NSNick, I thought it was Louisville that the Cubs beat long ago.

26 is still significant -- it's the most runs scored since divisional play began. The Phillies (1985), Rangers (1996?), and Cubs (1995) have all won games by the score of 26-7.

The Orix Blue Wave also lost a game 26-7 last season. Every 26-run outburst in baseball has resulted in 7 for the losing team. Bizarre.

I saw it differently...

Well the Yankees won the next 2 games in the series, but nobody's gonna remember 9-1 and 5-4 games centuries later.

If my team could learn to beat the Kansas City Royals I'd be proud of the Yankees for knocking off the division rivals, and the Indians for giving a beating of a lifetime.

Actually, this may mark the year as the greatest "Yankee downfall" ever. Think about it, April, Red Sox sweep the Yankees in Yankee Stadium, and I think they took 2 of 3 at Fenway. Yankees were reeling then. They since picked up pace, and the Red Sox kinda fell under the radar. But now, the Yankees are doing utterly horrible, the Red Sox are stomping all over everyone they meet, while their greatest test lies ahead with the A's. If the Red Sox take 2 out of 3 or even somehow manage to sweep the A's, then the Yankees can already hand the Red Sox the division. Let's not forget about the part of Red Sox vs Yankees 6 more times this regular season. This is gonna be a huge test for Boston. They need to leave scars over the A's, and mutilate the Yankees.

Jeez, how bout those Sox?

8 straight is it? 10 at home?

That's some run. Too bad it only gives fuel to all the stupid Sox fans at my school, and there are a LOT of stupid Red Sox fans.

Yeah, people are tending to forget that the Sox are stomping over a bunch of sub-500 teams right now.

Was is a division race. The Indians were 1 game behind before they had the 9 game losing streak. They would then drop to 7 games down, and it doesn't look like they will recover this year. Twins has since regained winning ways and are 9 and a half up on both the White Sox and Indians.

Yup. There's always next year.

And it was the division race, BTW. Our division sucks, hehe.

And the ABSOLUTE FRIGGING IDIOT award of the day goes to...

NEW YORK (AP) - Kevin Brown's frustrating season finally reached a boiling point, and now his hot temper could cost the New York Yankees at the most important time.

Brown broke his non-pitching hand when he punched a wall in the clubhouse Friday night during a 3-1 loss to the Baltimore Orioles that cut New York's lead in the AL East to just 2 games over Boston.

I think this comment on another message board sums it up...

"I'm worried Mr. Steinbrenner is going to break his foot on Brown's ass tomorrow."

--Edit--
I'd like to tip my hat off to Ichiro Suzuki, who's going for the all time single season hits record. Current record was set by George Sisler back in 1920, with the record at 257. This is a regular season record, doesn't include postseason.
--/Edit--

And the Yankee's season has ended! Prediction time!

Yankees will lose the division to the Red Sox, and in a freak-ish slump, not claim the wild card. The Angels will win the AL wild card.

ALDS: Twins vs A's (Oh please, not another 18 inning marathon)
ALDS: Red Sox vs Angels

ALCS: Twins vs Red Sox (Did you really think I would pick against my team? Hell no, they have better pitching right now anyway.)

Now the NL. No catching the Cardinals, they are long gone. Astros will not catch up, though I believe they come close. And the Cubs vs Marlins will really determine it, though I believe the Cubs will come out on top.

NLDS: Cardinals vs Dodgers
NLDS: Cubs vs Braves (why is it these two teams ALWAYS seem to match up?)

NLCS: Cardinals vs Cubs (Cubs fan all the way)

WS: Twins vs Cardinals

In all honesty, the Cubs are not good enough to beat the Cardinals, as they've already shown many times this year. But who wins? 1987 starting to ring bells?

I really fear the Marlins. It would absolutely suck to see them catch Chicago and take the wild card.

And now I'd like to thank Hurricane Frances for completely ruining the NL wild card race.

Marlins and Cubs will do a doubleheader at Wrigley.

As a result of the first three games being postponed, the idle Cubs have been caught by the Giants. This does not affect the remaining three games between Cubs and Marlins, but 5 out of 6 isn't gonna be bad. The next two weeks will make or break the Cubs and Marlins.

more fun is how houston has crawled it's way back to be in a position to win the NL wild card. After the all-star break, you wouldn't have thought this would have happened...
