Jacob's Ladder is such a fantastic movie. When I first saw it, I went into it expecting the wrong things (tons of grotesque and really strong imagery, in which there's only one scene in the movie that resembles Silent Hill). I wasn't sure if I liked it. But then I bought it and enjoyed it a whole lot more. One of my favorite movies now. I love how a lot of the horror is left to your own imagination, and it's freaky to go through what Jacob is experiencing.

I actually expected it to be Silent Hill-ish in the sense that the horror would be very psychological and perceptions and worlds would shift without explanation, so I thought "ZOMG teh win" as soon as that started to occur. I also noticed the scene that SH3 paid homage to. And I prefer horror left to the imagination, which is something that bugs me about some scary movies. For instance, the TV adaptation of Stephen King's IT was downright silly at the end.
Spoiler:
It represented a penultimate baddie with a doofy animatronic spider, whereas in the book, It was some fantastic nebulous being that pretty much seemed to exist outside of space and time. The kids actually fought it within their minds. Needless to say, this whole sequence was much more interesting and scary in the book.

I liked the Blair Witch Project because of the unseen and unexplained freaky crap, too.
Spoiler:
After going home, I creeped the hell out of myself trying to think of what the kids had finally encountered in that basement. I remembered the description of the witch all covered with hair, and I imagined some furry not quite human...THING with a beady black eye. I don't know why there was only one. But it really got under my skin.

A week ago, I ordered these CD's:

Stonegard - Arrows
Ektomorf - Instinct
Edguy - Hellfire Club

I got the first two in the mail just today, and the third should arrive in not to long. (Apparently they didn't have it in stock.)

I'm listening to 'Instinct' right now, and so far so good.

Yesterday I bought the Kanye West "Late Registration" CD. In some ways it lives up to it's hype, in other ways, no. I haven't listened to the full album. It has a decent number of tracks and so far I like most of them. There are a few that are a little too slow for me but he has numerous people that he has as guest spots such as Nas, Brandy, The Game, and Paul Wall + more.

I guess it was a good buy at $9.99 . I hope the rest will be good though . I haven't listend to all of it but from what I heard, College Dropout is still a little better but maybe the last songs on the album is what tops it.

I would have bought another CD but uhh..I didn't have enough money. I think next I'll buy the Mariah Carey CD.

Once Upon a Time in the West [Special Collector's Edition]
for $8 new!

Also, I don't think I ever posted that I got this some weeks ago:
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly [Special Edition]

Fantastic movie. FANTASTIC. This being the extended version, with some alterations, but you know...I can deal with them. I thought the new dubbing (for the scenes that were originally taken out of the US version before the dubbing could be done) was done really good. So since I watched this and loved it so much, I want to see more of Sergio Leone's movies, hence Once Upon a Time in the West above.

EDIT: I found out that Once Upon a Time in the West will be playing one night at a nearby movie theater (other movies I wanna see there on the big screen: Army of Darkness, Big Trouble in Little China, Seven Samurai, and John Carpenter's The Thing). Raaaaadical. Sergio Leone's movies are MEANT to be seen on the big screen.

Also bought these DVDs...

Jaws [30th Anniversary Edition]
Toy Story [10th Anniversary Edition]

Both for $10 each. How? Go to circuitcity.com and add any two DVDs priced at $14.99, and the price will be marked down to $20 for both together. Nifty.

EDIT:

Andrew Bird - The Mysterious Production of Eggs

EDIT:

Casting Pearls - Casting Pearls (for my good friend's birthday, the girl I wish was my girlfriend)
Relient K - MMHMM (same as above)

Uh...can I talk about CD's I've had for literally half a lifetime and finally got around to digging up and ripping? I got my first CD player for Christmas in 1991. 7th grade. I was addicted to the oldies channel at the time. I just unearthed the first CD's I got along with it.

Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons - Anthology - The Four Seasons were one of my favorite groups at the time, and I still like them very much today. (Yes, even Frankie's signature "love it or hate it" falsetto.) The songs are all unique and thoughtfully written, with lots of harmony and various unusual instrumentation. For instance, you'll hear some rattler ratchet thingie in "Ronnie" and an ocarina in "Big Man in Town". This CD holds a special place in my heart because I was obsessed with it and Crystalis at the same time. I'd put on the CD, turn down the TV, and run a good ways through the game. I don't think I could beat it in under an hour, but I got pretty far. For years afterward, I'd hear a Four Seasons song and think of some level or another. I've lost those associations, though. Maybe I should find a good NES emu for OS X...

Spanky and Our Gang - Spanky's Greatest Hits - I never listened to the entire album at a time. I got it for some songs that I still LOVE today. The most notable of these is "Lazy Day", which is basically a crack-coated aural rainbow. (I mean that in the addictive sense, not the "WTF were they on" sense.) This and my other favorite song from the CD, "Sunday Will Never Be the Same", feature nifty perty multilayered choral harmonies. And Spanky's voice rules. (Yeah, I am just a wee bit biased because she and I have very similar ranges, but it rules anyway. )

I reject your assertion regarding "Lazy Day", Rydain, and replace it with my own. That title goes to "Inside Out" by the Mighty Lemon Drops.

Oh, and I just snagged a bunch of stuff recently, but the winner is the soundtrack for 200 Cigarettes. Why is that? For the Harvey Danger cover of "Save It for Later"? The Blondie medley ("Rapture"/"Maria"/"No Exit")? Or is it for... track #8?

Why yes, it wins JUST because Girls Against Boys cover "Boogie Wonderland".

Other buys include:
* Dressy Bessy: "Electrified"
* Catherine Wheel: "Like Cats and Dogs" (also WINNAR)
* Supergrass: "Life on Other Planets", "Hear Are the Young Men" (1995 bootleg from Glastonbury and Sound City Bristol)
* Frente!: "Shape"

CDs::

Seether-Karma and Effect

Pretty good album all-around... I really like "Because of me" and "Remedy" (best song on the album). I first heard of this band off OSTs and liked their material, so I decidex to check out some of their albums and they're pretty good from what I hear (I've only heard their latest album and some songs off Disclaimer/Disclaimer II, namely "Sold me" "Broken" and "Fine Again").

DVDs:

Saw

I remember renting this movie on my 17th birthday, and now I get to watch it for the first time seince then. What a way to kick off finally being 17. Great film, and there's not much else I have to include here.

I'm so going to buy the whole Full Metal Panic set when I get cash.

One suggestion, buy Zombie/Zombi 2. Awesome movie: a shark fights a zombie, topless scuba diving and splinters in eyes. A true masterpiece.

Also, don't buy at Wal-Mart.
