Does anyone else think the most intriguing matchup here is the Red Sox vs...the Red Sox?

Seriously, they always find some way to shoot themselves in the face and snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. Be it Pedro Martinez insisting he was okay in the 8th inning of Game 7 of the ALCS last year (And taking not-quite-enough heat to save his manager from getting fired), or the now-legendary Game 6 of the 1986 World Series (Funny how everyone remembers "IT GETS BY BUCKNER!!", yet they forget that the game should NEVER have got into that situation in the FIRST PLACE, but it did thanks to three Mets hits AND a wild pitch), it's just a matter of watching and waiting for the latest heartbreak.

Well, the Red Sox now have finished off Anaheim and are now in the ALCS. 1 series down, two more to go...

The Red Sox are going to win the World Series.

This is the year.

And I'm not happy about it at all, because as a Cubs fan I want my team's curse to come to an end first.

Yeah, but when your girlfriend, a fan of your blood rivals, wants you to win so everyone would SHADDUP about the curse, well... I think the Bosox have the sympathy.

I don't fear the Yankees. We have no reason to. This is our year.

*breaks out the Red Sox jersey, hat, pin and whatever else he can find for cheap around here*

Once again... the Yankees *shudders* cannot win. Last year was my nightmare final (Marlins/Yankees) so yeah. Boston's due.

Ehh, no. Sorry.

Red Sox: "We would much rather lose to the Yankees once again, instead of getting our hearts ripped out by the Cardinals."

Let me know when an entity can put up a fight against those Cardinals, kthxbye.

Dodgers have now been eliminated so St. Louis is going to the NLCS. My gut feeling right now says Houston is going to join them since I do not believe they have nothing to lose but then again...

St. Louis/Houston's a fine match in my book. I have nothing against either team so it would be good baseball.

But on a sad note during the playoffs...

Ken Caminiti, the 1996 National League MVP who later admitted using steroids during his major league career, died Sunday. He was 41.

Likely the cocaine that did him in.

News reports are saying he died of a heart attack...would cocaine do that to a heart? i know steroids would... but anyways, it is unfortunate he has died fairly young...

anyways, Yankees and Red Sox--anyone think it is going to be as nasty like last year?

Oh yes they would. If you hear the words "enlarged heart" when they talk about the autopsy, you can be damn sure it was drugs based on his lifestyle.

It is a shame but... shows you what drugs can do.

Wow, I remember reading about that in SI...I wonder if anyone noticed before he admitted to it, that he was a lifetime 260 hitter, until he slugged 330 with a monster amount of HR's

neo: All I'll say on Yankees/Sox is that this is one of the few times I'll be GLAD I'm home receiving cancer treatment as opposed to being up at school. Last year my college sent out more than one voice mail amounting to "Please don't riot after the games."

And the team that will play St. Louis for the NL pennant is...

Spoiler:
HOUSTON! Of course, the game's not over yet, but it's 12-3 in the 8th. Come on.

Although his outing was putrid at best (lasted 3, gave up 6) and Mussina had a perfect game for 6 1/3. Game's not over yet!

A 5-run 7th inning is what happened. Mussina's perfect game was broken up with some clutch hits.

--Edit--
NM, dem damn Yankees won.
