Stepmania Questions... Ok, I ask you, the gods of stepmania to ask these questions for me 1. What is the criteria to get the "Extra Stage"? Is it all 3 songs on AA? Does it matter what difficulty you're on? 2. How does the Unlockable system work? I've switched it on but I think all the songs are accessable? 3. I was playing Nonstop mode the other day and reached about 400 combos when I saw this Anime character appear on the Right of the screen and shout "Toasty!!!" (like in MK2). How do you get this? I've had that high a combo since and not seen it again, and does it trigger a cheat. 4. How does Magic Dance mode work, do the attacks trigger automatically when you reach the threshold between levels? 5. Do Bemanistyle.com do any bumper packs (torrents?) Is there anywhere that provides original stepfile Bumper packs? 6. Where can I download themes, skins, announcers and additional characters for Stepmania? 7. How can you write lyrics for songs? I've tried editing a "lrc" file which seems to contain the lyrics, and copying it to another song, but it doesn't seem to work. |

Originally posted by Uncle Elmo Alrighty then. 1. You just have to AA the last song on heavy. If you AA the extra stage then you get extra super lolicon stage or something. I can't quite remember. But it has to do with extras and stages. I don't know if super lolicon factors in there. 2. Yeah, they're all accessible if ya got it on. 3. Good for you, you got that because you got more than 250 perfects in a row. Pat yourself on the back. 4. It's all based on score...and not having fun. 5. No, but I believe Havoks.com and ddruk.com have them. 6. Bemanistyle, havoks.com and ddruk.com all have character and theme packs. 7. Beats me, there is probably a thread on it on the ddrfreak.com message boards (which I caution you from reading...you'll have to wade through morons) |

1. Yeah, you have to AA the last stage on Heavy (in Extreme US, the other criteria is that it has to be at least an 8-footer to earn ES). If you somehow manage to AA the Extra Stage (which takes a freak of nature to do - a MAX song on 1.5, Reverse (and sometimes Dark)? Crazy), you'll earn the One More Extra Stage (known to consoles as Encore Extra Stage). OMES is 3x and some mods, and sudden death. You basically have to AA OMES. Oh, Stepmania...yeah, on Stepmania, the OMES, I guess, is activated by a AA on the song that is selected (instead of LoM, my SM program selects PSMO...) 2. If the unlockable system is on, then there shouldn't be all the songs there. Isn't that kinda self-explanatory? 3. I've never gotten a toasty before...my PA is so horrid... 4. Magic Dance? Oh yeah, basically, you're trying to make your opponent fail. 5. BMS is down anyway (hardware problems), and even though I got my simfiles from Havoks, some of the files are bad (I couldn't get Cartoon Heroes, CSFILSM or Electro Tuned for that reason). I would try DDRUK. 6. I never bother with characters - they distract me too much. 7. DDRFreak has a link to animelyrics.com, which has lyrics for a lot of DDR songs. However, I have yet to see lyrics for Orion .78... |

1. What is the criteria to get the "Extra Stage"? Is it all 3 songs on AA? Does it matter what difficulty you're on? Last song on Heavy or Challenge must be AA'd. This must not be on event mode, otherwise, you won't be able to use the extra stage. Extra stages are usually a specific song in a pack and always 1.5x, Reverse, Dark. If you succeed in AAing the extra stage, encore extra stage becomes available. 2. How does the Unlockable system work? I've switched it on but I think all the songs are accessable? All songs, by default, are accessible. In order for the unlock system to work I believe you have to do a writeup INI file for it to work properly. It doesn't work on its own. I would get up a topic from BMS on how to do it but it's currently down and the process for unlocking ALL songs in terms of you writing a file out could very well get tedious. It's best just to stay away from this altogether. 3. I was playing Nonstop mode the other day and reached about 400 combos when I saw this Anime character appear on the Right of the screen and shout "Toasty!!!" (like in MK2). How do you get this? I've had that high a combo since and not seen it again, and does it trigger a cheat. 250 straight perfects/marvelouses. Every time you do that, you toasty (although, this is only shown once per song). For instance, my best run of 2MB Megamix Heavy has 6 toasties in a full combo of 2098, so 1500 of those, probably unconsecutively, were straight perfects/marvelouses at 250. 4. How does Magic Dance mode work, do the attacks trigger automatically when you reach the threshold between levels? As far as I know they do. Not the best 2P game, I'll give it that. 5. Do Bemanistyle.com do any bumper packs (torrents?) Is there anywhere that provides original stepfile Bumper packs? BMS provides FAN-MADE simfile packs (and some that are themes and skins, etc.). I may submit some myself and pride myself on getting a few made up just like DD here, but it's really a download at your own risk setting. I would be surprised if half of the sims were any good and maybe a good 5% of them would be worthy of an 8 rating or above in my book. I'm VERY picky about files and for good reason, I make them; I better damn well know what a good file is. DDR:UK and other places like it still offer OFFICIAL bumper packs. Though I believe Shuey's simfile museum on the same site doesn't necessarily have the official steps, they're also fan made. Btb, get Bantu Originals. 6. Where can I download themes, skins, announcers and additional characters for Stepmania? This I'm kinda clueless on except to Google for it. I had some site but I really can't express more than Techno Fiend 3: Eternity which you can find on BMS (which is currently down). 7. How can you write lyrics for songs? I've tried editing a "lrc" file which seems to contain the lyrics, and copying it to another song, but it doesn't seem to work. As far as I know, most lyric files put lyrics in at a specific time, so you might have issues with timing, for starters. Second, I believe that the SM file needs to have a lyrics path added to it in one of the lines. I'm not sure what exactly since I don't have my comp to show right now, but I know it's in a line. After doing a bit of searching, I came across what seems like a guide dealing with writing .lrc files, which can be found here. The directions make it seem like the whole process would take a decent amount of time, but it's worth a look if you're serious about creating those files No new screenshots to show today, as the best results I got over the weekend were lower scores than my overall bests It felt quite weird playing the game again though, seeing as I haven't touched it for a while. It almost seemed easier than normal for about 10 minutes or so after I started. I'm referring to songs that I find difficult right now, seeming easier than normal, when I hadn't played the game in couple days With luck, there'll be something to show tomorrow, seeing as there's two new simfiles to take home (I forgot to get DahrkDaiz's on Friday). To finish this post, nice work even passing Satan's Theme, DahrkDaiz. I can hit about a third of the purple arrows at the beginning, then the rest of the song kills me |

