Franky Gee Near Death
News Source: German News Service "B.L."
Posted by Reenee on Friday 21st October 2005 04:07:01 BST

It is with great regret that I inform the DDR community that Franky Gee a.k.a. Captain Jack has collapsed at a recent party and fallen into a coma. His brain is bleeding and doctors inform that he has barely any chance to live. It appears to be due to a cardiac infraction but according to the sources' iffy translation from Babelfish, I may be mistaken (I will append if someone can translate the article directly).

UPDATE: (Myst): Once again it is with great sadness and regret the the update is that Franky Gee passed away today aged 43.

Quote: Palma de Mallorca. Francisco Guterrez aka "Captain Jack" ("Drill Instructor") died at the age of 43. The good-mood singer (sold seven million records) already collapsed on monday at a party in Palma de Mallorca. He was taken to the hospital "Juaneda" with the suspicion of stroke. The doctors had already lost all hope. In the night to friday he has fallen into eternal sleep without ever regaining his consciousness, according to his ex-wife Daniela Schaefer.

Legend just passed today.

I'll also A In The Navy '99 and Little Boy (Boy on Boy Mix) JUST FOR HIM. And Dream a Dream if I can find it.

They were all such great songs... Even Little Boy...

Yeah, I AAed Dream a Dream for him (This was new for me), as well as Aing In the Navy (This was not...is it strange that where I break my combos isn't usually in the galloping sections, but in the "we want you!" part?).

Yeah.

Wow.

In the world of DDR, few things are more demoralizing than failing a 9-foot song on the LAST FUCKING STEP (1). *sigh*

(1)- Given the way the "life" system of DDR works, as well as the fact that I definitely hit the last step (My roomie was here and watching me play, and said as much), I'm going to presume that my actual Point of FKitten Yiffer was slightly before the actual final step of the song. This does little to lessen my disappointment, though, and I consider it a technicality.

On the plus side, I seem to be getting better at turning my body, which is definitely a plus. I guess the next big thing is getting comfortable with "circle" steps (You know, up-right-down-left in quick succession as an example).

Yes, doing "spins" (any step pattern that forces you to do a complete 360 turn around) takes a LOT of practice. Once you face away from the screen it can get very disorienting. After spins there's a few other step patterns you should work on:

Left Up Right Left Down Right (aka Afronova runs, these can be done without changing your footing)
variatons of this include:
Left Down Right Left Up
Right Up Left Right Down Left
Right Down Left Right Up Left

Then you should finally work on 270 degree turns, that is:

Left Down Right Up right Down Left
variations inlude
Right Down Left Up Left Down Right
Left Up Right Down Right Up Left
Right Up Left Down Left Up Right

These are by far the hardest to master in my opinion, as most people do spins then when they encounter these, they want to keep spinning but later relize they're screwing up real bad.

And on a side note: Just did Paranoia Survivor on Ex 2 TWICE in a row. I have movies of both attempts (one front view, one side view). Obviously my second time wasn't nearly as good as the first, but my first time (in this session that is, I passed it a few days ago) I got an A with about 81 mill score, with around 15 Good/Boo/Alost with the rest Marv/Perf/Great. Needless to say, it HURTS.

As soon as I can get some space, I'll try to upload these movies (they're 31 MB a piece, if I could get something that decoded MOV files and converted them to straight AVI, I could compress then with RAR like crazy.)

I've only managed to pull off a spin once...and that was only on Sync standard.

Might be late again this week or non-existant for simming. I have stuff in mind, it's just I've been working practically non-stop for this move.

I know I'm a bit late, but the day I got back into DDR, I heard the news about Captain Jack. My entire college DDR community is mourning right now.

I played Dream A Dream twice that day...

I was about ready to sim the actual Captain Jack, because of all of this and the fact I have his first album (The Mission), but I'm still backed up from moving again. I wouldn't be surprised if I skip this week too.

Though, I did pass around files for Captain Jack last night. Grey and Ziff could tell you more. I think Ziff went nuts over the fact that Take Me On was covered by them.

Oh...by the by...I AA'd air on pad but...

...I also pulled off all of the crossovers and the two freeze-spins. Flawless.

EDIT: Tried PSMO again with watchers on 1.5x just for the hell of it again...I did better.

PERFECT 136
GREAT 63
GOOD 12
BOO 8
MISS 394 (gave up after 40 seconds or so)
OK 0
MAX COMBO 44

SCORE 1900353 (EX2)

I still have a long way to go.

So, anyone have any tips/songs/whatever for helping go from jump to jump quickly? Near the end of Maxx Unlimited Standard is a prime example of what I mean.

ALSO: Woo, passing more 9-footers...Tsugaru and Breakdown (BARELY, to the point that I think it was karma making up for my last-step fKitten Yiffer of Exotic Ethnic yesterday).

MAXX Unlimited's end there really isn't any shortcut to. You have to have the stamina to hit all of the jumps. Not only that, but you also have to keep alive for the intense ending that is harder than the rest of the file, in my opinion.

It's basically a matter of stamina training, and that's a good file to do so. Multiple jump reading is essential for some of the harder files later on in Heavy. Probably not as much as this file, but pretty close regardless. I still can't AA that shit.

Arch your back and bend your knees. This will allow you to jump much faster than normally. It doesn't help on stamina but it's the best way to nail quick jumps. It takes a lot of practice though (it took me a year and a half to be able to do quick jumps, my main practice was LoM Standard).

At any rate, I finally got all the songs on Ex2. I got to PSM on E and I'm scared to do it. I know I can pass it with an A, but after doing PS twice yesterday back to back and Aing it both times, my legs are a bit shot still. Playing in mesh or sweat pants makes this 10x easier than doing it in jeans.

Crossover city, plus a few spins. Mainly made for pad. No better than an 8 on Heavy but it is slow so it is high in chaos.

Okay, so that's #99...
