I've completed a new version of Egg Vine, v0.80.

This version makes the filter case insensative, and adds support for objects with negative sizes. You'll notice that many levels look much, much better now, and that certain slopes are reasonable to work with.

Egg Vine Webpage

Enjoy it, as I may be a while before I can release another one.

One thing I just noticed, i'm kinda annoyed how it defaults to the My documents folder. But that's maybe is something beyond your control. It's just a little annoyance.

Slopes are not easy to generate as I can see, many slopes aren't generated correctly or looks litte diffrent from the game. But they do give a helping hand.

And things just seems less messy now, great job.

*checks first level of YI hack with new version*

Problem with object E6: Slope is placed in the wrong direction...

I like the new additions and stuff like that. Although I would recommend making the pipes at least a width of two in the editor as they do take up two spaces.

And for sprite 36, it says in the editor "Something that falls down and makes a sound, and... another layer 3 killer". Shouldn't that be the wall in 1-4 that falls on Yoshi when you pass by it?

I changed the E6-E8 series of objects to fix their slopes. You can do it manually if you don't want to redownload.

However, to be perfectly honest, I liked the old site better.

Indeed, the slopes aren't perfect, but I think we'll all take this over the 80+ wide slopes . I don't know how to change the default folder, but I would if I could, My Documents annoys me for a multitude of reasons.

Yep, it's one of many places in the game where players are rewarded for doing the oposite of what seems expected - in this case, pushing the chomp the wrong way. Who knew Miyamoto was such a rebel?

Every time I try to open Eggvine it says: Component "COMDLG32.OCX" or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid

Umm, anyone know how I can fix this problem??

You must download this file and put it in your program directory. Search in google.

That's a VB runtime file. You should search Google for VB runtimes and install them properly.

Mario Maniac's solution will most likely not work.

Heh, I guess I was wrong ;;

Read the message that comes up before you load a ROM. That's right, you need to use Yoshi's Island v1.0 (U).

ROM requests are banned by board policy.

However, you shouldn't have any problems with viruses and adware. If you're using Internet Explorer, stop and use Firefox, becouse it doesn't have the security holes that let viruses and adware into your computer. Otherwise, just remember that the ROM has the .smc file extention. If you get a .exe, it's most likely not something pleasant.

So go Google for "Yoshi's Island v1.0 (U)"

I sort of figured out what that last unknown is in the Header Editor. It deals with mid-ring points. Somehow, some levels use this for the midway entrance (1-3 uses 32 there). I tried it in 1-3, when I put a mid-ring at the entrance (NOT THE CAVE PART!) and set the last part of the header to 32. It brought me to the same place as the original (the cave), but set it to 0, it sends me to 1-1 at the top left corner. Now this is just weird... I don't know what is what or stuff, so if someone has the patience to figure out how this works, go ahead. I am too frustrated to figure it out...

Also, is there a reason when you load up a rom in Eggvine, some of the objects have to be either a width of 2 (Poundable log, left and right corner) or a height of 2 (object D) when they aren't supposed to be?

Also, the Right Corner can be modified via the corner, so you can change the width while changing the height. That should be fixed.

I'm not sure if anyone's figured it out, but I have an idea what that second unknown value in the header is for... or at least party, if not fully.

Setting that value from 32 to 63 makes the chomp rocks brown--the kind that "remember" where you left them when you travel off-screen. Other values make the chomp rocks the normal "grey" type--the kind that forget where you left them when you travel off-screen, and will return to their original position.

Might be useful for some of you, and as far as I can find in these threads, there's been no mention of this....

Squash Monster- I have a problem when I try to open the program you made,it said I was missing another file like VBVMS60 or something. I d/laoded that one and then I got a message that said my version of COMDLG32.OCX may be outdated and I d/loaded it, and I keep getting the same error w/out being able to open the program. I don't think it has to do w/my ROM or anything so can you try to help me? Should I have put the first file in the same folder as Eggvine?

Cpubasic- I don't know exactly why,but maybe 0 is just the starting place for the game, at the beginning of 1-1. I don't know if the Welcome part before that is a level yet,but based on what you said, I don't think it is. It just seems obvious for the program to do that, but I don't think it's supposed to do that if you did it in 1-3. Oh,and I think I noticed yesterday 1-1 doesn't have a middle ring, but I don't know if that has to do w/anything. I'm not like an expert on those things.

The Welcome stage is an editable level. It's indexed as 39h. In fact, every stage is editable, including boss rooms.

The main part of 1-1 is indexed at 00h, so it makes sense, to an extent, that 0 in the header will place you in 1-1.

OK, I just downloaded this (and YI 1.0) and am making notes as I go.

-ROMNation's "vote or your rom won't work" thing is BS, just put in the number and hit download.
-After opening a ROM once, the open dialog started where I left it. I think WinXP does that.
-Pressing the arrow keys should scroll the level.
-When the Object List Window is shown, the object list on the main window should disappear, making more level space.
-Nice way to confirm clearing the level.
-When switching back and forth between windows the object list window disappears.
-Load/Save Level should be under File.
-Either it won't switch to Screen Exit Mode, or the menu's not showing that it has. I see no difference.
-The Small Grid and Transparent Wireblocks options pwn.
-The Stationary Tooltip option is buggy, the tooltip flickers in its original position. It's also ugly.
-After changing Zoom to 4x, then to 8x, the vertical scrollbar is disabled. Ono.
-That startup message really isn't necessary every time, use the registry to save whether the program's been run before.
-"Fetch Me A Badger".
-The About screen really doesn't need a Cancel button.
-When the program is first opened, neither Cross-Section Mode or Screen Exit Mode are checked.
-The options, window size and number of badgers need to be saved, dammit.
-The tooltips get cut off at the edge of the editing area.
-The level number should be displayed in the title rather than the ROM name. (Ex: "Egg Vine - Level 00")
-Resizing objects is touchy and seems to take a few tries. Getting the cursor right on the corner is a pain, and the object should be redrawn as it's resized.
-I'm happy to report that the level was edited successfully. It's rather difficult, though, since the level itself looks nothing like it does in the editor.
