The online or offline variety?

(Why yes, that question was directed at the poker but it could easily be swapped back to the reading aspect as well.)

I haven't played 7-card Stud enough...more like 5-card Draw...and even then...like I'm going to get a Spade Royal in this lifetime in any given casino.

I read both online and offline. I would say more offline reading is what I do the most.

When it comes to reading.. I started reading this just yesterday, and I must say it seems to be pretty good. (Link to fanfiction.net) That story is rated PG 13, though, for some reason.

And when it comes to poker.. I'm not doing it myself, but some of the people at work, seem to be pretty hooked by it. They're even playing with money, and just a few days ago they asked me to join. Well, no way in hell I'm playing poker with money.

Trapster... that's not really insulting XKeeper, that's just pointing out something. Just clearing it up for you, I'm not doing anything to offend.

As for poker, I'm a 5-card draw person. I know how to play 7-card stud, it's just that I don't LIKE playing 7-card stud. I haven't played in a while, but I'm pretty sure that my "skill" will be the same.

Also, is it me or am I seeing more templates of a certain layout around here?

You aren't alone but layout format only can differ so much...

I like 7 over 5--i feel restricted with 5 (like my first 5 cards are everything to the hand... where as with 7 you somehow have more chances to get the card you need? i dunno...

I think I'm more of a fan of Texas Hold'em after watching way too much poker on TV. (Eh, when there's nothing else on at 1 AM...)

neo: Basically you get dealt two cards at the start of your hand and then there's a betting period where you figure out if you're in or out. Usually you'll go in if you have two high cards, two same cards or two suited cards. Then you have 3 cards (flop) dealt down, then betting, then another card (turn), another round and then the final card (river). Whoever can make the best 5-card hand out of their two cards and three of the five dealt wins.

Example: Say I'm dealt two Kings and the cards on the table are a 9, King, 6, 9 and 4. My best hand's a full house, and I'd probably be in good shape unless someone had 4 9's.

makes me wonder what version I was playing--then again, I was in 5th grade and I read how to play 5 and 7 from a book. Hm...based on this new information, i'd probably still go with 7-card stud.

Watch any of the poker shows on ESPN (or on TSN since that's how we get them through ESPN in Canada) and you'll figure it out pretty quick.

Of course, the amount of strategy and number-crunching that goes on with the expert players... eech.

with any card game, it's all about knowing the make up of the deck and knowing what cards are coming up or won't be coming up. however, i'd wish I had that ability because you could make a living that way... provided you took in more than you lost

Ah, you're referring to counting the cards.

Some people have that skill and it's not *illegal* to use in any casinos, but if you take in too much money they might get suspicious and ask you to leave. And if you were a pro gambler, you wouldn't want your reputation to be ruined in Atlantic City or Las Vegas.

I guess that skill has to be used sparingly.

Counting cards is like a 'get rich quick' scheme to me. Even though if you use it too much and get suspicious it won't work out. Hell if I could do that I'd go gamble once a week and make some money.

I read a lot, both online and off...

My parents go to Canada to gamble a lot...(we live about 25 miles from the Canadian border) With my bad luck, though, I don't think I'd last more than five minutes in a casino.

I'm back bitch.

And i'm disapointed. On all of you. There aren't that many new pages in the ACS thread or this one and there isn't that many new threads.

...did the board activity sink like a rock without me?

It's so damn cold in here.

i think you have something to do with it...probably a few others too

Kitten Yiffer, you have the new unofficial position of being this board's pillar since you seem to always have something to say--do a good job in traning trapster to succeed you since his post count seems to depend on yours
