pretty much self explanatory. I'm trying to find more people who play starcraft, and then maybe we can talk about general starcraft strategy, since there are no other posts (that i can see) that are talking about starcraft.

It's much better

It's a lot like Warcraft except on a much larger scale. 80-unit armies for each player in the game is a fairly common event as opposed to in the warcraft series where 30 guys is a hell of a lot.

Also, there's no heroes, but still plenty of things to micro.

well, like witeassprinwow said, it's like warcraft, except it's got more of a sci-fi take, and you can get more units. I like warcraft too, but they're 2 completely different games.

What makes Starcraft so unique: Balanced races.

Something that 99% of other strategy games doesn't have. Face it, there isn't that many strategy games where the races are so different from each others without being clones or almost exact clones of each others.

I still play Starcraft BW best strategy is to build a good def, and alot of units and try to rush the other players. The best race to do that with I think is the Zerg. Build alot of mutalisks and rush them

Bwahahahahahaha. Rushing and defence? What a fool!

The best overall defence against the zerg is a group of 5 firebats, 4 marines and 3 nurses. Then you accompany that by having them set up around a small tank embankment. HAving these mobile emplacements are the best against the zerg which set up in one area and can't really colonize too easily. The terran on the other hand are totally mobile. There best defence against the zerg.f

Of course, anyone who says that the protoss are a fair race has never really played against them on a money map

Money maps kinda break the game though, so that's not the fairest of comparisons.

On a money map, the only resource of importance becomes the 200 unit limit. When you can produce buildings faster than everyone else to replace your units and your units have the most bang for the buck when it comes to the unit limit, of course you're going to win.

Actually, it's pretty interesting what happens in SC when you completely change which resource is most important. I made a map of mostly minerals and geysers, which formed the basic terrain. They were reasonably distanced from bases, so they didn't reach the absurdity of a modern money map with the stacked zero distance minerals. Anyway, in this map, things got very, very cramped. The most valuable thing became the terrain you could build on.

Zerg won that one hands down. I also put the bases a bit too close together, and the sunkens got a bit overpowered. I want to try a nice little cramped map again some time though, just with more space between bases, and some expansion areas. I can't decide if I'm going to use 1x, 2x, or 4x "standard" mineral/gas placement though (with standard being 8 mineral patches and 1 gas per expansion). While I'm a fan of the amount in most of the ladder maps, I think more minerals would probably prove my point better.

Mutalisk rush? That was fixed like, five patches ago. For BW that's like five YEARS ago. You'd get crushed with such a basic plan

Squash obviously knows what the hell he's talking about.

And yes, every little detail in SC / BW counts. The maps are based on a symmetical concept, but not every detail is perfectly symmetrical like in Warcraft 3. As such, you have to take terrain and position into account when playing.

When I was still playing, I was using Protoss in these maps. I've killed many people using a basic Zealot/ Defense strategie and never got beaten, until someone smart enough used Firebats.

And what I hate about fast money maps is, "Firebats on Workers" rush.

A rush is easy to stop.

Heres a tip if your playing non-money maps. It works best with zerg and protoss because their buildings dont require a unite to continue building.

Go build an extractor on the ennemie's gas ressource early in the game. Sure it might cost you abit of minerals, but it will delay his ability to get gas fast enough. Or he might change his stratagy completly and try to destroy your building. Try to cancel your building just before he destroys it.

Heres one when your playing zerg.

Instead of building an overlord when you have 8/9 units, build another drone. When he is in his egg, build an extractor with an already existing drone. Again, you will be at 8/9. Build another drone and cancel your extractor, you will now be at 10/9. This gives you an extra builder. An extra unit goes a long way early in the game.

I haven't seen much people who stopped my rushes. But it's been awhile, so it may be different.

And your strategy with the Extractor would work again me, I don't rely that much on Gaz.

Well, ive never been beaten on a rush, save for my earlier playing days.

And since you dont rely on gas that much, I would be through with you in 10 minutes.

It might work for money maps, but play a real game and you will get owned.
