As the Europian release date is drawing nearer and I've managed to hype up my pimp into near obsession over it, I'm starting to wonder if anyone else (Europian) is looking forward to it, and/or others who have the game already are glad they bought it. I was hoping it'd be a cheap buy, but given the amount of promo I've seen, it's doubtful. I'm very glad we're getting director's cut, as the extra additions all seem very promising (and likely, overly complicating matters, which will result in headaches for me, and my pimp digging himself into FAQ's and guides, allowing me to get a headstart ) It looks damned good for being 3D anime style, and how superficial it may sound, I'd want it just for that. Oh yes, I want them kitty thigh-highs. |

Well you should try Tales of Symphonia while you are waiting becuase I think they are similar in the styles. I loved the game but I never tried Star Ocean 3. Maybe it will be good maybe not.

I plan on getting Star Ocean 3 in the future, but as of now I don't want to play a game that is basically the same concept of ToS. Sounds good though, and one last thing... What is up with all this stuff about a pimp getting you stuff? Do you mean your boyfriend, because I could actually understand that. I have heard good things about the game though, but I have also heard bad things. I hope it is just better than FF10 . After Thought: Am I really that far behind the times? |

As far as I know, ToS never got released here. I'm just hoping they didn't just make a prettier version of SO2. I'll still play it and possibly love it, but I'll probably still feel a bit ripped off in the end, if that were the case.

Well that's his opinion, and here's mine. Although only having played the game for about 5 hours, I like what I see. By far the graphically best game I've ever seen. This far surpasses Suikoden III and Samurai Warriors. Haven't heard too much music yet, but what I have heard isn't making me turn the volume down. There's also voice-overs during conversation, and you have the option to turn them off, leave them on with subtitles, just use subtitles, etc. The battle system is completely fluid, much better than SO2. The storyline has been rather, odd so far. I'm still dubious about it. Plenty of comedy in it though. This shouldn't be a disappointment in any way. |

IMO this game is superior in every way to So2 except for the story and item creation.

To my understanding, you have to have played the previous Star Ocean games to really like this game from the start. Unfortunately, me and Sion kinda share a similar opinion. And since we've never played the previous games, I guess our views are from a SO newcomer's perspective. The graphics are great... The voice acting... I think it was pretty good.. except for the rampant pauses in everyone's speech... I was having trouble trying to get a grip on the story. I wasn't really ready to be getting the feeling that I was watching something with a very anime-ish feel to it. Took me a long to time to get adjusted to it. For the first five hours, I was constantly telling Sion that the game sucked. It was a bit of an exageration, but it was my way of saying that I've been spoiled on other games and this feels slightly like step down. I wasn't too thrilled on the fighting and the way statistics are thrown around. However, after a while, the game grew on me. The story seemed to have finally drawn me in, and we had discovered some secrets in fighting. The fighting felt more fun when you have more moves. You have to kind of use strategy in fighting.. And the gun toting character joined the group! Oh! I had so much fun playing as her! (I thought the wanna-be ninja was gonna be fun, but the ninja proved me otherwise ) But yeah.. all in all.. I think it's a great game, it just takes a bit to get settled in... And you have to get used to being a one person team, since whoever you're controlling seems to be almost useless in battle (even with different AI settings) unless you level up to the point where you're stronger than the enemies. I don't know if we had bad luck, but it just drove me nuts. |

I am the pimp. I've been wanting this game for a long while now, especially since I really liked the battle system and various details such as the skillsystem and the levels in SO2. And the fact that it looks good is never a minus I am so going to buy it. |

Youll like the story after a while. If you really like the battle system enough to level up for hours on end youll love this game.

Not again! >< But then again, it was closed before I made this thread, so meh <<; The story didn't seem to be that important in SO2 either, so I doubt I'm getting my hopes up too much, since I'm not expecting much in that area anyways. |

Yeah, I saw the thread last week and for some reason or another it was closed. Don't know why. Hey, I want to get this game but I heard the battle system was crap. Like, it's a big guessing game. The game here comes with one of the cardboard box covers. And it's shiny! |

The battle system requires some trial and error to get used to, unless you burry yourself in guides before you start. Or wait untill someone else figures it out for you >)

Yeah I got that shiny card board box too...its shiny!! The battle system is more like fight and fight until your at a high enough level so you can go on. Also leveling up is SLOOOOOWWW at fight youll only get 1 xp point per fight. I got sick of "camping" so I blitzed my way through a couple dungeons using my superior skills. Now Im in a Lava Cave where it takes me nearly 5 minutes to kill a single monster...and theres no regeneration points or stores and Im low on items. So my only hope in getting passed this part is to possibly blitz through<---nearly impossible now, or make way way ALL THE WAY BACK TO TOWN!!! Which will probably take an hour is avoid every fight and dont get lost...*sigh* I wish someone would level up for me. (edited by Master Sion on 09-29-04 03:46 PM) |

I loved that comic when I saw it XD From my personal experience, it's good to set the characters you're not controlling on different settings. They all tend to have their own little Ai quirks, so it can take a while before you figure out the best setting. I always, always control the healer. Then I set the main male, who always has the best moves and fighter stats for some reason, to attack all out. I can always refill whatever he needs with my healer anyways. I don't know if SO3 still works with profiency in skills, but if it does, try to specialize in certain moves (block out the skills you find worthless, if you can). You'll do more damage and execute it faster. Depending on how many people you can have in battle, it seems to be best to have two fighters to keep your opponents occupied, one mage who can cast both area of effect and single target spells (set on preserve mp or do nothing if you're low on mp restoring items), and a healer. SO2 wasn't feasable without a healer. |

Change his/her battle setting then, to heal friends only if that still exists and disable the sucky spells. AI loves them for some reason |
