I think that Mario Kart 64 is much more fun to play than MKDD.

Maybe because it

The blue shell can miss in certain situations too, and yeah... being second place makes you safe from the shell. Unless your right behind the first one. At least in Mario kart Double dash where it explodes.

I hadn't really played MK64 for quite awhile now. Oi...

The Blue Shell missing in MKDD is really rare, though.

Yeah, but I know two places where it can defiantly happen.

DK's level, when your in the air after getting shot out by the barrel cannon. You can get hit, but it just disappears. Your invincble while flying. The same with that sucking tube thing in Rainbow road.

The only real chance you have of missing the Blue Shell is on a really long jump, I think - those two locations qualify and there might be a few others. Plus if you're REALLY freaking good at evasive moves.

But yeah - having it nail you in 2nd place is a bitch.

Which is why I listen for that ominous hissing sound. Moving to the side is a lot less painful. I've had people play me who don't know that sound, and in one particular instance, the guy was near behind me and I heard the sound, so I just slowed down and moved to the side as he passed me. I remember his words as it happened: "OH YEAH! 1st PL....OH SHIT!"

Also the pipe on Daisy Cruiser, where you drop down the hole after a 90-degree turn. Best to have at least 4 Acceleration if you plan to go down there... Any place that makes you immune to the Lightning Bolt works on the Blue Shell, as far as I can tell.

I don't mind being hit by the Blue Shell that much, though, unless I'm hit by a red shell just before that, and a Bowser Shell right after. That's happened a lot. Usually, though, I use either Toad's Kart or the Boo Pipes; the acceleration's good, and I usually catch a faster car with less acceleration in the blast as well.

I remember a time where I got smacked by a Blue Shell, probably in the WORST place possible. I was on Wario Colosseum and I was in first place on 150cc. If you guys have played through the whole course, you know of that shortcut at the bottom of the course that jumps over a small pit. Well, I was doing just that. Immediately, a blue shell and nails me RIGHT over the hole. My cart goes soaring upward from the impact and then down into the damn pit, killing many precious seconds. It's safe to say that I didn't win that race after that...

Oh yeah, your talking about MK64 right? Wario Colosseum... is a evil stage, it's long very long and you can messup royally at that ramp. If you fall down, it's the same time as losing the whole match most of the time.

In Double dash I don't know many places where you can messup so royally. Then the level layouts are designed that way too so...

No, Kitten Yiffer... It's Wario Stadium in MK64, Wario Colosseum is in MKDD. And when did computers fire Spiny Blue Shells in Mario Kart 64?

But there aren't too many places in Mario Kart: Double Dash where you can complete finish 8th from one mistakes. Besides, that game has it so that the computers are more threatening than in the MK64. I mean, the only thing that was different between the classes was that your cart was faster and more prone to go out of control, some courses had more difficulty to them (Bowser's Castle and Choco Mountain for reference), and the computer was faster than you, or at least the "rivals" (Racers who place in the top 3 spots every race). In Mario Kart: Double Dash, the computers in 50cc are slow and dumb as bricks, NEVER using shells for the most part. In 100cc, the computers gets a fair upgrade, and start to use red shells and sometimes blue shells on you. Also, I noticed that they make use of power sliding to maintain their speed, or at least the rivals. 150cc is just all that only harder, the computers are probably at their finest and the difficulty is tough. Most likely tougher than anything Mario Kart 64 on 150cc could dish out. But... I have to say that Toad's Turnpike on Mirror Mode in Mario Kart 64 was probably one of the hardest things to deal with. Man, oncoming traffic and little karts should never mingle...

I love to use lightnings when people are about to cross that ramp. I also like to put bananas in front of it.

Wario Stadium is my favorite track in MK64.

And you said Wario Colosseum yourself, Tamias.

Once, I accidently smacked my brother over the wall to the left during the beginning of the track. He was 1 lap ahead of me after that.

...oh damn, I know which pit your talking about now. Yeah that one... you do lose alot of time if you get hit in the air and fall down. Althought the Wario Stadium in MK64 is still one of the worst levels in the Mario kart series when it comes to a single messup...

Toads Turnpike in mirror mode would make the level easier for British people at least. But I remember the hell it was with that level... hitting trucks constantly the few times I played it.

How many times have trucks/cars hit you in a row, Kitten Yiffer?

My record is probably 4 times in a row.

I can lay claim to 6 in a row, that being with less than five seconds between each one.

But then again, I could easily go through the race without hitting a single car. And I always put my banana peels in the middle of the road. No cars go there, but chances are if you slip on it you'll go right into a car. I never followed one set path; I'd go in and out of traffic, go across the track to the other edge... kept shells off me.

Being British does not help with Toad's Turnpike, what are you talking about? There's only one direction. There's no left or right side. O.o''

Actually, no, wait it does help, because we British always drive into oncoming traffic. That's our custom.

Excuse me while I make some tea.

Trapster, that's what those fake blocks are FOR. ~.~

Another track I like is Koopa Troopa Beach. There I put bananas and fake blocks on the ramp to the shortcut.

Anymore blatantly obvious methods to win? Hey, how about using a Lightening Bolt as a player goes over a jump? NOBODY'S THOUGHT OF THAT ONE.
