Check it out: The U.S. Census Bureau seems to have a record of a woman (?) named Celestin Chere from 1900: link You can also search for a description of the Chere family here: http://www.infokey.com/ "The Chere family traces their ancestral roots back to Anglo Saxon origin, and first appeared in ancient medieval records in Surrey." FF6's characters have a lot of European style surnames, so those surnames can be found on sites like these. Does anybody have info on other surnames?
