"I was wondering what happened... I figured something happened, but I didn't have time to look into it. We don't really need a panel this time, but there aren't many people who can judge... I guess I will have to look into this more, but there isn't very many people I can think of..."

Star was mostly talking to himself.

"Maybe if Silvershield came back, or I could at least find him, he might like to judge. Other wise, I need some help. I''l get to my idea right now though."

Star looked around almost as if he had been talking to anybody, but he knew that everyone probably thought he was talking to himself.

Janus: "I'll field that one. I've heard tales of a paladin that matches Silvershield's description, but I hear he's given up on his fighting ways and moved onto a more discussive scene. I think it'd be prudent nevertheless to extend an invitation to him to be the judge...."

Taking another cue on Star's suggestion, Janus continued his expressions.

"I have another idea, however. Why not have the people decide? The audience. Those who do not fight may judge the battles and determine the winner. I certaiinly know there are people who look into our little struggles that exist outside the borders of our combatative ways, so why not ask them to bring their judgement down upon us? Certainly it'd be much more of a mandate than anything else..."

OOC: Basically, I'm suggesting that if we have another tournament, let's make it public to the rest of the Acmlmers, and have them judge based on poll voting. We have a fight, then the rest of the people discuss how well it went. The catch is, only NON sim-battlers can judge, there's no use in having other fighters judge other fighters because there could be biases. If we have a more general system, it'd be much easier to get a consensus on who's the best. Not only that, but people who'd take a designated judging position (I.E. Kirbynite, Teddylot, Waddler D in the last tourney...) would be able to compete as well.

Kirbynite: Hm... Non-combatants... That's a great idea... But it'd be pretty hard to go upstairs or downstairs and try to convince someone to look at the battles... But it's worth a try.

((OoC: I sure as heck know that Teddylot's gonna like that ))

"Well, that kinda kills my idea, but that works for me. It shouldn't be hard to convince some people to judge it. Of course, by competeing in a tournament only the first two rounds have a chance of being boring."

Star thought the idea over in his head, even though he knew it was a great idea to begin with. An audience judged tournament should get some people attracted to the prospect of battling.

OOC one very small problem with your idea Grey, is how are we going to get people to read the entire battle and then vote instead of just voting... Think this through just a tad more and it should be a perfect idea. (And an easy one to implement)

OOC: Well, instead of a poll, why not post a normal thread and have the people who read the thread post in the thread giving their reasons for judgement and the declared winner in their eyes? It'd be more of an analysis instead of a vote. A full fledged feedback section for non sim battlers to criticize and give suggestions to the combatants and give them a scope of what they need to improve on. The thread remains open for a few days, then someone counts the votes by user. This way we can also prevent fellow participants from cheating and voting in the polls, since in order for the vote to be counted an explanation has to be given behind it.

OOC: WhoawhoaWHOA... Nasty. If we let the people decide the winner in their eyes, I might get competitive and nasty. One reason I don't join tournaments is because it's kinda like keeping score, and when I play a scored game I lose my sense of fun and only think about winning. Then when someone DOES win, it makes it seem like they're better than everyone who lost because they did something someone else couldn't. And this time winners will be decided by opinion? Ugh, it's an unpleasant thought.

Personally I think that if we were going to have judges, let the fighting combatants decide, just like they do in normal sim-battles. See, these battles are determined by nothing except words. We never try to win in these battles, we just try to keep a realistic story going, right? It doesn't matter who wins and who loses. We just go with the flow. Since everyone who's posted on this thread so far respects the rules, we should have no problem being realistic about the winner. Get what I'm saying?

OOC In no way, do I understand what you are saying. The point of a tournament is to find a victor, the best of the sim battlers, or at least the ones that competed. We aren't going to have people judge on opinion just on how well each combatant did, or at least that was what I thought. We will have people tell why they thought whichever battler deserved to win, and if they say "I think x wins because I hate y" we just wont count it. At least that seems like what Grey was getting at. I see no real reason why we can't have a tournament to decide who is the best because some one thinks being the best doesn't matter. Remember Schwa, not everyone thinks the same, and some want to prove they are the best or they are good. Plus it is simbattling and you only get better after time, unless you are naturally good to start with.

OoC: You brought up a good point, Schwa... That was something I was doing back when I was judging... I was judging based on certain things... From what I can remember.. it consisted of Attendance, Creativity, Teamwork, Clearity... uh... Great.. I forgot all of them already... But I know I had a good system set up... *sigh* Maybe it's best if we did have Sim-Battlers be the judges...

Nijiru quickly piped up. "Then maybe we should have people who are not in a set fight judge that fight. I've seen it work in other places, it should work here.

"If all the duels are 1 vs 1, three judges would be enough."

"Whatever works, but I haven't gotten ahold of Silvershield, so I guess we just have to decide who is judges for each round. We should create a notice to all who want to compete to sign up so we can set up a roster."

Star thought to himself for a second and then thought of something else.

"We doing elemination or a tournament where you get to compete in every round?"

"If it were up to me," says Jarukoth, "I would prefer a single elimination style tournament just to keep things simple, but whatever you guys want to do is okay by me..."

"As for Silvershield, he seems to be preoccupied with some other things, so we will most likely have to be sans Callean for this one."

"Schwa's right. Who needs a tournament when you've got so many other better things to do?" Suddenly, APH whispers to Schwa. "Psst! I just realized something. This is an auditorium and cafeteria, right? How does this sound: you and me can do a stage act like dancing or something!"

"Courage Aura," Schwa whispers, as a blue circle lights up in the ground. "Stand there and you'll find you have more acting talent than you thought. As for being allowed back there..." Schwa holds up a permission slip signed by Kirbynite.

Flashback...

"Hi Kirbynite, will you sign this?" Schwa says as he approaches Kirbynite with a blank piece of paper. "I always wanted your autograph, ya know... Forum moderators are pretty cool people, and you've always done a good job, so... It's kinda embarassing, but hey, the sooner I ask, the better. Here, sign this." Schwa shoves the perfectly blank paper to Kirbynite along with an ordinary pen for him to sign.

OOC: To Kirbynite, this'll be funny if you play along... hint hint...