I might just go ahead and make the start of 5th mix coming up here right quick. I have a feeling that, no matter how hard I try, I won't be able to get all of ROS done in one fell swoop. I'm probably going to have to take my time getting those last six done. Last one was #90, so project 100 won't be started on for a while (Emptyeye asked in another thread). I'm figuring that if I don't get busy I might just have it done by year's end. I'm not really sure on how I'm going to go about doing it, but I have a feeling it's going to be around a week effort trying to sync up 49 songs in one. |

shit, ziff beat me, gonna have to beat him... Anyways, my turn to answer Uncle Elmo's question since you people suck and have no clue what you're talking about... 1. What is the criteria to get the "Extra Stage"? Is it all 3 songs on AA? Does it matter what difficulty you're on? For any of the DDRs in Max and up, AA'ing the last stage on Heavy or Oni goes to extra stage. For Max, your extra stage is Max 300, for Max 2, it's Maxx Unlimited, for Extreme, you get to choose your extra stage. If you AA your extra stage in Max 2, you get an Encore stage, which is Candy Star and for DDR Extreme, you must AA The Legend of Max on Extra Stage to get an Encore, which is Dance Dance Revolution (Oni steps). On Encore Stage, the scroll is at 3x, reverse and Sudden Death: break your combo and the stage is over. Ziff: I SHALL beat your score (I've beat this twice now so I think with a bit of practice, I could get a B or better). (edited by DahrkDaiz on 08-22-05 06:16 PM) |

Your score is better than mine I just have a better combo. edit...Or is it?** Oh, and for reference **Note: I altered my difficulty settings. The difficulty on that is now 5 judge rather than the 7 judge I'm used to. The life difficulty is 5 rather than 6. I can't get Euphoria to you today, alte Hexe, but I'll bring it in tomorrow and give you a link. Sorry for making you wait So I did both Synchronized Love and Don't Mind Lay-Lay (China) Boy (which, I have to add, makes hardly any sense), and brought in the results from both of them. I have two more words to say about the latter, which I feel describe what I think of the song pretty well: confounded freezes. First time through the song, I missed all of them Anyways, onto the scores. Euromorroc, on Standard The Legend of Sakura - Hyper-Apple Mix, on Heavy Synchronized Love, on Challenge Apparently I brought in two screenshots of Synchronized Love, and none of Don't Mind Lay-Lay (China) Boy Tomorrow, I guess. As for Euromorroc, it's been quite some time since the highest difficulty I've been able to pass a song on was Standard I like turning on Autoplay and watching the Beginner version of The a la Menthe by the same person (Toph). Right now I'd describe it as absolutely impossible That's it for now though. |

Oooo...I'm not sure. Directly to the PS2, I'm pretty sure, but it probably doesn't play very well. If you speak of DDR being ON the PS2, though, DDRMAX, MAX2, DDREX, and soon DDREX2. |

Originally posted by DahrkDaiz Um, I've played Stepmania on the PC, and it's really not different at all than the home DDRs, unless I'm a neophyte to this whole thing (Which I am). If I want a DDR experience of any type on my console, I'll play DDR. ALSO: Workout mode <3. I like actually being able to keep track of how long I've been playing. ADDITIONALLY: I imagine, if your phone has a USB port, you'd just hook it up to your computer and upload from the phone to the comp, and then from there you'd upload it to teh intarnets like any other picture. |
