Some of you may recognize me as the one who made the first MegaMan4 hack ever posted on the Internet. Well, I got some good news. I've been working hard on my next hack, MegaMan3, and here I'll show you some of the results. Screenshots.

Some huge differences from MM4 to MM3 is that you can't charge your shots, and of course, the weapon types are different. In my MM4 hack, you had to use your items a whole lot to get far. Not entirely so this time. While getting the other items are useful, the main focus of this hack is to make the player think. I've supplied a bunch of puzzling areas throughout the levels, places that will make you stop and think of how you're going to get past.

I call this hack, Megaman Legends 3. Here are some screenshots, starting with Snake Man.

This is the very beginning of the level. I really had fun with the editor this time because you can place enemies from any level, in any level you choose. I believe that barrage-shooting enemy appeared nowhere in the real Snake Man.

Drew my own spike graphics here. And boy, is this part hard! Like I said, you have to stop and think for some areas-- jump too high and you'll hit the ceiling spikes instead.

Here is when I changed the sprite colors for the snake enemies. They started out with green heads, like usual; I had to change their colors so they'd match the level palette. Just a small fun fact.

Okay... Before you say anything, I just thought needles would be fitting this level. I like to take enemies from other levels and put 'em wherever.

Don't hit them spikes!

I did it again, didn't I? Sure, a magnet in Snake Man's level is weird, but like I said, I was having fun. I'll do the same trick in Magnet Man's level if it makes you happy. Next is Gemini Man's level, which I REALLY had fun with.

Ah, the saturn... Strangely enough, these graphics came with the game. They just never appeared in the bg for some reason. I fixed that. The pit is really close to the start...

...and it leads you to a watery cavern. There are penguins in the water that fly after you.

You have to get through another above-ground section later on, and when you do, you must trust in Schwa's big floating name to get past. Muhuhaha... putting my name in the level... ingenius!

Upside-down water. It happened in MM6, Centuar Man's level had it... so it would be perfect to put it in another mysterious place like Gemini Man's level. Now screens for Needle Man, the last ones I have for today...

Taking out the cloud graphics that existed and replacing them with cloud carpet graphics, I easily turned Needle Man into a sky level. The platforms are treacherous!

The second phase is full of those dragonfly enemies and flying Hardhats. Sky levels have to have flying enemies, right?

I took the spikes from Dark Needle Man's level, and put them here. It worked really well.

That's all I have to show you. I also want to add that I figured out how to change the title screen, and the stage select screen, and they look quite different after Schwa took care of 'em. Please, your feedback would be most appreciated. Criticism too, as I need some to improve my work on the game.

Thank you. --Schwa

Hey wait, don't leave! I've got more snaps. Sorry it took so long, I haven't worked as hard as I wanted to. But man, these levels are gonna be sweet puppies. Here's Spark Man's level.

This level introduces the junk blocks more than before, used in creative ways. Time those jumps. Spark Man's level also requires the use of Rush Coil quite a bit, and some of these timed jumps are with the coil.

Eesh, looks tricky. Notice the new spike graphics? They came with the origonal Rom, but weren't used.

Only a true timing master can do this without taking a hit. That's me.

These junk graphics were the same as the spikes. This area will feature a unique enemy found only in Wily level 4 in the origonal.

Now look at Magnet Man's level... only a few snaps here.

The first area will make you really think. Ahead are some treacherous jumps that can't be jumped over without special tools. It's really hard to do without taking a hit.

Oh great, two magnets right across from each-other. Running through this part fast is fun!

These enemies are from Gemini Man's level. I figured they were all-terrain enemies.

Next, Hard Man.

The beginning part features some tough jumps.

By this time I figured, why not change the sprite colors to be more unique? The ape's colors are changed to be realistic.

This place is called a Zigzag Shaft, and you'll see why when you play the real game.

You'll go outside again, and the jumps are even harder.

The last screen before the boss. Yikes! How are ya gonna do this without getting hit?

Top Man's level.

The begining section has way more top-like things than before. Hey, Top Man needs tops.

Spikes came with the game, I recolored them. Anyway, this room gives me goosebumps every time.

There are LOTS of spikes in this level now.

