So...work on that accuracy. Not bad regardless, though.

I have a feeling he does know that the higher those numbers are, the harder the song will be, as I've already explained that to him a couple times. What he doesn't always realize is that even though a given song might seem extremely hard on Challenge or Heavy, there just may be easier difficulties. There's an oxymoron for you

Now, I was able to get DDR: Mario Mix this morning. I got a call from EB Games last night saying it was in, but since I had to go to the bank to get the money to pay for it, and they were closed, I had to wait. I'm up to the third world, but more specifically, I just beat the hammer brothers to get inside the amusement park. So far, the game seems to be somewhat challenging (once again, this is the first time I've ever played using a pad), but I've yet to play a song that's really challenging. Of course, I'm playing on Easy right now Interestingly enough, all the songs I've played so far have only had left and right arrows in them I assume the up and down arrows will come into play on higher difficulties, but right now, they seem to be used for the minigames ,and nothing else.

As for how I'm doing result-wise in the game, I got a D on the very first song, a C from the one after that, then a B, and then more of the previous I've yet to get an A, although I have the feeling that you can't get any Early, Late, or Miss.

Next, a question about StepMania that's been on my mind for a while, but I kept forgetting to ask. On the song selection screen, do the different colors of the song titles mean anything in particular? At first I thought it had something to do with the difficulty of the song, such as any song over a 10 being red, but upon checking various other songs, I saw that wasn't the case. I also thought the BPM of whatever song might have something to do with that, but it seems that assumption is wrong as well. As of right now, it seems that the color change is merely cosmetic

I didn't play StepMania a whole lot yesterday evening, as I finally figured out what to do on Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, so I was busy with that most of the night, so I have nothing to mention there. For now, that's about it.
