Absolute slowest, I can pass bag-like songs with an A/AA. Hurts my eyes otherwise.

I got too used to C500/512. I should probably go higher too, considering 550 is pretty standard for C-modding.

In all fairness though, if I didn't use C500/512, I'd probably just use multipliers that fit my fancy to clock the speed around 400-600 BPM.

Anything above 600 is absolutely ludicrous for me.

And you say that mrmenz...what can you pass anyways?

I haven't really messed with many of the mods too much, except the one to change the music speed. I like listening to Owaranai Yume at 1.6x or higher, as it sounds neat when the voices get high-pitched. My best score on that song at 2.0 on Heavy is a B, I think Super Shooter is also fun to play on faster music speeds. I can get up to 1.5 and still get an A at the end, but that's as high as I can go right now. As for the C-mods, I think the highest / lowest I've gone in both directions is about 3 (so on the options menu, that'd be 3 to the left or right from the default setting). I actually haven't looked into custom modifiers at all though. I don't know if that makes a difference in the end, but it can't hurt to give it a mention.

Now, here's a question that I was wondering about last night. In the Techno Fiend 3 theme (I don't know if it appears in others) does the "Portal" option on the song selection menu do anything other than pick a random song? I thought it would do that, and also turn some random modifers on, but it doesn't appear to. As of right now, all I can see it being is a copy of the random selection, except without locking you into that song

Anyways, I played StepMania quite a bit last night, as Geneforge 3 was getting on my nerves and I didn't want to play any other games, so I've got 7 result screens to show today

:: Super Mario Bros. Dirty Mix, Heavy
:: Headache, Heavy
:: Love is Orange, Heavy
:: Lower World, Heavy
:: Murmur Twins, Heavy
:: 20000000000, Heavy
:: MAX 300, Heavy

I've got a nagging feeling that I already posted a screenshot of Lower World in this thread, but upon checking the screenshot folder at home, there was only one All on Heavy difficulty, as you can see, but I blame that on both the songs that have a Challenge difficulty for being too hard, and me for not being good enough to do them right now. Only one "B" out of all of those though, so that's pretty good

As for what was said about Bike Chase a little while back (thing ranges from 110-666BPM), I'm beginning to realize just what that may be like. The only song I've got that I can think of off the top of my head that's like that is In the Groove Megamix. The slowest it gets is 69BPM, and in the final part of the song, it gets up to ~330BPM It's "rated" 14 (I don't know what exactly you'd call it), which makes it the most difficult song I can make it through. To think Bike Chase is even harder than that

@ Hiryuu: Well, I'd make up for the crappy pad by just playing workout mode where apparently you can't "fail" a song even if the options (In MAX2) are set up properly, seeing as getting in decent shape is a big reason I bought all the stuff in the first place. Nonetheless, having a pad where I don't have to wrestle with the right arrow is a godsend. And it's a little heavier too, meaning it doesn't slide around as much on my rug....always a plus.

As for mods and things, I have them all off, I think. I'm not particularly good yet--right now some of the easier 7-footers are about the limit of what I can pass--but I do feel myself improving, and more importantly, my endurance and such is increasing too (Though I end up a sweaty mess when all is said and done).

Sweating is good! Shows you're properly hydrated. Just be sure you continue to drink plenty of water. I don't do work out mode because it doesn't give you a grade, so the fun of it is kind of taken away. Workout mode that still showed your skill performance would rule all! But if you're looking for serious weight loss, have some extra cash and a local DDR machine, then learn to do doubles. Doubles play burns many more calories than singles becuase you're doing actual physical work. Singles is mostly pivetal work and doesn't require near as much energy as doubles. But the downside to doubles is that it's a lot harder to do and costs more, but the pay off is that it attracts a bigger crowd, it actually improves your singles game (endurance increases dramatically) and of course, a better exercise.

As for that, I wasn't especially good at soft once I grabbed my pad in December, so I wasn't doing more than that myself, maybe less.

Anymore, though, I'm peaking at most 9-footers (most, not all) and I've been able to take down the easiest 10-footers.

Well yesterday I only had time to play a few songs, I didnt try too much on C800 because its been a long time, and I wasn't able to pass anything of being noteworthy but here are a few shots.

Explosive C800 (May be the hardest song I can pass on C800)
Explosive on C600 Of course I'm much more comfortable with this speed.
Tamayura C600

I'll get some more of better scores today, since I'll have more time to play. Like I said I can pass some songs on C800 but my timing for it is pretty poor.

Anything past C700 is pretty silly to play on. I may know one person that does C701 constantly and that's about it. Most people won't play any higher than 700.

Most people swear by 'you must do 600 and no less'. I find that bull, but it just depends on what you're used to and what you're doing. On some songs, you might just need it (most tough 11-footers and beyond with exceptional streams). Karadur, for instance, uses no mods EXCEPT Note. I probably wouldn't do nearly as good without a speed mod (in fact, I'd probably be right on par with him, in actuality).

I could never play without any mods unless I was on a pad, and Ive only been padding for a few weeks now. I often wondered if there was any particular skill difference between people who used no mods or slower ones and those who did but got the same scores.

Either way Im going to try out slower mods until my timing is good on them, just so I have the ability.

So wait, what do "C800" and "C600" and what not actually mean when compared to normal speed? I don't actually have Stepmania on this comp. So confused (Which is nothing new for me posting in this topic).

C-mods are exclusive to Stepmania. They don't exist in DDR (that I know of). What they do is they keep the speed CONSTANT. That means that breaks, slowdowns, speedups, they're all negated and played at a constant speed instead. The steps are still the same and you have to press them like you would without mods, but it's always in one constant speed.

C400, for example, would play a song like one that was being played at 400BPM on 1x normally (think Afronova on 2x). C### is constant whatever number BPM.

Ah, okay. This would explain my ignorance, certainly. I presume it's more for keyboard players than pad ones.

ALSO: Hmm, now my second pad is kind of acting up, though this may be my imagination. I'll find out more tomorrow.

Incidentally, what's the best way to store a foam pad when you're not using it? Lay it flat as though you were going to use it? Put it on its side (I'm thinking this is the wrong answer)? Or just dismantle it until the next time you use it?

Flat is really the best way, but it's VERY impractical, and so is disassembling it, so sideways :\

Ah well, I can Toasty Heavy myself.

Anyways...I'm not finished yet this week it seems.

EDIT: And I guess a few screens will suffice:

HV RMX - Challenge
HV RMX - Heavy
R.O.D - Heavy

Woo, go go pad acting up. Though it's not as bad as the first one.

So in other words, I should only be storing the pads sideways if I don't have any other practical option? I don't now, but maybe tomorrow once I go back to college.

ALSO: Is there a way I can purchase just the foam inserts? Maybe another high-density 1" insert in my other pad will solve everything, though I doubt it. If nothing else, it'll make my trying to play doubles (Which I'm NOT good at) a bit easier since it'll be the same "feeling" on both pads.

Like I said, I've only gotten 2 Toasty's before, counting the HV one. I play with one hand on the keyboard, and I was just happy I got the second Toasty that quickly.
