half a year ago, when my mario kart hack was almost done, i promised to release my notes to the public once it was done. covered is: -text and driver names info and location -compressed track info and location -palette info -background scroll layer info -AI info and location -brr sample info and location in both spc ram and rom -compressed music info and location in both spc ram and rom -driver graphics -menu graphics -info on how to swap music around -some other stuff i forgot honestly, i forgot about that. i wouldnt say the demand for it was overwhelming, though. anyway, here it is, for completeness sake: http://www.mos-fx.de/zeug/snes/d4s_mariokart_info.txt have fun and mention me in your hack if you found any of this info useful. |

That's pretty cool. I always wanted to mod that game, particularly battle kart. I tend to be monogomous with rom hacking though. Once I'm finished with Zelda 3 I'll dump her and find a new love.

Heyhey! Another useful release by d4s! Really great, you released this stuff. And believe me: if I had known you promised doing so, I would have been there to show you there actually IS demand for such stuff!... This document ('specially the part 'bout the AI) could be quite usefull for Ok Impala wanting to create a whole new game of it. Ahhh... another thing: There's one bug in Mario Kart R that has never been fixed (at least to my knowledge). When Kirby gets stomped by some stone or spiky thing in SMKR, he turns into flat Toad! Is there no offset for some graphics-data to fix it? Or have you never been searching for it, d4s? By the way: what about releasing Starfox2 hacking data sometime in the future??? Originally posted by FloBo Ah, the city of Shangrilah. It was in my grasp at one time. (That is, a beta that worked half way decently.) Hacking it would be awesome but it's such a broken game, or perhaps the emus are incompetent. Who knows. |

Ok! This sure is very helpful! Thanks a lot! I've been working on my own offsets file too, but there are some nice offsets inside this document of stuff I hadn't found yet. Though there is still a lot of stuff to be found, take for example the congratulations screen. This sure speeds up the process of Epic Battle - Impala Kart Courses. I'll be sure to mention your name when the hack is released. |

Hey MathOnNapkins! Look here! http://agtp.romhack.net/starfox2.html Starfox2 is being translated by Aeon Genesis! And d4s is the one translating it into german. Why not trying to do some hacking beyond text and graphics?!?! Snes9X plays Starfox2 quite good and if you don't like emus, take a look at http://snesdev.romhack.de/sf2.htm This site is by d4s and you're shown how to build your own Starfox2-cart for your real SNES!!!! |

Originally posted by FloBoNo, it doesn't. Granted, it doesn't flicker, but their SuperFX emulation is WAY too fast. Just compare the original StarFox between ZSNES and SNES9X, and you'll see what I mean. Apparently, there was a special ZSNES release just for SF2, but I was never able to find a copy... |

My problem lately has being able to get a "working" copy. like one that doesn't freeze up every five seconds. There are different versions of the beta, I'm pretty sure.

I used that special version of ZSNES to play SF2 until the 1.4 of SNES9X was released. Of course it's faster than the original, but the SF2-version of ZSNES was horribly instable compared to 1.4 SNES9X (It simply solved the flickering-prob. But emulation of Starfox2 in general wasn't improved at all....) But hey! We'll just have to wait for 1.4 ZSNES-version to have the whole problem solved, ain't we? Alternative: build your own Cartridge!!! The original final-beta-rom hasn't had the correct size of 8Mbit, because it was just an unfinished beta. I think there are some hacked versions floatoing on the net, now that have 8.0Mbit size. Some others have hacked code, so that the Framerate isn't displayed anymore or something else... |

could this be the greatest hack ever created? anyway, it's amazing what you did. the themes are incredible. how long did you spend? good luck to everyone else in super mario kart creations, especially impala. it's good to know there are people still interested in this game besides time trials--http://www.mariokart64.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=SMK i guess the main problem i had was the courses were too dark. i know this project has been retired completely, but the themes fit well although my eyes couldn't adjust much. i noticed you couldn't alter the courses with trackdes, heh. thanks for all the rom info again. btw, could you change the code through ASM instead of hex? and did you find out how the items were distributed. we took a random sample of about 200 items in battle and came up with the probabilities. race seems to be governed by lap, when you released your last item, and the place you're in. ser found the hex driving data, but i guess he took down the text file. yeah, did you have to change the graphics bit by bit? i guess it could be faster if you were to edit code instead of change the graphics and sound. the shrinking clouds was a unique effect. i thought those spiky thwomps were like the ones on rainbow road at first. some courses had cheap lapskips cause of the shortcuts. maybe it would have played into the shortcuts more if you added more question marks. are you completely done with all mario kart projects? i'd eventually hope to make/see a 4-player version in a few years at least, but i wonder if it would max out the rom space. i know smk is smaller compared to the other ones. i know i can get a few people initallly from the french smk board and some from the english one, but i don't know how many of them want to spend a couple months on learning and programming. a lot of times people lose interest in games after spending way too much time on them. i think my friend emailed you a couple months ago about the AI checkpoints. nico_neufneuf at yahoo dot fr well, if you check sufamiheinz, you'll find them somewhere. if you ever want the hardest battle mode challenge or want to learn about some long boost techniques and shortcuts, we can play online. duffrageous@hotmail.com thanks. |

............. You're kidding me, right? Why do idiots specifically bump four month old threads? A little advise, READ THE FAQ! Is it really that hard?

Well it wasn't really a bad bump as far as I can tell. The link is apparently outdated.

I'll OK duffjr's bump in this case, since it was for a good reason. WolverineDK's post, however, was a totally useless reply to a dead conversation.

It's funny how a thread titled "mario kart documented" is mostly about Star Fox 2. The question is: Why bump it? |
