Was he cleaning the pool, placed a towel around his head to protect himself from the fumes of the pool cleaning chemicals, and ended up hurting himself with the equipment because he couldn't see?

I assume that's a yes, then.

The man jumped to escape a fire and missed the pool. He had the towel on his face because of the smoke.
