Hi.

Ever since I first started to make a cave level with the kind of sinking platforms found in Valley of Bowser 4 of the original SMW, I noticed that certain platforms will not appear when I get to them (that is, while I am testing the level).

Just wondering, but is there some sort of sprite limit for each level (not just each screen)?

If so, which value should I use here (I have 0B selected, but with the 30-some sprites I have, I am guessing I have the wrong value )?

Thanks in advance.

Yes. Sprites have an limit number. The sprite's limit is around 84. If you put more sprites than that number, some of them will begin to not show up. I think is that information that you need.

Hope it helps.

Actually, there is a mode you can select in the Sprite Header, and that determines how many Sprites can be used in a Screen (Push F1 or F2 to see the screens boundries).

The first number (after the " = " Sign), determins how many Sprites can be on the screen at once (you can close to the limit that it says, but it'll slow things down a lot if you do), and the second set of numbers says the number of 2 specific sprites, this is used to make Bigger Sprites not dissapear so much (for instance, it'll give the Hex # of; Big Boo, a Big Platform, a Rope Mechinism, etc.)

@ Dark Prince: The reason you're not able to set many Sprites down, is because the Sprite Header Mode you're using (0B) only allows you to have 4 Sprites on the screen at a time (Mode 0 is the best one to use in most situations, since it allows you to have up to 10 Sprites)

Just as a quick note though, the max sprites allowed on the "screen" at once is basically referring to the player's screen, not the screen boundaries for objects and exits that you get with F1/F2/F3. You can use those outlines as a general guide for sprite spacing if you like, since it gives you a basic idea of screen width... but if your max sprite limit is 4, you can't put 4 sprites on the far right of one of those screen boundaries and 4 on the far left of the next and expect the player to see 8 sprites at once in the actual game.
