It started earlier this year, when I started skipping breakfast because it took up too much of my before school time. I found myself eating less and less, and eventually over this summer I just stopped.

At first, it was fine, I wasn't really bothered by it, and I ate enough to survive. I had meals my mother cooked me, I ate lunches, it was just my breakfast. But then gradually I started giving more food to my friends, and keeping less for myself.

When summer hit though, my mom was home less often, and I found myself fending for myself. It was around then I decided to try vegetarianism too, so that took a huge chunk out of my diet, there was so much meat in my house and nothing much else to eat. On occasion, like when i was with my friends, I'd eat a good bit, but when I got home it was back to scarce meals. I didn't really notice it that much either, until today.

I was at Warwick Mall, playing my usual hit or two of DDR, when suddenly in the middle of a song my legs just give out on me, and i nearly fall to the mat. I grabbed the bar at the last second, and suddenly I got hit with this wave of fatigue, and I had to stop playing. It was then that I realized that the last decent meal I had was one my friend's mother cooked for me. I went home, and just now I made myself a huge sandwich with plenty of side dishes. I need to eat.

I think I have a slight case of anorexia, I'm just a little afraid to eat because I'm afraid to gain weight. I lost like 15 pounds since the start of the summer vacation, and I want to keep it off. But I'm afraid that if I eat, even eat healthily, I won't be active enough to keep the weight off. I don't think I need help for this, I'm not really as afraid as I seem, it's just that I want to lose more weight and I don't want to stop eating entirely just to do so. In fact, I just realized how much I'm endangering myself for it...

So yeah, from here on in I need to eat more. I'm gonna start getting my appetite back on track, so that I can have regular meals again without any danger. I can't eat as much as I used to, for some reason I just can't fit as much food in my stomach now, I think it's because I'm so used to not eating. But I have to do something before I waste away.

Why do you want to lose weight?
What's wrong with your current weight?

And yes, eat more!
Losing weight so fast just by cutting down on your food is extremely unhealthy -- if you want healthy weight loss, you have to eat right (that doesn't necessarily mean "less", btw), and exercise more. Even the best diet is no substitute for exercise.

I had the same problem about a year ago. I only ate about every two to three days, and I frequently got sick. The last time that it happened, I got sick and my stoach hurt so bad that I just wanted to die. That's when I realized that what I wa doing was unhealthy. I don't know wether or not you do it intentionally,, but I didn't. My advice to you is, start making yourself eat more. That's what I did, and I'm all better.

I used to skip at least one meal per day. Until recently, I got sick and felt weak. For everything I ate, I felt better. So food is good for you, It won't kill you.

I eat dinner. Sometimes breakfast or lunch.

I'l also about five-fifteen pounds underweight, but I've noticed no real problems. No fear of gaining weight - I openly acknowledge I need to - I just don't ever really feel like eating, and when I do sit down to eat I have almost no appetite.

THat said, the situation you're in sounds even worse. If nothing else, at least eat dinner and a small lunch, or just a large dinner. Work up to at least two normal meals a day, eventually. One should be enough, but probably not healthy. (although it seems that the more I eat the more often I become sick, that's probably school food. )

Yeah, I know I need to do that, I'm definitely trying to work my way up, but I've found that when you stop eating, your stomach gets used to not having so much food in it, so I can't really eat as much as I used to because I get full way too fast... And after that I start to feel sick. What used to be a normal meal for me started to make me want to throw up, I think this might take more than a little while to get back on track.

I had to live on milk and yoghurt for over a year, and it was very hard for me to start eating properly again, but I can give you a few tips
* Drink alot. Really alot. If you really can't eat much, then make sure you stay hidrated. Nothing's more annoying than rushing to ER because of dehydration.
*Cook your own food, and if you are vegetarian, make sure you have alot of vegetables in it. Google for recipes or buy some cookingbooks. Salads are nutricious and light enough for your shrunken stomach, so go wild in those.
*Have something light for breakfast, but wait an hour or two after you got up with it if you can, so your stomach can 'wake up' too. If you really can't eat, try to drink milk. I always have chocolate milk, because they usually throw in some extra vitamins, and I kinda need a regular flow of sugar.
*Go groceryshopping with your mom, and buy things you like or think you'll like. Having variation in your food is a great way of supplying your body with what it needs, instead of onesided things.
* To keep your weigth off, just keep excercising, but replace everything you drink normally during the day with water, and eat fruit instead of junk food if you need something inbetween.

You'll be best to have small meals spread throughout the day to keep yourself going, and at the same time keep the pressure off your stomach (it'll be working all day, but only needing to process small ammounts of food)
If you get alot of cramps or pain, drinking some milk or eating yoghurt might help to calm it all down (I had to do so to keep my stomach acid down)
But one question, is your current weigth a healthy one? Make sure of that with your doctor if you can, or even ask good friends wether they think you're looking ok, or scaring them.
Just build up slowly, and take your time to eat, even if it's only a little bit you're eating. If you want to talk something over more, just pm me.
and btw, Rydain might know some good sites for healthy food, she's a semi vegetarian who works out lots, so she knows all about nutrition and stuffs.

My mom says to keep it off but still eat things you like, 6 small meals a day are good, as long as you do a little exercise. This way you have a bit of food in you at all times, but you are never really really hungry, nor are you bloatingly full.

Grey, from not eating, your metabolism will be very poor. So if you ate a regular amount, probably like what you use to, it would shock your body. You have to gradually increase your food intake, if you want to keep the weight off, combined with exercise.

My lifestyle is very different than those mentioned, I have large, hardy 3-meal days with substantial snacking, and I rarely exercise. The funny thing is, I'm only about 3 pounds overweight, and it doesn't affect my health at all.

That would've described me pretty well about 4 years ago.
I had 1 big meal a day (dinner), and I was constantly eating/snacking the rest of the day. I was eating a huge amount of food every day, but it was a slow and steady "stream" of food.
And I was underweight!

Then I moved to Switzerland... couldn't find foods I liked to snack on, so I moved to 2.5 meals a day instead (I don't eat much for breakfast)... I'm eating less than half of what I used to per day... and I'm 10kg (~22lbs) overweight.

My exercise habits didn't really change at all, btw.

Eat. Don't worry about your appearances, just eat. You're 16, and most likely have extra stomach skin that you'll grow into. Trust someone who is going on 16, is 130, and eats a lot of pasta.

I HAVE been eating, trust me, I know how dangerous that was to my health, I'm trying to get my diet back on track. I'm just starting with small portions, decent meals each day. I make sure to eat a breakfast, lunch, and dinner, it's just hard to eat a lot of food because if I eat too much at one sitting I start to feel sick and too full for comfort. But I can do it, I'm still maintaining my current weight (in fact, I'm still losing weight thus far, but it's through working and eating healthily) and I've increased my diet since I talked about this.
