We got to see the inside of a Z80, we got to look at the teacher's old fried motherboard, we got to see a video of a liquid nitrogen cooled 5ghz computer... This class is great. Anyone else have fond memories of their computer classes?

Every other week I spend the whole week in IST class, I goto a vocational high school, so yea...

Anyways Two of my favorite things to do would be spending all day to find which of 100 or so cat5 cables goes to which port on which hub. Our school has several wiring closets with 4-6 hubs/switches that were done by students and are horribly unorganized. Also taking help desk calls, half the time someone forgot to plug the printer in but still its fun to be able to freely walk the halls.

Must be nice to be in a high school where that's an option.

My best option going through high school in the small school I went to was probably either basic Excel or basic PowerPoint. It was because they didn't have anyone suited for that job.

At least I'm making it up now in college with C++ and the like.

My school didn't have great options as far as IT goes, and as far as I'm concerned, the whole curriculum here is really dull....

Oh well, I don't go to school, I do this thing I call "independent learning". I just learn what I want, when I want, how I want

It really is great by the end of this year im supposed to have my Net+, Server+ and Inet+ certifications. As bad as it may sound its usually ok only 2 of our closets are poorly organized and we get to work with equipment that I could never dream of having the money for.

Programming is something I could never do professionally, more or less it's a hobby to me. it's good to hear that the average high school Computer class is actually teaching something useful rather than the basics of right clicking.

EXACTLY!

See if it wasn't for that and I only used my high school knowledge...well...I'd be pretty bad off in a lot of things right now...

That reminds me of the very first time I discovered cut and paste. What a GLORIOUS day that was.

You should have seen me earlier. I was writing down urls and html code on a piece of paper.

When I first learned cut and paste, paste was "Shift-Insert". I still use it to this day and am annoyed when some programs dont let you use it,

Man, you guys are lucky! My school has 2 computer classes. In one you write really simple VB6 code and in the other you take apart an old broken computer and try to fix it. Yawn...

All my computer class teachers dosen't mind that I surf or do other things while in class as long I finish stuff. And usually we have more hours than we need so...

I tend to surf in the JAVA programming class, in the local network one we mostly play network games since we have too much time and very few things to do.

Sounds pretty similar to the classes my school offered back in the day. I learned a very small amount of C++ and ancient computer repair. At least I didn't have to try very hard to get good grades.

I spent a lot of my time in the computer repair class making animations with batch files and the DOS TYPE command, and in the C++ class, I played NESticle and used Visual Studio to modify Minesweeper:

It is some years ago when I had computer lessons ... but the last two years before the A-level we learned to program using Perl ...
It is nice, and some elements like that !#/usr/bin/perl (or somehow similar ) are even used today

We had internet access with Netscape 4.6 then, but no site was blocked or something; and when it was really boring, we used our machines like some kind of "messenger".

In Perl we made for everyone accessible files by using CHMOD 777, then we sent messages forth and back. Just refresh the file often and you can "chat"

I was learning C++ and VB last year. I loved C++, but VB was really tedious.

This year we're learning more in C++, starting some SQL, but I'm not sure about VB.

I'm also going to be learning Python
