Well... thanks to Squash Monster's editor, I have started a Yoshi's Island hack. I have already finished one level, and am now working on the next. I have completly erased the first level and started it from scratch, so it won't really look like the original. The second level has a different FG.

And here are the screens:


Beginning of 1-1

Making a bridge...

Simple running puzzle...

Helicopter Navigating.

Beginning of 1-2. Placing down that Chomp was hard...

This is just a standard hack of YI... story is somewhat same... or will be the same. All I know is that this will be a very different version of YI.

The screenie 3 remember the secret level from World 2. The helicopter navigating is a awesome idea! And about the chain chomp screenie, remember me an another level (I can't remember which). My favorite from all is the first. I liked the combination of things. In the general, the screenies are amazing!

Thanks everyone. The first demo will be released when all of world 1 is done. I want a bigger demo than the others. A demo might be out in a week.

And the palettes weren't that hard to do (random number in the header and seeing how it looked). The levels aren't that hard, though, but then again, this is the first world... so it should be easy.

I'm not crazy about the FG palette in 1-1. But the levels look good, and I like the FG palette in 1-2, looks cool.

Aww...damn. I was using the same concept for my 1-6 level. It had the chomp sharks and the chomp shark chasers, and I used the same puzzle as you. That flower in the first screen must be attained by having a chomp shark crush through the ground. I did the same thing in 1-6, only with a red coin. But I'd recommend for that flower you use...oh wait, why should I give away my ideas...I'm trying to make my hack better....

The second images is better than the first. The second screenie was very fun! The Yoshi is running! But the best image is the 7. Is amazing!

I think you can use enemies that wasn't used much in the original game, like Blizzard Lakitu, Bashfuls or the yellow and red cannon shooters.

That is a good suggestion, Mario Maniac, you should use some rarely used (or never used) sprites. Here's a list of my suggestions for some really cool enemies to use:

As Mario Maniac said: Blizzard Lakitu, Bashfuls, and Red and Yellow Shooters.

Others:
1. Blob Friend (That purple glob from 5-4 that you ride on top of spikes with)
2. Platform Ghost (Also from 5-4, that ghost with the platform on its head that rides you across the room)
3. Slugs from 5-4
4. Goo Buddies from 5-4
5. Blindfold Boo
6. Sparky
7. Big Tap Tap
8. Purple Bubble Blob from 3-7
9. Boo Balloons
10. Fat Shyguys
11. Tall Thin Shyguys

I think I covered all the ones I wanted. These are some really cool enemies you may want to use, have fun!

I was planning to use the Big Tap Tap. I was planning on using a lot of those sprites!

I now have a story... somewhat. Here is what I have done of it so far...

Okay, all that needs is a refrence the the requests for GFX in the editor and maybe something else and it will be the perfect intro! It's a challenge to try and edit the intro into a new story with only text hacking, so you have to be smart, funny, or just lucky to be able to make it good.

I've got some others that are rarely used:
Harry Hedgehog, 3-6;
Pirhana Fishs (I think is a fish), 3-8;
Aqua Lakitu, 3-8;
Slimes and Salvo; (I think the slimes only appears in 1-8 and 2-8);
Flyer Wiggler, 4-1;
Chain Chomp, 5-4;
That yellow things with a face masked with brown from 5-4.

Yeah... I would edit it more, but so far... that is all I am going to do. Editing text in a hex editor is a tedious process as it is, so I tried to be as funny as possible.

I was definitly going to use Aqua Lakitu, as they are cool anyway. The Flying Wiggler... will make a cool puzzle for something. Harry Hedgehog will be in it. So will a few others... hopefully...

For the text, just go to this page. Type in the text you're looking for or the text you want to replace and it will generate the hex that YI uses.

Note: This does not include special graphics/characters, like ( ! ) switches, ( ? ) clouds, pictures of Yoshi, start/select/(A)/(B)/(X)/(Y), etc. etc. I don't feel like adding them either, so you'll have to look at the text table for those

Edit: I forgot to mention that the common punctions ( ! . , ; : ? ' " ) are included.

All I have to say is that this is the best story ever

Im liking how this hack is coming together, even if it IS only a few levels. Its nice to see the chomps used . They were by far the best part of the game.

And as a side note, Im hoping you make a few more aqua mini-levels. Those were fun, and the submarine is so neglected

I would use that, but I E2 E5 E6 EE almost all the letters in hex.

I liked the chomps and wanted to make a full level of them.
Submarine levels... about one every two worlds or so... or maybe in one level I am making where you have to go from a helicopter to a car to a sub to a mole or something like that...
