HERE IS THE BOARD FAQ. READ IT BEFORE YOU POST A THREAD HERE.

For anything that isn't in there, it will be answered in this thread.

Q: Why is shop.php hidden? Shouldn't they make a link of it?
A: Shop.php is just an experimental page that Acmlm is working on. It's not for anything.

Q: Could you make this forum or that forum or merge these two to make a-
A: Bring it up with an administrator, don't make a thread of it.

Q: But-
A: No.

Q: An admin banned a friend/removed something from my bio or sig. Why?
A: Because they have their reasons. PM them asking why, and don't make a thread of it.

Q: I need help with my Acmlmboard/I WANT ONE.
A: Then bring it over to the Acmlmboard programming forum. Don't ask in this forum or any other than the one I specified.

Q: CAN WE HAVE A SPAMMING FORUM?
A: No, and here's why.

Q: What do the levels and EXP signify?
A: Nothing. They're simply an algorithm that uses posts and idle time to make an interesting, yet useless, statistic. That's it.

Q: What do parenthesis around a username mean?
A: That means that the user is making threads and replies when they aren't logged in.

Q: What does Acmlm mean?
A: Acmlm is just a random sequence of letters Acmlm himself entered into a game for a name. Seems he just stuck with it afterwards.

Q: What are System Messages?
A: System messages are from the staff. Usually, if you get one, that means you are doing something wrong. However, you can always send a reply back if need be.

Q: How do I get my name changed?
A: Ask an administrator. Local Mods and Full Mods do not have the power to do so.

Q: What are spoiler tags?
A: Spoiler tags are used to hide important plots from stories and games. To use them, type [ spoiler] and [/ spoiler]. Obviously, you shouldn't have the spaces in there.

Posting a good newbie thread
A good newbie thread contains a "Hello!" along with a nice, short introduction of yourself. A newbie thread should not contain "Hi! I'm new!", you should avoid posting a thread of this nature.
Good example:
Hi, I'm new to this board. I looked around for a while, and thought this is a neat place. My name is Mike. I enjoy studying languages, watching Star Trek, posting at message boards, and even collecting board sources (odd hobby, eh? ). I hope I'll fit in well!

Note that you do not have to do this word-for-word, we want a personalised post.
Bad example:
Hello! I'm new! Hi!

This is too short, gives no description of yourself, and shows that you don't want to introduce yourself (if my own newbie thread was still here, I'd use it as a bad example )

The rules in short
  1. Be curtious to all other users. Do not discriminate them (aka "Flame" ) or other forms of insult
  2. Local moderators often have their own sets of rules on their forums, follow them.
  3. Listen to what administrators say to you.
  4. Use proper English, and don't write in 1337 or AOL-speak (u, ur, y in place of you, your, why, etc)
  5. Don't post anything illegal (ROMs, etc)
  6. Don't post any porn.
  7. Don't bump (post in) old threads
  8. Don't threaten to attack the board via hacking (besides, chances are you can't).
  9. Don't ask to be a mod/admin. If you do, you'll probably never be one.

Layout help
Do not ask for somebody to make a layout for you on the board. Or even in PMs, for that matter. Most people are too busy with normal lives to bother on making a new layout.

This does not mean, however, that you can't ask for help. When asking for help, make sure that you identify the problem (e.g. spacing problem, colour problem, etc).

Also, the header is not for doing something like this:
MegaMario123 wants to say: (post text)
This is very annoying. There are ways of adding text so that it is not difficult to find your post. (For example, I have darker text, making the actual post stand out) Finding a good way to make your header text less annoying is hard. If you can't find a good way, ask people for help or just don't add text.

When making a layout, here are some general rules:
  1. Don't clash the colours. They should flow together, to make the post readable.
  2. Don't play animated GIFs in your signature. They tend to get annoying real fast.
  3. Don't hide your post text down far below the header. Information is best on the side and bottom (setrodox has a good example of an easy-to-read layout)
  4. The layout should be compatible in all (or most) browsers. This means you should test it in IE, Firefox, Safari, etc. Don't stress if a border colour is off by a little. As long as you can read it, and the info looks as intended (or close to it) in all browsers, you're fine.
  5. Please, do not test your layout in a thread. Use the your profile page to see it. If you need scroll tests, PM yourself (yes, you can do that!) to see.

The Private Message (aka PM) system
IMO, this should be covered in the FAQ.

Private messages are like e-mail. You can send specific users, and only you and the reciepent (with the exception of administrators) can see them.

PMs can be used to contact a mod/admin abould rule-violating posts, say hi to a friend, etc. If you want to chat to a user, PM them. Don't start a thread.

When you click 'Reply' to a PM, the PM will show up in the style of a post quotation. Like most e-mail clients putting the original mail into a reply. You can also delete PMs via the, dun dun dun, 'Delete' link! I personally don't like to delete PMs. Some do, some don't.

If a PM sent to you is harrassing you, don't delete it. Report it to an administrator (via PM, who knew?) about it. They will check it out. In most cases, the user's sent PM history is checked, and they're often banned.

The End
Yes! I hope you read this! If you didn't, read the FAQ.

Edit by Danielle: I'd like to add that newbies who have made a thread in here before should NOT make another one if they are inactive for a while. We'll all see that you're back when you start posting again. Thanks.
