I forgot when you get the faires, but uh... don't you have to finish the first palace to even being able to access the area where you learn the fairy magic thing? Or?

Common misconception, actually. You don't need to visit the first palace at all in order to get Fairy (Go to the North Desert, get Trophy. Go to Ruto, get Jump spell, go through cave to the south. Get the ladder from Bagu, go to Saria (Getting Life if you so choose),go through Death Mountain, get Hammer. Go into the cave with the Medicine of Life and get that. Go to Mido, get Fairy.

Obviously, with no Candle from the first palace, this is VERY difficult, but strictly speaking, no, you do not need to go to the First Palace to get Fairy. I know the emulator run on the Japanese version doesn't.

Of course, as Craw mentioned, I'm working from a New Game + file, thus rendering this whole discussion moot.

And I found out that I can cut out one of the Up + A usages from my route, which should save a few more seconds.

Kyouji Craw: No need to point that out in that way, I forgot that he mentioned that. Happens to everyone... Sometimes that just happens.

But wouldn't it be a more of a challange if you started from scratch, competly? >.>

Heh, games involving alot of luck probably would be the hardest to do a speedrun of. Anyone would do one of Golf for me? (wait... I will do one. xP)

Edit: I may as well mention.

I fixed my NES controllers today, i'm so fucking happy right now! I hadn't used my NES in what... eight years? I don't remember playing on the NES since I got the N64.

I only have six games, but I plan to find old games in Pawn shops and such. Yes i'm quite into emulation, but I just love having carts sitting around.

No need to point it out yet again...

...anyway, this is going in circles. XD

And hey, the thing that messed the Control cross was actually just some dirt. Yes dirt, something as simple. Cleaning it really fixed it. Before I had to press hard to even move, and Mario just would move a few inches on the screen before stopping. o.o However I can make it out why the same problem happened to both controllers...

Wow. Only 6 NES games? Not trying to brag or anything, but we've got 38 sitting over on the dining room shelf, not counting duplicates or anything. Amazingly enough, they all still work with a little bit of work. What games do you have?

On that topic, suprisingly, our NES controllers still work, but the ones for the N64 won't It's good to hear you got yours fixed What exactly was wrong with them?

I'd think the hardest types to do would be casino / gambling games I've only ever played 1 of those, but I still imagine they'd require quite a bit of luck.

Yeah, legitly speedrunning a casino game would be pretty tough, and not really practical. Then again, the quickest route through The Legend of Zelda relies on a +50 Rupee win in the LET'S PLAY MONEY MAKING GAME...

Knight rider

That reminds me. I would always play MONEY MAKING GAME (Why the fuck don't they just call it gambling :x) until I lost all my money, then I'd go kill stuff and play it again.

Awesome.

As for why they didn't call it gambling, I would guess more wacky Nintendo of America censorship.

And "LET'S PLAY MONEY MAKING GAME" is just so much better sounding if you ask me.

Pratically all of our games work for every system we have. Don't ask how many I just know there's a lot. Also, our dreamcast is kind of freaky seeing as it will work sometimes then others it won't. XD

I've got too many NES games to count. I'm not about to list them, heh.

Just as a random note, nothing will ever beat Nintendo's decision to change "Adolf Hitler" and "Nazis" to "Master D" and "Badds", respectively, in Bionic Commando. Particularly in light of what they let through in that game (And the fact they didn't change the graphic for "Master D", hence my title). O.o

Oh yeah, and of course they made the game easier for retarded American players.

And I have quite a few NES games as well. I have duplicates of Zelda II, Ninja Gaiden III, and an obscure Might and Magic type game called Dungeon Magic.

I'm not listing everything else.

Well, if we're going to list our NES games, I'll list mine as well

3-in-1 Super Mario Bros. / Duck Hunt / World Class Track Meet, Adventure Island III, Battle of Olympus, Bible Buffet, Big Nose the Caveman, Bomberman, BurgerTime, Captain Comic, Castlevania II: Simon's Quest, Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, Darkwing Duck, Exodus, Faxanadu, Fester's Quest, Gauntlet, Ghosts 'n Goblins, Joshua, Jungle Book, Kid Icarus, Kid Kool, King of Kings, Kirby's Adventure, Kung Fu, M.C. Kids, Mega Man 2, Puzznic, Ren & Stimpy Show: Buckaroo$, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Simpsons: Bart vs. the Space Mutants, Star Tropics, Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 2, Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario Bros. / Duck Hunt, Tetris, and finally, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link.

Whee. Long list

Strangely enough, the instruction booklet that came with Star Tropics said the battery inside would last for about 5 years. It's been more than 5 years since we got the game, so I'm wondering if there's either not a battery in it at all (but then, how would the game save?), or that we've somehow managed to keep the game in excellent conditions this whole while

My favorite game out of that list would be one of two. Either Star Tropics, or Joshua. I'd assume a few people have played the first one, but from what I read on Joshua at GameFAQs, it's an incredibly rare game to find. Same thing with Exodus, I think, because it's made by the same company (Wisdom Tree).

The only unlicensed game I know we have is Captain Comic. Got that a long while back at Canadian Tire, when they stilll sold video games I found a DOS version of the game a couple months ago, but I'd still rather play the game in the Nintendo

Karadur: The batteries are indeed supposed to last 5 years, but many of them, either due to having not recieved much use, being very well-kept, or some other reason, last much longer. My battery saves for both my copies of The Legend of Zelda (one the original gold, one the gray rerelease) and my copy of The Adventures of Link (original gold) still work, for example (These are my only NES games with battery saves... I had Shadowgate, but it and a few crappy games went missing one day. I blame my thieving cousin, who admitted to stealing a number of childhood toys, some of which were still in their original packaging.)

Uh.. the lens isn't dirty and there's no electrical fKitten Yiffers of any kind. All we know is not to close the lid all the way and it works just fine if you balance a game case on it just right. Another thing is we bought it from someone who had the same problem with it after hooking it up to show us when we went to buy it.

Also, if I were to list all the games we have I'd have to start looking through them and write all of them down which would create a nice huge list. But that would take to long to do.
