Here's a translation hack I made a long time ago: Baseball Simulator 2. Anyone remember the original, with its "ultra plays" such as the Photon Ball, Leaf Hit, Hyper Run, etc.? There are two sequels that never made it outside Japan, and I've got one of them 90% translated! Action shots: http://www.geocities.com/heiankyo794/bbs2-1.PNG Edit screens: http://www.geocities.com/heiankyo794/bbs2-2.PNG As soon as I can figure out how to make a patch, and hopefully iron out a few more kinks, the game will be ready! |

Googie, thanks for the support! Some features of this game: * All the ultra plays are back, with the exception of the one that turns the field around in a big circle (it was pretty useless) -- it's still in the ROM, but it doesn't do anything if you assign it to a player. New ultra plays include a pitch which turns into a giant monster face as it approaches home plate, swerving from side to side, and a pitch that becomes huge (and is easy to hit unless I'm missing something). * Players now have many more parameters. Stats (like fielding) without numerical values are rated from A (best) to G (worst). Fielding has been split into catching and throwing; position players are also rated on their "eye" (the computer will sometimes swing at bad pitches) and "condition" (how likely they are to be "happy" or "sad" in the batter's box). Batters now also have "types" -- line drive hitter, fly ball hitter, etc. I haven't experimented with this very much. * With pitching, you've still got the basic stats, but you can now set parameters for left curve, right curve, fork, left fork, and right fork. There are nine different pitching motions instead of just over, under, and sidearm. Pitchers not only have stamina ratings, but also have ratings telling how much stamina they recover after a day off. * The six stadia from the original are back. I've given them more accurate/interesting names. * The 12 Japanese teams have been changed to interesting historical teams from MLB; mostly from the '80s and '90s. The Ultra teams are uninteresting to westerners, so I changed them to historical figures from various fields. If you've played Extra Innings, this should make sense. Stuff I couldn't do: * Some of the text is impossible to find in the ROM, especially the text when you win the pennant. * I couldn't make some of the words longer, so I turned various unneeded katakana into two-letter combinations. A kludge but it works. * A lot of the graphics are compressed, such as the title screen and team logos. I couldn't fix these. The original game ROM is Ultra Baseball Jitsumeiban 2; make sure you've got the "jitsumeiban" (real player name edition) sequel. Patch here: http://www.geocities.com/heiankyo794/BaseballSimulator2patch.zip Let me know if you have any problems downloading or installing and I'll help you out. This game is a lot of fun! |

^-- You hacked all that? I guess I shouldn't be surprised... The Japanese always seem to be the best hackers. Still awesome, though. |

The patch works fine, you put alot in this & it shows. & your right, this game is fun. Off Topic I have in one of my old CDs another Japanese Baseball SNES ROM, the main team had cats wearing baseball uniforms, but the uniform was a Coca Cola uniform. I forgot the name, but that game was fun too. |

HH, I didn't actually hack all that stuff in the sense that the original game didn't contain it at all -- the original actually offers all those parameters; all I did was look up what they would be for the players I was putting in the game and edit them accordingly. When I first started working on this game, I couldn't even edit palettes, so which teams to put in were basically determined by which colors were worn by the Japanese team in the original. The 1989 Orioles might not be the most deserving team to be included, but they wear orange and black like the Yomiuri Giants, so they're in. And since no team has ever worn pink and black like the Chiba Lotte Marines once did, I made that team the "Negro League Stars", with Satchel Paige and Josh Gibson and the like. Much later I found out where the game stores each team's uniform color code (not the palette), and changed the Orix Blue Wave's jerseys to Color 24, yellow and green, from the All-Star team. This way they could become the Oakland A's. So many of the graphics are compressed -- the "managerial tendencies" screen, where you can edit how often the manager bunts, puts in subs, etc. when the computer is in charge, is still all in Japanese because that 16x16 font is compressed. I did put a lot of work into it though, and despite its flaws (which could probably be corrected easily by many of the geniuses here), it's still fully enjoyable. There's another sequel to Baseball Simulator beyond this one, which has really realistic players, etc., and numbers on the uniforms, and nice big logos, but so much is compressed that I can barely get started on it. That would be another fun project for the future. And Googie -- you're thinking of Dolucky's Kusa Yakyu! (Dolucky's Sandlot Baseball) This is a delightful game which of course never made it overseas. I'll take another crack at translating it... |

Trust me Dcahrakos, this is a fun game. Japanese baseball SNES games has a unique style to them. Heian-794 WOW! that's the name? sweet! I found the CD with that ROM. The funny thing is, that it's split up into 2 separate files. COLAKATA.078 COLAKATB.078 Your'e right, this game is delightful. Even if I don't know what their sayin, fun nonetheless. Reminds me when I used to buy imported SNES carts. |

Googie, this is what you're thinking of: http://www3.omn.ne.jp/~hr-gear/d-kusayakiu.htm And here's an online message board with a screenshot of the Dolucky announcers: http://6200.teacup.com/natuki/bbs I just played this game again for the first time in probably a year -- the computer is tough! It always gets you out if you get caught in a rundown, and the defense can get to just about anything. (Of course, they bobble the ball a lot.) This game would be hard to translate unless some elite hacking behemoth could find a way to change its 16x16 characters into two 8x16 characters -- the player names only contain four spaces! But the dialogue is so hilarious, and the game play is such fun, that this game deserves a translation too. One other game that I'm 90% done with, and could probably release, is the sequel to Extra Innings. Another unsung SNES baseball classic! |
