CD: Kasabian - Kasabian (Listened to it for ages, might as well buy it.)

And the pirate I am, I'll just start listing stuff I've downloaded too.
Keane - Hopes and Fears (Gonna buy this when I find it. Good album, I like it.)
Dogs Die in Hot Cars - Please Describe Yourself (Haven't listened to it alot, but the songs I've heard I really like. Since there is a 0% chance of me ever finding this in a record store here, this will sadly go unbought for me.)
Razorlight - Up All Night (Been listening to this alot lately. I love it, if I find it I'll certainly buy it.)
Hefner - Breaking God's Heart (From 1998. Good album, but not as good as their later stuff.)
Haloblack - Throb & Tension Filter (Two good albums.)
Bloc Party - Silent Alarm (Fcking awesome album. Download now / buy when it is released!)

Fuckin' right throb. and >tension filter< are good albums. Well, the latter is OK anyway; I much prefer :funkyhell: over it, but throb. is probably my favorite from haloblack.

Since you're digging haloblack, I suggest h3llb3nt if you haven't listened to them already. It's got bryan black of haloblack, but also Eric Powell from 16 Volt, Jared Louche from Chemlab, and Charles Levi (bassist) from My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult. Hardcore Vanilla is one of my favorite electronic albums. It's very original and is pretty diverse. The other h3llb3nt albums are good, but nowhere near the masterpiece that HV is.

And, speaking of bryan black...he's been working hard on another band called xlover. They're pretty neat...not sure how to describe 'em, but they've got a chick vocalist, and Felix da Housecat has been doing production work for them. xlover's supposed to come out with a full length album soon, so I'm really looking forward to it and hoping that Felix co-produces (with bryan, since he's a phenomenal producer himself) the whole thing.

Just picked up a new CD to add to my collection today:

Breaking Benjamin-We Are Not Alone

Fave song? Oh, right. I like every song, though my fave is problably the opening song: "So Cold". One of the few CDs in which the opener is the best song on the entire CD.

And it has it's fair share of mellow songs, and excellent heavy ones.

So far in 2005:

CD
Neil Young - Greatest Hits
Neil Young, one of the most influential rock-artists of all time, and this great collection. I can listen to this over and over again. Hey Hey, My My is one of the greatest songs ever made.
Suede - A New Morning
To be honest, I haven't had much chanse to listen to this yet, but it certainly seems like it has some nice songs, with the Suedeish touch we all love.

DVD
October Sky (Starring: Jake Gyllenhaal, Directed By: Joe Johnston)
A very touching story about a boy's fight to get out of a town with no future and a career-path that will lead to his death. I've seen this movie twice, and I've cried at the end both times, not many movies are able to touch me that much.
Donnie Darko - Director's Cut (Ltd. Edt. 3d packaging) (Starring: Jake Gyllenhaal, Drew Barrymore, Directed By: Richard Kelly)
What is there to say about this movie? I just hope I'll be able to actually understand it if I get it and watch it some more times
Dogma (Starring: Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Salma Hayek, Chris Rock, Directed By: Kevin Smith)
This movie is simply hilarious. The best movie in the "New Jersey Trilogy". Besides, I haven't seen it for ages, so it was about time I got my hands on it.
Divorcing Jack (Starring: David Thewlis, Directed By: David Caffrey)
Basically, this newspaper columnist, Dan Starkey, finds himself in the middle of a political game in explosive Northern Ireland, where he must try to appease both terrorists and corrupt politicians, while also trying to survive and save those he loves. Dark British Comedy at its best.

CD:
Papa Roach-Getting Away With Murder

It's hilarious to listen to Papa Roach fans, especially those who quit on the band after the members failed to replicate their first major label album, Infest, on follow-up Lovehatetragedy. And even now, the fans of Lovehatetragedy are raising their own pitchforks because Papa Roach has done it again: changed their sound. Choosing to ditch the rap-metal angle altogether, Papa Roach has now refined their sound to add more pop-punk elements to their already established hard rock core. This of course doesn't mean the band is becoming a Blink-182; heavy tracks like Blood and Be Free prove that, as well as the title track, which could have been a Lovehatetragedy b-side. However, it's quite refreshing to hear Jacoby Shaddix belt out more heartfelt numbers like Scars and Sometimes alongside anthemic tracks like Not Listening and Do Or Die, and when the band gets knee deep into songs like Stop Looking and Blanket Of Fear, it becomes obvious that they're on to something special. Could Papa Roach have released another rap-metal album like Infest? Of course they could have, but Getting Away With Murder finds the band tighter and more able than ever before, proving that change is never always a bad thing.

