Alright, alright. That's enough of that now. You can't exactly classify something like that, Imoto. Stereotyping 'Americans' as not bright just because they still use a non-metric system is kind of contradicting in itself. Most, if not all scientists here USE the metric system in their studies, and it's not like we don't know about the metric system here, it's probably one of the first things that you learn in the first grade or so. In fact, it's used in a science class at school every day, and other things. Besides, we could possibly change to a metric system of measurement one day, but since many people here are accustomed to the non-metirc system, the change would be economically damaging and frustrating for some. So, that's probably a reason why we still have it. It might or might not change, but at least we are being taught the metric system so we aren't left to wonder... "Why did that speed limit sign say '100' in Montreal, while people are only going 60 MPH?" While I'm not saying that Americans are all bright, it's incorrect to say EVERY American is not bright either. Sorry for my defensive rant, but stereotyping is just... "Meh" in my opinion. Makes us pre-judge things before we actually see them for what they are. And while I am an American, I'm not exactly patriotic here, because America isn't a perfect country. I like living on it and all, but I look at my country with a neutral point of view.

*Sigh* So... what's this about Beyblade? While I'm not too interested in the show at all, I saw a commerical of a movie coming out and I didn't know what to think of it really. Because I tend to look down upon anime series that have their own movies, because the movies just seem like they're there for milking the consumers. Then again, I kind of formed this opinion because of lame Pokemon having like 6 movies now... I mean, do people still watch that show anymore? (Not gonna bite off anybody's head that does still, but it's... really hard to find on TV anymore.)

Jetix is in a lot of countries though :x

Also, it's pretty clear that all of you are talking about the original Beyblade (Bakuten Shoot Beyblade). That was pretty easily the worst one.

Waddler, the movie uses the Beyblade V-Force (Bakuten Shoot Beyblade 2002 - IE, the second one) style, though it's not an official part of the plot. So yeah. Not a part of GRevolution (IE the good one).

Waddler-D, not really wanting to explode that thread with rants about Stereotypes, but, ok, there isn't really a but.

Just my oppinion: The Americans and Germans (I was talking about both) I personally known are bright, nice and good people. It's more like a generall stereotype here in switzerland, I still think that those lawsuits, laws themselve or the voting system is ridiculous compared with our (in our oppinion).

I may appologise if my statement in the prior post hurts you in any way, or any other. But (yes, here is one) is my oppinion.

I didn't know that the Metric System was tought in school, as much as I know, the USA is the last country using the once as 'imperial system' known messarues.

By the way, does anyone know a Site wich explains the american school system? I don't know much about it, only that it would really appeal to me.

Let me say my oppionion more correct:

I think that most americans and germans or not too bright, as seen on television and the internet.

And another Topic, Valcion, I read in General Chat that he is leaving the board, I'm not gonna post there, 'cause I don't really have any memories of him. Just hope that he made the right decision.

No I have to learn some mor chemistry, if anyone volunteers to help me with oil destilation or learning the Alkans (Methan, Ethan, Propan, n-Butan, n-Pentan, n-Hexan, n-Heptan, n-Octan, n-Nonan and n-Decan) or just 2,2,4Trmethylpentan.

Truth is, stupid people are overblown and are at times... attention whores. That's why you see more of them in general.

Sure, people want attention... but most sane people is happy with moderate amount of attention.

...althought I must say there is alot of stupid laws in US. And strange regulations and lawsuits. And then let's not forget the nationalism which we find quite silly in Europa, in Sweden we just raise our flag on our indepandnce day and that's it, I think Sweden needs more nationalism to be honest. xD But I guess it's just cultural diffrences...

Imoto: Well, I'm sorry if I was a little too rash with my rant myself. I respect your opinion either way though, because we are kinda off by still having the Imperial system of measurement as the main type here. I don't know the reasons why we haven't changed yet. The metric system is easier and more flexible to work with overall. Because compared with converting from feet to miles against converting meters to kilometers, the metric system is a lot simpler. Heck, I think I knew about liters and such, because I got the imperial system's measurement of volume. I still get confused on what's bigger at times, a pint or a cup... Either way though, I didn't take it personally and I sure wasn't planning to start an argument here, so no real need to apologize. Just was making a point there, that's all.

