I am starting a series of Yoshi's Island hacks. Right now I only have the intro and part of 1-1, but I have most of it planned out. Here are some intro screens...
(Note: Colors in the pics are darker then they appear.)

This is the new intro level,
Made in the style of 5-8.
It gives it a "continued"
feeling... sorta.

Looks a tad too glitchy if you ask me. The "Gronky" character is gltiched, and you misplaced some of the objects such as the castle walls. The walls need end tiles and they can't just float in the middle of nowhere.

Sprite number 1B9 (IIRC) is a 2P controlled sprite. It's built into the game.

Hooray! I'm making progress! Level 1-1 is a secret palace perched up high on Yoshi's Island's highest peak.

To KTurbo:
The reason his name is Gronky is because he is a glitchy thing. "Gronky" was the Crocomire Hunter's pet glitch in the Planet Zebeth sprite comic. Personally I think Gronky looks cool, with a dash of stupid.

To Golden Yoshi:
This is Gronky's home (note the hut). It doesn't have to make since. And I put everything where it is on purpose. When the demo comes out, you'll see the whole picture.

I plan to use a lot more levels with the Gronky twist (i.e. melt-away-ledge's cloud accessable only by Gronky). Of course, each level Gronky will change shape.

the lightness happen coz you saved the pic as a png in zsnes.

when you save pics from zsnes, save it as a bmp then convert it to png in paint, this way you won't get this lightness effect.

I didn't complain about Gronky's hut. The problem is that Gronky is a glitched sprite itself. I really don't want to play a hack where there'll be a glitched sprite, especially one that's in every level.

As for the 1-1 pics...

1st 1-1 Pic: Clouds above all other layers = bad + difficult to see things.
2nd: Same as above.
3rd: Same as above.
4th: Thorns are glitched, they need to have the end spikes on them. Fix this by not placing thorns on castle walls. Also, as I said before, castle walls need to be touching castle bricks in order to look good.
5th: Nothing impressive...
6th: Same as above.

Overall, not impressed.

I have to agree with GY on this one. Very glitchy graphics and stuff.

Intro level

1: ...put a door there... please... closed door, locked door... I don't care. Just looks bad.
2: Gah... glitchy!
3: Castle walls... badly positioned...
4: ...bad... just plain bad...

1-1

1: Clouds in front. Gah!
2: Bonus room? Better be...
3: Same...
4: fix the wall... use objects CC and CD to fix the bottom. Put at negative heights for both and negative width for CC.
5: ...
6: ...

Overall: Start over and don't use that 2P sprite unless you know how to always make it a Bandit in every level. Please make a serious hack first. This hack makes me think you haven't played with Eggvine too much. Not meaning to be mad, but it just looks bad...

I have finished 1-1 and Gronky is not in there. He will be in only about a third of them, give or take. In 1-1, he looked like two chunks of green water on the outline of a cloud. Plus, he's useless here.

I think I'll get rid of the castle wall and replace it with empty space to look better. I have a lot of extra space, so I'll just tweak it.

About the clouds, they give this very easy level a difficult twist. I tried snow, but it started raining white fire and water. If you don't like them, hit 3 (Just don't cheat on the secrets!). Besides, 80% of the secrets are behind the clouds. They move, so you can see more than you think.

Technically, the whole level is a bonus room. There are over 600 coins in this level, so it balances out the ridiculously hard helicopter part. There's about 170 in the first room.

The only reason I included the bridge is because I had nothing better to put. Of course, now I'll put more.

And I have played with Egg Vine a lot. Once I put a Boss Tap-Tap in the intro and it had a Barney Bubble for a nose. I shoved in a pit of lava and it exploded. I got 10pts. for the intro, which was under the controller, and then 1-1's icon vanished. Then, I put bombs above Yoshi... yeah.

I like the clouds over the layers idea. The obscurity can help to make the level harder.

At the goal (paused, duh). Hmm... 14 lives, 46 coins.
(1400-300)=11 lives (100 coins) and then add 46... wow... and that's only a fraction of them!!!

I fixed the spikes!

I like the cloud thing, but don't put it in every place possible. Leave some spaces open, like the REAL sky.

I wish I could remove some of the clouds, but there are only 2 rooms in 1-1 and 1 has the clouds. Also, I started 1-2... Another pic of 1-1 soon...

Much, much better. I am not really liking the clouds thing, but if it adds to difficulty, then...

You should at least add some castle walls in there... to give some decoration. That is just my suggestion.

I like the idea of a two player level, but the graphics should be fixed if you are going to use him. I just don't really like glitched stuff...

Now those screens look great! Great improvement! I just have one suggestion, fix the palettes of the tree trunks. They don't look so great. Other than that, good job...and I never new bubble plants existed. Nice work...have you discovered anymore sprites that were unused in the original YI?

My brother said that, though odd, are cool. Anyone have a guess of what these levels are based off? Also, I started 1-3:
