Gods, I'm full of stupid questions this month Anyway, my PC needs a reinstall of XP pretty bad. But I've lost my CD. I've still got the product code and everything just not the actual disk. Can I borrow someone else's XP Home disk and use my product code or do I have to use my original CD? |

Everyone has the same contents on their cd, it's just the cdkey or product number that is different. So yeah. You can.

I honestly wouldn't see why Microsoft make each CD unisque, that would cost too much money to do. So yeah, you can probably do that. |

Microsoft makes unique keys for each of the service packs (and editions as well). That info would be helpful.

Making a key unique to each CD wouldn't cost anything. They'd just have to declare a variable in the source code that's guaranteed to not show up ANYWHERE else (use a big long string ), and find out where that ends up being placed in the file, then program their CD-writing software to change the value of that variable to a unique ID each time it presses a disc. Sounds complicated, but it's really not. But no, there isn't much point. |