But I can understand why you would think that, the US has made lots of goofy ass mistakes and while I won't name them all, the lawsuits after spilled coffee and how there wasn't a warning label on it, and then WINNING the court case. Yeah, that's just... plain awful. Though, I'm wondering Imoto... since Switzerland was a neutral country in WWII. Did anything war-like (such as a attack or some incident of the war spilling over onto its soil) happen in its borders at all? Because I was always fascinated about how Switzerland had all this war going on around its borders, yet remained in a neutral country and basically out of the war, I would think.

And about Valcion's and Jizuko's leave, I was more surprised about Jizuko leaving more than Valcion. Valcion was actually kind of hinting it in that thread of his on General Chat. Though, I'll try to see if he's around on AIM and say something. As for Jizuko, he was quiet after that incident involving Yiffy Kitten's demotion, so I guess that could be one of the reasons why he decided it was best to put the board in the past. Probably best not to go too deep into that here though.

Kyouji: Alright, I'll see what this new Beyblade is all about, to see what it's like before I start going on to think that it's horrible. Though, I doubt that I'll ever try to look at another Power Rangers spinoff again. They just seem to get worse and worse each time, and besides... the whole thing's getting old.

Laziness.

On the subject of unintelligent Americans: Stupid people are more obvious than smart people. Smart people know to keep their mouth shut, while the less smart ones do not. That, and the stupid lawsuits (omg burger king made my son fat!), and it's no wonder Americans seem so damn stupid.

We're not all that bad, though. Those of us that do have some intelligence are just less noticable.

Trapster: I meant that stupid/loud people are the ones you notice the most.

...lawsuits against fast food resturants are just sad. *rolleyes* And it's a common joke here about all the warnings they place in US. Hell, they even placed the warning "Do not place hands on the blade" on a Swedish chainsaw as they was afraid of lawsuits. ~_~ (at least on the ones they exported to the US apparently)

Meters rules, and I think it's generally worth it to do a transistion. It costs alot thought...

We used feet and inche's for long time ago, but the thing is... it isn't the same as the American inch. We did go over to the metric system since it just made more sense. And was standarized.

No Problem, I allmost expected some reaction like that.

Maybe because the politicians themself are accostumed and also the reasons you mentioned in your earlier post are good armguments against the change.

On the other hand, the UK had to change to Metrics 'cause of the EU. Good thing I say.

The Litres are the same as the Meters, and 1 Ltr = 1 dm^3
I just have problems with converting combined masses, like km/h to m/s or the mass itself, kg/dm^3 to kg/m^3 (got a 2.8 out of 6 in my last physics thest.

Easy explanations:
- All the Nations had their money in Switzerland.
- Switzerland declared themselves neutral to all countries.

We had some attacks on other countries embassies in Switzerland, but the radar systems where allready advanced enough, to not destroy other buildings at mistake.

One of switzerlands biggest weaknesses is it's Railway system, in January or February, there was a SoftwarefKitten Yiffer 'cause of a damaged cable in the 'Zentralstellwerk', wich controlls all trains in and arround Z

Oh yeah, Imoto, if you need a basic idea on the American School System, here's a site with something: http://www.usastudyguide.com/overview.htm

It's not great, but it's a start.

Anyway, I think that Tamarin nailed a good reason on the head, as well as Kitten Yiffer. The US IS probably too lazy to convert into Metric and it would be pretty costly now to go out and change every road sign that had distance or weight/mass involved.

And Trapster, again... read deeper into the posts. I don't know if you being silly or goofy with that last post, but Kitten Yiffer was saying that because of America's law system and the retarded civil lawsuits we're known for, the Swedish are spoofing the fact that people now had to CLEARLY mark things were dangerous to smartalec morons or else, SUING TIME!

EDIT: Ha! That info about Switzerland's neutral stance during WWII just makes me think that nation is even cooler now. I always thought that Switzerland was the country with the smartest choice at that time and I can see why it made that smart choice, and it's kind of cool hearing about a country I don't know a great deal about too. I mean, I hear about the UK, Germany, Spain, France, and other countries in history books and on the news, but does anybody talk about Switzerland that much? Not a lot, but yeah. If I ever visit Europe someday, I will definitely make a stop in Switzerland and maybe ride the trains.

Sweden was also neutral during the Second world war. Althought we produced and exported alot of matriel to germany, and it's said that Hitler liked Sweden as a semester resort. So maybe he just wanted to preserver it... althought we watched our Norwegian and Danish brothes succumb to the Nazi forces. Infact it was a few hours from that Denmark got attacked until the goverment capitluated. :/