I did the beanstalk graphics myself, and set aside a special palette just for them. Wow. Look closely at the screw enemy and you'll see that it's purple now.

This is almost to the boss room. (The ladder color is not like in the screenshot.)

That's all I have at the moment. Compliments/criticism is appreciated. --Schwa

Wow, Schwa. Its cool when stored graphics that are unused are implemented in hacks. You sure do like those spikes, huh? They look good, and tricky! I also like your new ape palette and beanstalk graphic. Cool work.

At last, someone was going to make a quality mm3-hack (not any graphic flaws or glitches or something). Schwa: your work is a masterpice. Nothing bad to say at all, I really want to play this one...

Just one notice: The stones on picture 2 of Hardman's stage seems to not match each other (the ceiling / floor blocks), but that's only a minor sight. Even if you really want criticism, I can't see anything other wrong with the pictures...

Anyway, keep up the good work, we all want to play this finished

Thank you, thank you all. I haven't had much time to work on the hack recently, but I want to share some more of my progress. Thanks to the fact that I recently learned Hex editing (Thanks Googie!), I've managed to change the names of the levels. But I'm not too happy with my name for Spark Man's level... The tricky rule is that the first word is up to 6 letters long, the second word up to 4. It's kind of limiting, but the other 7 names are good.

The thing is that I'm naming the LEVEL names, not the boss names this time. Does anyone have an idea for Spark Man's level name that's better than "Mecha Web"? I'll have a screenshot of the stage select screen soon so you can all see what I've got.

This looks really really sweet man. Keep up the good work.

I like the fact that you used graphics from the ROM that weren't used in the actual game.

Hey, I just want to show you how the Select Screen looks now. Tell me if you find it... interesting.

Half-credit goes to Googie. Without him and his help, I wouldn't be able to change the names. He's the one who taught me text hex-editing.

Now, does the boss look better when he's green, or when he's blue? All the boss colors are slightly changed.

Since I changed the names of the levels, I thought it would be appropriate to make the levels fit the names. The brick background is now tiles, which are more dojo-like.

Right after the Protoman battle. I made most of the shadow domes not move.

That shadow dome is right about to go off. How are you gonna defeat it without Magnet Missile or Search Snake? There IS a way.

That's it. I'm working on the Dark Levels next. I'll tell you when I'm done with those. --Schwa

I must say Im quite impressed with the look of the design of the levels. Too bad there's not a demo yet. Seems you put some good work into this to make sure the levels look right. But the "level" names and the boss name (Snazzydojo?) seems a bit out of place considering the quality of the screens.

Well Daise, the boss names ARE the level names, actually. The name "Snazzydojo" had to be one word because that string can only be 10 characters long. Same with most of the other levels.

Gatomon, yes I do know where to find the editor. Go to www.zophar.net, one of the greatest ROM hacking utility sites on the web, and look for the Megaman Full Level Editor, or MegaFLE. This awesome, awesome editor can edit Megaman 3, 4 and 5 levels, graphics, enemies, and lots of other stuff. You'll have to play around with it a bit to learn how everything works, but I tell you, your best friend in making a Megaman hack will be experience.

At last after editors have been available for almost 4 years, I'll finally be able to play a really nice complete megaman 3 level hack. All I can say is really great work.

I'm pretty good at finding offsets that tell how enemies behave among other thing, if you'd like any help with something, then feel free to drop me a line on MSN messenger at bbitmaster@hotmail.com

In any case, I'm really looking foward to this.

Well KTurbo, I looked at the TEKHacks board and the data stuff looks great, but I don't think I'll be changing any sound effects. Bbitmaster, I may just take you up on your offer, so look for a PM if I decide to ask for some help.

This weekend I haven't been able to work on the hack, since I've been at my dad's house in Redmond (and I live in Spanaway). But thanks for all the support. My progress so far: Dark Gemini Man's level is half-finished, all 8 origonal levels finished. And of course, the text changes and a few obscure graphic and palette changes.

Best part: No bugs! No bugs at all that I can find! The only weird thing is the text background doesn't match the bg when you select a level. But there's nothing that will get in the way of gameplay. Stay tuned, folks, I'll have this thing finished soon. With school having started, it may take a little while, but trust me, this thing WILL get done.
