Just wondering, what IRC clients can people recommend?

I am a Mac and Linux user..... not a Windows user. Can anybody recommend a good client for me?

(and would it maybe be an idea to have a sticky thread with IRC clients in it, or is that a bad idea?)

My one recommendation would be to search for irc on sourceforge. They usually have good stuff, for free.

Okay, when I said I'm not a Windows user, I mean that... I'd use Linux or the Mac over Windows most the time, so in general I won't be using Windows. I am aware of mIRC

I have had trouble finding a Mac client though, I found a few but I remember at least one of them being really dodgy, so I kinda gave up.

This site has quite a few clients for different OS'es, but it doesn't have any sort of rating for 'em, so you'll just have to look through and choose with one you like best

Wow, I'm not the only regular Mac user here.
Yeah I had problems finding a client at first as well.. I used Shadow IRC for a long time, which sucked ass. Though currently I use Athena IRC. It says OS X, but works just fine in both X and 9, so no worries there. It's pretty good.

X-Chat Aqua. I use the Windows port of it, but from what I can tell, the ports are pretty much all the same. It's about the only IRC client that I can stand also. (mIRC sucks)

I found x-chat confusing, but well. I'm too used to mIRC so whatever...

BTW, you can use mIRC in Linux with Wine. Hell even the author of mIRC said along the lines of "there will be no port, if you want to use mIRC in Linux use Wine".

This thing works in any platform, or should.

Colloquy is a kickass OS X IRC client. Much more Mac-like than ANY of those OS 9 clients ever were. Applescriptable, extensible via plugins, open source.