Some songs are better than others (highlights include, but not limited to: Scars, Not Listening, Be Free, Done With You, and, of course, the title track), but virtually every song is at least good on here. You just have to listen to it twice for them to grow on you and to go with the flow of the melody/lyrics of these songs, but songs like Scars, Getting Away With Murder, and the lyrically and vocally emotional "Be Free" should tickle any listeners fancy first time listening.

DVD:

Troy-What can I say? Excellent overall film. Visuals, acting, Orlando was great as usual. They always pick him for strong roles in such flicks as Lord of the Rings (trilogy), Pirates of the Carribean, and, of course, Troy. He's one of the few of his kind who's proven he's capable of playing such a strong hero in each of these movies.

About Kasabian: MORE MORE MORE! I've only heard "Club Foot" so far...

* Audiovent: "Dirty Sexy Knights In Paris"
* BT: "Movement in Still Life"
* Fishbone: "Fishbone & the Family Nextperience Presents the Psychotic Friends Nuttwerx"
* Glassjaw: "Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Silence"
* Tribe Called Quest: "The Love Movement"

All for $11. BT was a buck because it was just the CD and booklet in a slimline case. Well, that's all I save, except for the case...

I gotta say it was a good day.

* Catherine Wheel: "Wishville"
* Idlewild: "The Remote Part"
* Kinky: "Kinky", "Atlas"
* Postal Service: "Give Up"
* South: "From Here On In"
* Talk Show: "Talk Show"
* They Might Be Giants: "John Henry"
* Wannadies: "Be A Girl"

AND, in fact, there was not a jacker in sight, either. So that's just a bonus.

(Not because of the CD's, mind you.)

Let's see, I recently updated my DVD collection with 4 more DVDs. Two music-DVDs from a band that I enjoy very much (Live By The Sea and ...There And Then, both Oasis concert recordings from the mid-nineties), and two classic movies.

The two movies that I bought are movies that should belong in any respectable collection.
The first is The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly (the special edition). This is a classic that shouldn't actually need an introduction, since, well, everyone should have seen it already. But, well, it's basically about these three guys during the American Civil War, and their road to a fortune in gold (very generally speaking). Basically, "this is not a cowboy-movie, this is the cowboy-movie".
The second movie I bought is The Longest Day, another movie that really doesn't need an introduction, as it also one you should already have seen. I dare you to find me a movie with a cast with more stars, though, I'd be very impressed. For those who don't know this movie, it's about the Allied invasion of Normandy on June 6th 1944 (the D-Day), and though it may not be as visually stunning as Saving Private Ryan (it is, after all, a black/white movie from 1962), it kicks ass like nothing else story-wise.

A winner is me.

* Outkast: Speakerboxxx/The Love Below
* Beatles: Anthology 2, Anthology 3
* Snapcase: End Transmission
* The Mars Volta: Frances the Mute
* PJ Harvey: Uh Huh Her

I'm also waiting on the following to arrive (via eBay):

* Girls Against Boys: House of GVSB
* REM: Up
* Woodstock '94
* State of the Union

That last one is a benefit compilation put out by Dischord, including DC bands like Fugazi (FUCK YES) and Shudder to Think (Haven't heard 'em, but maybe YES?). And this is the THIRD copy of that Outkast album I've had. First one I got a week before it came out, realized it was edited, and gave it to my girlfriend. Second one was a mistake, for I won a giveaway on a friend's blog (I was supposed to get that Neptunes compilation, ...Clones) and he sent me the pre-release version of said Outkast album. Sold that copy on Amazon. This one, mercifully, is the dirty dirty version (sorry Mos Def, I'm not getting crunk with it).

Just got back from FYE (yes, that's right; FYE bitches! lol just kiddin' ) with these CDs and one DVD.

CDs
Fear Factory-Archetype
Breaking Benjamin-Saturate
Killswitch Engage-Alive or Just Breathing
Killswitch Engage-End of Heartache, the

DVD
Resident Evil: Deluxe Edition

KSE is great, both their old singer and their new (Howard Jones scream may not be as powerful as Jesse Leach's, but I love his singing). Their randition to the slowly rising New Wave of American Heavy Metal is set to inspire many more great bands in the future, instead of the blatant aggressive nu-metal (though I like Breaking Benjamin; problably the newest of the "nu-metal" that I like). The singing is, at times melodic, like the heartfelt title track, which is aggressive while, at the same time, poetically artistic ("see me.... call me... I'll be waiting.... for the end of my broken heart... see me... for comfort... for summer... I'll be waiting..."). Just listen to the CD and you'll see for yourself just how good of a mix these different styles can be blended intogether. And don't forget to check out their earlier works, too. While their latest release is arguably the best thing to come out of KSE yet, their other stuff is very good as well.
