I used a gamepad when I had Windows, but I haven't tried it with Linux...

For NES emulatore, I like using the arrow keys for directional movement, Control for B, and Alt for A...most emulators don't allow Alt to be used though, so I usually end up using Shift for B and Z for A.

I have a GC -> USB thingy, but I seldom use it.

When I use a keyboard, I have pretty simple controls, like everone else.

Z = A, X = B. Then the arrow keys.

I have a pretty sick gamepad which I use for all emulation. Its a Saitek P880. Pretty spiffy.

Edit: Hi HH

A- A
B- X
Y- F
X- E
L- Left Shift
R- Spacebar
Start- numpad 0
Select- numpad .
Control pad- Duh????

Up/Down/Left/Right: IKJL, respectively

SNES GBA NES
/_W_\________________/_R_\
[ [I] (E) ]
[[J]+[L] SELSTR (S) (F)]
[ [K] [B][V] (D) ]

How convinient that R is the R button.

-----------------

It's interesting to note that I created that layout when I had to play SMW on a broken keyboard; the arrow keys never worked right, so I made that (originally the ESFD buttons were WADS, but then shifted over. It's a lot more natural for me, since that's almost always where my fingers rest anyway

Controller.
SNES:
arrow keys for arrow buttons

A = h
B = g
Y = f
X = t
L = r
R = y

Start = Enter
Select = right Shift
NES and GBA use the same as the above, just without the buttons they don't have.
And, in Sega Genesis,

A = f
B = g
C = h
Arrow keys, of course

Sadly, I lack any gamepads or joysticks.

bah, I accidentally voted Keyboard, but I use a controller. I have 2 PSX->USB adapters (1 works with my dance pad for DDR, the other works with emulators since not every emulator can use buttons as directional buttons and assumes to use of the PC-axis). Works great with SNES emulators and, of course, PSX emus

Ddr on the PC with a real dance pad? That rules.

Well I've bought two Gravis gamepads, and both of them ended up unusable due to faulty wiring after less than a year of use. At least the first one came with a CD full of demos for DOS games. Yeah, this was like 6 years ago. I've used the keyboard ever since. The only thing that sucks about the keyboard is that you can't press down, back, and letter key at the same time. That and I guess it just isn't the real thing.

I like the idea of using an Xbox controller, but I'd have to get a computer with Usb capabilities first...

DualShock 2 with adapter for console games (and Quake 1), Pelican universal arcade stick with X-Box adapter for arcade games (should support up to 4 sticks).

I only play via keyboard, because I can't play with a controller.
I have one, but it's to hard for me to play SNES games and other emulated games.
For PC games, the keyboard is the easiest to use IMO.
