| Well since I only get to check up on this occasionally, I'll waste my guess. The man is stranded somewhere. Maybe evading capture. He's running out of food and water and he knows he doesn't have long left, and he comes to a water supply... but he sees the dead fish floating in it, because the water has been poisoned (maybe by the guys who are trying to capture him). So he shoots himself rather than die of thirst, poison, or giving himself up to capture. | |||

| OH! Long shot, but why not? He had cooked and eaten one of those japanese poisonous blowfish without knowing what kind of fish it was, but then someone (possibly a japanese sushi master with a funny mustache) told him that it was poisonous and that he would meet with a certain death in the near future and he thought it would be better to kill himself than to die from poison! |

| Simon, if the chef were a master, he would have prepared it correctly and the guy would be safe! I'll say that he sees the bloated dead fish floating in a river out of which he's been drinking, and he thus realizes that whatever poisoned the fish will soon kill him as well. |
