(Added 09-16-04) Riddle number two:  The first two letters of a certain word refer to a man, while the first three letters of the word refer to a woman. The first four letters again refer to a man, but the whole word refers to a woman. The first two, three, and four letters of this word are each words of their own. None of these words are names, and they're all English. What is the word? 2 pts SOLVED by Heian-794! (Added 09-16-04) Riddle number three:  A farmer has a fox, a goose, and a bag of grain. He must get all three across a river, but his boat is so small that he can only carry one of them at a time. If left unattended, on the same side of the river as the goose, the fox will eat the goose. If left unattended, on the same side of the river as the grain, the goose will eat the grain. (Nothing will run away if unattended.) How can he get them all to the other side of the river, with nothing being eaten? 2 pts SOLVED by MorbidMolly! What is it? 6 pts (Added 10-18-04) Riddle number eight:  You were given two bottles of pills, one labeled "Bottle A" and one labeled "Bottle B". The pills in these bottles are identical, except that if you take the wrong amount of either one you will die. You must take one of each pill each day, and no extra, or you will die. You already have a pill from bottle A in your hand, but when you try to get a pill from bottle B, two B pills spill out into your hand with the A pill and you lose track of which pills are which. The conditions are that neither man can touch or move the other one's mugs/glass, and Ransdell can't start drinking from his shot glass until Tony finishes his first mug and sits it on the table. Since Ransdell is the faster drinker, and he appears to have a clear advantage in the contest, he happily accepts the wager. After the men complete this contest however, Ransdell owes Tony a week's salary. How did this happen? 3 pts SOLVED by Jagori! | Sorry Gavin, it's not a shadow, but that's also a good guess. Congratulations Smallhacker, the moon is the answer! Lame-guess or not, you got it right... The moon is always trying to fly away from the earth, while it is constantly falling down to it as well... (that's kind of creepy if you think about it - if something hit the moon and slowed it down it would fall to earth!  ) The equalibrium that exists between it "falling" down and "flying" away keeps it in orbit. Of course, the earth is the moon's "partner" in space - and only one side of the moon ever faces us. As for the last line of the riddle, we all know that there is nothing on the moon to make any sound or to have any passion. Well that sums it up! Thanks for guessing, and I'll post another riddle in this thread soon! |

| I agree with Smallhacker on this one. The moon does not fall, nor does it fly away. It orbits. If it were coming towards us at all, it would come all the way. You make it sound like it makes a wave around the earth, getting closer then floating away again. | |||

| Just so ya know, you shouldn't put the riddle back in the first post. Make a reply stating who got the first one right and then put the new one, that way the newest post has the riddle. Some people may not even know it is up there. That riddle is confusing. You had to have worded it wrong. "The first two letters of a certain word refer to a man" at first I thought this was Mr, but that isnt the first two letters of a word. That is an abbreviation for Mister. So the whole thing doesnt make sense after that. |

(It wouldn't let make another post for a riddle since I had posted last. That's why I put the riddle in the first post, but now that I think about it I could have just edited my last post! | ooh,ooh pick me, I know the answer to number three: The farmer must take the goose across first, then go back and take the fox over. Then take the goose to the side that it started on away from the fox, and back with him to pick up the grain, then drop the goose off and take the grain to the other side. Then the fox would once again be left with the grain. Then he may bring the goose to the other side with all preasent and accounted for. Confused? say so and I'll try to word it better.
